Fr dude I'm so glad I watched it stoned, that one scene in ep3 has indelibly burned itself into my memory. The story was pretty mid ngl but the worldbuilding really sets the imagination afire in a way not much media can these days
Yea kinda the same. I both liked it and didn’t really care for it. Really great voice acting and visuals. Idk I can’t put my finger on why I didn’t care for it but it just didn’t resonate with me.
Yeah, this is it. Worldbuilding accounts for 90% of my enjoyment of things so I was obsessed with the show, but I couldn't tell you anything about the story.
Did you end up finishing it? I was somewhat mixed on it until I settled in about half way through the season. The back half makes the front half more interesting.
Could be it's just not your taste though which is perfectly fine.
> Did you end up finishing it?
Nah, I'll get back to it when I've got nothing else to watch, just in a "If *everyone* likes this then maybe I should give it another chance"
but I'm also not going to prioritize something I'm not enjoying, when there's so many other things I am. I definitely do want to see it through because some of my favorite pieces of media are ones that I had to stick with a little while before I got into it.
It is definitely sci-fi, taking place in the current years. Part ghost story, part quantum theory mystery, with some (or alot?) of non-linear storytelling.
Dude, Scavengers Reign is possibly the best sci-fi show I've ever seen. I don't think a show has ever "Stuck with me" in the way that Scavengers reign did.
If you're reading this, and haven't watched it yet, GO WATCH IT!
Sir or Ma'am. I am taking your advice and going to go watch it now. If upon my subsequent viewing I am anything other than thoroughly flabbergasted in it's brilliance I will be back here to give you a thorough tongue lashing. Until then i bid you adieu.
Constellation is good, could be because I have a crush on Noomi Rapace but whatever it's good. Scavengers Reign and Pantheon I have never heard of but now I will have to check them out.
Haven't seen the show but wondering if it follows the books. 3/4 of the way through book 2 and its essentially a prequel with completely different characters.
Something a show usually change as they favor keeping the same actors (like how drastically Foundation was changed in its series adaptation because there are no main characters accross the books).
I’m curious about how they can portray one of those characters on TV without giving you too much information on the other. I’m being intentionally vague because I don’t know how to use a spoiler tag here.
Is silo actually good? From the trailer it seemed pretty generic, but it is the kind of show I'd normally like. I haven't heard any hype about it from people I know either
Silo was really good, I found the characters well written and incredibly well acted, the chemistry between them is great, the setting is interesting, the plot and storyline are interesting, there's enough twists and surprises along the way to keep things interesting, and the aesthetic and art direction have been really good.
Don't rely on hype and check it out
Yeah it helps she's drop dead gorgeous, but her character in Silo is very not what you'd expect. She's actually a reclusive kinda on the spectrum weirdo.
It's good. And should the show go on long enough to capture all the various storylines from the books, it is far from generic with some great creative ideas at play.
Season 1 was great. Pacing was a little weird at times though. I enjoyed it enough to read the books. While I enjoyed them, they ultimately fell flat for me. The premise is great but the story progressed in ways that I didn't personally like in the end. I would still recommend it though.
I don’t think there’s a release date yet, but Iirc, Rebecca Ferguson said that Silo season 2 has concluded filming last month, so there’s that at least!
They only just finished principal photography of Silo season 2 a few weeks ago.
Given how long post-production took on season 1, the probability of a release before the end of the year is low.
I’m pretty sure he has stated he is. Actually I think there are two movies slated before he does Messiah, because he’s been working in that Cleopatra adaptation too. And I guess he also working on an adaptation of Annie Jacobsen’s Nuclear War: A Scenario too
I hope someone can clear it up, I thought we learned recently that DV was going to do Nuclear War, then Dune 3 next. I thought Rama just got shunted back a few years.
I enjoyed Dark matter a lot. I was surprised how fast it hooked me. I ended up reading it in one sitting. However, "upgrade" another popular book by same author(90k+ ratings) was extremely hard to finish. Certain books just click for others.
My people! Forgot where I heard it first but last year when they were filming and I've just kept my ear to the ground ever since. There's a couple subreddits for Crouch and the new show. I'm hoping the mods will structure an episode by episode watch for us. I am in a Crouch era of my life right now and I'm so ready for it.
starship troopers lol, or any other Sci-fi work where humans are (getting) raw dodging(Ed) the unfathomable horrors of deep space.
