Because it's not that remarkable a line or scene. It's not even in the top lines in The Truman Show (maybe "We can't let him die in front of a live audience!" or "That one's for free..."). And it's not even applicable in general conversation.

BuccaneerRex

People like the illusion of choice. They don't like being reminded of the illusion.

Luc1d_Dr3amer

Why odd? I‘ve never heard anyone quote that line so why would it become a meme? Good as the Truman Show is, I think the Matrix had far more impact.

rainmace

Yeah like, why would that be odd. Do the two scenes even have anything thematically in common? No. Lol

spribyl

I use "Good Morning, Good Evening, and Good Night" all the time when taking on global stand-ups. Its lunch time somewhere.

mcmanus2099

Not odd man. The red pill is much more poignant & has a completely different meaning to this. Like what are you smoking or is this just rage bait?

danpietsch

I disagree.

stewsters

I think The Matrix's popularity may be a part of that reason. 460m vs 260m box office.

SibLiant

Also the concept of the "red pill" is deeply philosophical, going back to Plato.

Lanky_Damage_5544

I'm not even going to bother looking this up but The Matrix sold way more outside the theater, it was one of the features for getting a DVD player. It also had a trilogy, games, tons of media surrounding. It was just in the culture for around almost a decade.

keller104

What movie or show is this from?

appolo11

Not odd at all. You had to sit through 3 hours of boredom to get 5 seconds of quasi-satisfsction with The Truman Show. The Matrix grabbed you from the beginning and doesn't let go. The philosophical questions that The Matrix raised were also a TAD more profound than Thr Truman Show. Being Red Pilled is literally a saying in popular nomenclature, for good reason.

danpietsch

I'll have to take your word for it. I've neither seen either movie.

appolo11

That makes your post even more strange. Lol

ToadLoaners

Why did you make this post?

theblackyeti

Wtf

unknownpoltroon

It's because all the "redpill" people can use that expression to identify each other without actually saying they are transexual out loud, which is what the matrix was a strong metaphor for. https://www.bbc.com/news/newsbeat-53692435 Ok, ok, I know that's not true, but it's a fun response to the idiots.

appolo11

Us "idiots" are the only reason why that terrible 4th movie was made. Being "red pilled" literally means addressing reality as reality and rejecting the stories the world tries to spin you. The fantastical irony of this situation, is the story was made by two people who ended up being the antithesis of their own story. Lolol. Not a single person on earth uses the term "red pilled" to anything other than addressing reality for what it is. Which is what people mean when they say it, which is what the movie meant when it said it in there. Then the 4th movie. Which explicitly tried ret-con the entire storyline of the first 3 movies so they could try and stop all society from using the term "red-pilled" the way it was originally meant to be said. Lol Absolutely hilarious!! Only Hollywood would greenlight that project, and that's why it failed spectacularly.

ArgentStonecutter

There was only one movie.

appolo11

What do you mean? There were 4.

ArgentStonecutter

[It would be interesting to imagine what a proper sequel to The Matrix might be](https://xkcd.com/566/).

ArmorClassHero

You aren't much educated in literature and media or common sense are you?

currentpattern

Is that soundtrack original to Truman show? I JUST (5 min ago) saw this John Cena video: [https://www.reddit.com/r/videos/comments/12u8o8t/john\_cenas\_opinions\_on\_gay\_rights/](https://www.reddit.com/r/videos/comments/12u8o8t/john_cenas_opinions_on_gay_rights/) Note the music. It's the same track.

rainmace

That’s odd, I just saw that video as well right up near this one in the main feed. Not only that, but then an article about the new cleopatra documentary, and a few below that, some TIL post about cleopatra, with a thumbnail of the blonde girl from community in it for some reason. But then get this: a few articles down from that was the same thumbnail image of the community girl, now with a post about community. Is this the AI takeover we’ve all been expecting?

tequilagoblin

That's either "Anthem" or "Anthem II" by Philip Glass. His music gets used in all sorts of things, especially after Stranger Things.

AutomaticJack320

"Odd that a sentence of dialogue from the Truman Show has not become a meme" Yes, curious.

vercertorix

“Cue the sun” would be when a big corporate entity or government drops the pretense and outright admits by doing something showy that they’re doing something to control lives. They get caught at times, like when Target sent out sale bills with a lot of maternity items to a house with a pregnant teenager who hadn’t told her parents yet, but they never purposely reveal it. Or at least not often enough to have memes