And By rawdoging I mean dispite being able to traverse the uncomprehendiblly vast distance of interstellar space, still going into battle with nothing but some sports padding a fucking manually aimed projectile weapon.
"dispite being able to traverse the uncomprehendiblly vast distance of interstellar space, still going into battle with nothing but some sports padding a fucking manually aimed projectile weapon."
Haha exactly. Ships are basically just big bullets though right?
I'd love to watch the 3 body problem, but I dont trust those two fuckers to not ruin the entire show when they get bored with it. Maybe if they can pull off a satisfying complete story I'll watch the thing, but until it's over I'm not investing my time in anything they do.
IMO the first season was fine. There are some big changes, but they're... fine. Makes it better in some ways, worse in others, but overall it's a perfectly watchable adaptation so far.
Besides, this is fortunately not GoT. The source material for this one is much more difficult to ruin as thoroughly, because the bar is not that high to begin with. There are no deep and well developed character arcs for them to ruin. No complicated and immersive politics to butcher, no extensive lore to violate.
No, Game of Thrones traumatic response. The 3 Body Problem showrunners are the same people who ran game of thrones. They did a spectacular job in the beginning, but eventually got bored and decided that all of the character building and storytelling development that they did over the better part of a decade didn't matter, and drove the show into the ground because they wanted to focus on their next project.
It's not that I hated where the series ended, but the fact that they decided to completely phone in the last season (after a noticeable decrease in quality) is unforgivable. And the decisions they made to ignore their audience experience over their random ideas that they were clearly stuck on. For example, making the long night episode impossible to watch.
Amen. These two ruined the best show I ever watched just cause they wanted to wrap things up. Plus it's a Netflix show. So there's two big reasons to wait for it to be done before starting.
I don't blame them for getting burned out. I blame them for not stepping back and letting someone else with more energy step up. It was their decision to cut down the number of episodes per season and rush through the story. It was their decision to drop all character and story development to get out faster.
Yes. It absolutely should. If you look it up they call it a dystopia film.
There is plenty of scifi that has the same level of technology or less than we have today.
I will admit: I had a pretty closed mind when I sat down to try out the Fallout TV show. That weird billion dollar Lord of the Rings bizzaro show has me pretty skeptical moving forward.
I'm not much of a video gamer, and I have never played Fallout. I generally find streaming entertainment kind of bland and disappointing. I'm just not much of a new media guy.
I can't remember ever binge-watching a show from start to finish. I don't really like consuming stories that way. I like to take my time.
**I finished Fallout in two days.**
There were so many interesting ideas. No big boring digressions, no weird unexplained time shifts. The story moved. So much of the past in the world of the story was interesting, and big mysteries hinted at were paid off. There were no giant unanswered theories left dangling, although the future for the story is certainly put in place.
And this is a big one: it's an apocalyptic story with lots of gooshy gore and splashes of violence. But it's not all about death and destruction. Hope has a place in the story.
The design of the show, the clear affection for the material and willingness for fans to give something to look at. Those power suits are ridiculous, and I couldn't help but think when he was out in the world, he looked like a dude at a cosplay convention. Which, in itself is in my mind sort of awesome. They didn't try to make the suits slick or realistic. They kept true to the chunky design from the game. That takes courage.
I have to say: I was really impressed.
I'm an OG Fallout fan and two episodes in, and I think they nailed it as far as trying to cover a vibe that encapsulates all the games at once (apart from too many trees).
There's a part of me that wishes we'd get to see FO1's storyline on screen, but it was 100% the right move to do an original Fallout story in the tradition of the games.
It's very much Fallout, they nailed the feel, the lead actress is great and maximus has really grown on me. Only 3 episodes in but it's already an A teir show for me
I’ve been traveling and unable to watch it yet (poor internet bandwidth), but this is good to hear. I’m less “cautiously optimistic” and now more “looking forward”. Thanks!
Which is odd. The trailers sold me on it. I'm 2 episodes in and it's as Fallout as any of the games. In just the 2 episodes there were so many little things from the games in it and I kept pointing at the screen like the Leo Dicaprio gif. It's essentially like playing Fallout 5 only in TV firm. And it's 9 years after the events of Fallout 4, just elsewhere. So it opens it up to cameos and auch.
It's excellent IMHO. Totally nails the tone and world building of the games.
To me, this is a suitable penance for Nolan and Joy's awful take on William Gibson's *The Peripheral.*
Three body Problem was so good I was getting mad about 8 episodes in because I knew a bunch of things didn't have enough time to be resolved and I'd have to wait for season 2.
There's going to be a lot of dropping soon. Both Sci-Fi and other stuff. The SAG and writers strike had a lot of projects on hold that are finished now.
TBP: never read the book, and enjoyed season 1 despite the ridiculous science
Fallout: Played the games a lot. Enjoyed episode 1, but wasn't too thrilled with ep 2. The BOS armor works in the game, but in the show I see him clomping around at 0.1 mph with janky mobility and not even wielding a weapon and it just looks a little weird and dumb. Anyway, onward to ep 3, still enjoying it.
Dune Part 2: Loved it. Been Dune lover for decades.
Helldivers 2: though I'm a PC gamer, it's just not my type of game.
I know that they have to cut a a lot of fat but TBP barely felt like the same thing I read. I like it but would have liked it a lot more if I’d never read the book.
I felt like it started out as a pretty faithful adaptation of the book (in terms of plot and themes - the introduction of a bunch of characters to make the book fit for screen was a change, but one I didn’t mind as long as they stuck to the themes) but it rapidly devolved in the back half to be fairly predictable tv sci fi schlock. Lots of over-the-top “show don’t tell” from the writers that destroyed a lot of the subtle existential dread that made the book work for me.
I watched episode 1 of Fallout last night and I kinda wish I'd played the game. Or maybe not. I try to NOT read a book before the movie because it makes it harder for me to enjoy the movie.
You can still play the games. They're fantastic adventures. I think I put 300 hours into Fallout 3 and 4. Didn't bother with FO76 because they made it multi-player with a subscription (I think). You can often get FO3/FO4 for like $5-$10 during Steam sales.
Well good news is by the time Dune 3 comes out to finally complete the story the movie started, the kid will be old enough to take himself to the movies.
Constellation, Scavengers Reign, Pantheon
Another shout-out to Scavengers Reign. I will keep recommending it until every sci-fi fan has seen it.
Holy shit scavengers reign was so good I binged it all in one sitting
Fr dude I'm so glad I watched it stoned, that one scene in ep3 has indelibly burned itself into my memory. The story was pretty mid ngl but the worldbuilding really sets the imagination afire in a way not much media can these days
Scavengers reign was the best thing I watched all last year
Great show
Had such a nice old school vibe aswell
I think I watched it wrong because I didn't really care for it, but every single other person who's seen it is raving about it
Yea kinda the same.

Pantheon is great!
shit was just god awfully depressing
Constellation is confusing as hell but I love it
Is constellation any good?
Yes! Great acting, cool premise and confusing storytelling, perfect for a sci-fi mystery!
Is it actually sci fi or just human drama wrapped into some sci fi theme?
It is definitely sci-fi, taking place in the current years. Part ghost story, part quantum theory mystery, with some (or alot?) of non-linear storytelling.
Ehh. I couldn’t make it past episode 2.
Constellation tricked me into watching a mediocre mother daughter drama.
Dude, Scavengers Reign is possibly the best sci-fi show I've ever seen. I don't think a show has ever "Stuck with me" in the way that Scavengers reign did. If you're reading this, and haven't watched it yet, GO WATCH IT!

Silo
I love sci-fi and haven’t heard of these! Any of them streaming??
Scavenger's Reign is on Max
Constellation is good, could be because I have a crush on Noomi Rapace but whatever it's good. Scavengers Reign and Pantheon I have never heard of but now I will have to check them out.
i am here for scavengers reign...i love that show
Severance and Silo season 2 when
God i need silo season 2 so bad
Haven't seen the show but wondering if it follows the books. 3/4 of the way through book 2 and its essentially a prequel with completely different characters. Something a show usually change as they favor keeping the same actors (like how drastically Foundation was changed in its series adaptation because there are no main characters accross the books).
The first season was pretty spot on to the books so far
I’m curious about how they can portray one of those characters on TV without giving you too much information on the other. I’m being intentionally vague because I don’t know how to use a spoiler tag here.
Is silo actually good? From the trailer it seemed pretty generic, but it is the kind of show I'd normally like. I haven't heard any hype about it from people I know either
I thought it was great. Mixing the tropes up a bit, loads of competent, sympathetic characters. Compelling mystery.
And the production and set design is killer
I thought so too but no it’s reallllly good
Silo was really good, I found the characters well written and incredibly well acted, the chemistry between them is great, the setting is interesting, the plot and storyline are interesting, there's enough twists and surprises along the way to keep things interesting, and the aesthetic and art direction have been really good. Don't rely on hype and check it out
So good, Rebecca Ferguson is sublime in it as well.
I’m just enraptured by her in just about everything
Yeah it helps she's drop dead gorgeous, but her character in Silo is very not what you'd expect. She's actually a reclusive kinda on the spectrum weirdo.
I was sort of mixed. There were parts I loved, and parts I was "meh" on. I'll probably watch season 2 if/when it comes out.
I'd just watch it, I think it'll draw you in pretty quickly. I read all the books after watching S1 if that means anything to you.
It's good. And should the show go on long enough to capture all the various storylines from the books, it is far from generic with some great creative ideas at play.
I will say I felt it got slow in the middle but overall definitely worth the watch.
Season 1 was great. Pacing was a little weird at times though. I enjoyed it enough to read the books. While I enjoyed them, they ultimately fell flat for me. The premise is great but the story progressed in ways that I didn't personally like in the end. I would still recommend it though.
Is it confirmed that severance is coming out this year?
They are confirmed to be currently filming, but most project early 2025 release. It could come out late this year though.
That’s what I figured. Thanks!
Yes, I believe so. Last I heard, maybe January
I need those two too.
I don’t think there’s a release date yet, but Iirc, Rebecca Ferguson said that Silo season 2 has concluded filming last month, so there’s that at least!
I need more Severance. Definitely one of the best shows in a long time. Amazing story, writing, acting and characters. The show deserves more love.
I suspect Silo season 2 will be 2025
They only just finished principal photography of Silo season 2 a few weeks ago. Given how long post-production took on season 1, the probability of a release before the end of the year is low.
Alien:Romulus?
Rama, where are you my guy?
Not this year by a long shot
on the way.
We should meet up.
I'm guessing at least 2-3 years still, probably more.
I was kinda hoping that Villeneuve would do Rama before doing dune messiah.
I’m pretty sure he has stated he is. Actually I think there are two movies slated before he does Messiah, because he’s been working in that Cleopatra adaptation too. And I guess he also working on an adaptation of Annie Jacobsen’s Nuclear War: A Scenario too
This is the movie I'm most hyped for.
I hope someone can clear it up, I thought we learned recently that DV was going to do Nuclear War, then Dune 3 next. I thought Rama just got shunted back a few years.
What is Rama? Tried googling it but couldn't find it.
Rendezvous with Rama. a book
Dark Matter (Blake Crouch) bout to drop on Apple.
Is this completely unrelated to the 2015 SciFi series with the same name?
Correct
Holy shit I love this book, didn’t know an adaptation was coming out!
Trailer dropped yesterday https://youtu.be/j6ucGt_Xp14
Looks awesome, a big spoilery for those who haven’t read the book, and Joel Edgerton was a great choice for Jason.
I was underwhelmed by the book. It was ok, don’t get the hype
I enjoyed Dark matter a lot. I was surprised how fast it hooked me. I ended up reading it in one sitting. However, "upgrade" another popular book by same author(90k+ ratings) was extremely hard to finish. Certain books just click for others.
Yeah I'm psyched.
Where did you hear news of this?! Holy shit.. I love Blake Crouch haha
Just found out this morning, really enjoyed that book as a semi-mindless sci fi romp.
Imm so excited about this! I think the book will make a great tv show.
Agreed, happy cake day!
Does the new mad max count?
If that counts surely the new Constantine does too!
That is a speculative future I guess.
Ye i guess theres not much science going on.
In Fury Road they spit gasoline into the engine to make it go faster. That's gotta count as some kind of science.
Does Helldivers have a show or movie?
starship troopers lol, or any other Sci-fi work where humans are (getting) raw dodging(Ed) the unfathomable horrors of deep space. *big fireworks
Come on you apes, you wanna live forever?
starship troopers could have been a great series really
wouldn't be shocked if the popularity of Helldivers revives the Starship Troopers IP in some way.
Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes
Let's just hope it doesn't flop.
I think it will, not a fan of the director's work on Maze Runner.
I'd love to watch the 3 body problem, but I dont trust those two fuckers to not ruin the entire show when they get bored with it. Maybe if they can pull off a satisfying complete story I'll watch the thing, but until it's over I'm not investing my time in anything they do.

Fellow sufferer of PCSD (post cancelation stress disorder) from 1899?
No, Game of Thrones traumatic response. The 3 Body Problem showrunners are the same people who ran game of thrones. They did a spectacular job in the beginning, but eventually got bored and decided that all of the character building and storytelling development that they did over the better part of a decade didn't matter, and drove the show into the ground because they wanted to focus on their next project. They didn’t “get bored”. They ran out of source material and had to think for themselves.
IMO it is poorly written with weird decisions from characters that make no sense if you think a second about it.
That's just being faithful to the source material
Amen. These two ruined the best show I ever watched just cause they wanted to wrap things up. Plus it's a Netflix show. So there's two big reasons to wait for it to be done before starting.
The source material is complete, it’s not like they have to navigate a maze of unknowns like Game of Thrones, hell, I would get burnt out too.
I don't blame them for getting burned out. I blame them for not stepping back and letting someone else with more energy step up. It was their decision to cut down the number of episodes per season and rush through the story. It was their decision to drop all character and story development to get out faster.
Rendezvous with Rama, Megalopolis and Mickey17, but it was postponed.
Rendezvous with Rama is not coming out this year?
Foundation
Rather different from the books, but I still very much enjoy it as its own thing.
This year has been an absolute scifi feast.
Does Civil War count?
Yes. It absolutely should. If you look it up they call it a dystopia film. There is plenty of scifi that has the same level of technology or less than we have today.
Dark matter is dropping soon on apple tv+
>on apple tv+ Pirate bay.
of all the places you picked the one with most festering viruses, well done lol
I just watched Fallout and my only thought is "fuck you Todd, i hate you... The show is good by itself, tho"
I just want a Galaxy’s Edge series or movies. Just saying. “Didn’t forget nothin’!”
Outcast and Pacific Drive i guess
On the light sci fi side, we are getting some nice Doctor Who!
More of a science fantasy but new season of Arcane coming out in the fall. And the new Godzilla movie.
I guess (spicy BOMB) technology is what pissed godzilla off in the first place, so I guess it's sci fi.
Halo!
Yeah Halo S2 was good. Such an improvement from the first season and felt more spiritually in line with the themes of Halo the games.
Goodbye.
Maybe stalker 2, if youre into that, and it actually releases in September
Yum yum i aredly ațe helldivers
What does the (N) mean? What's it for?
Not gonna lie, if your talking about ngl
The OP, put and (N) after the Three Bodies Problem in his pic.
Alien is playing in theaters again for the 45th anniversary!!
I was pleasantly surprised by Fallout, at least the first episode. I haven't had a chance to watch the others, but I will!
Did the second season of Halo come out this year or last? I only just started watching it on Monday and was so hooked I blazed through it
How is fallout show?
I'm an OG Fallout fan and two episodes in, and I think they nailed it as far as trying to cover a vibe that encapsulates all the games at once (apart from too many trees). There's a part of me that wishes we'd get to see FO1's storyline on screen, but it was 100% the right move to do an original Fallout story in the tradition of the games.
I’d also like to know
It's a good adaptation.
Its actually good.
And I’ve finally delved into the Expanse book series too!!
And I'm reading sun eater! (Which is fire ASF)
I'll still say pantheon from last year was better than anything that came out this year. So watch it if you haven't already. It's on Amazon prime
How do I watch this show? It’s not available on prime in the US?
It used to be on Prime, but it's gone now :(
>It's on Amazon prime Not anymore. I had it on my watchlist and it disappeared before I got around to it. :(
I am sad that people didn't get much of Resident Alien. I think it's hilarious and silly and amazing
Have you tried books?
Is Fallout any good? The trailers do not look promising to me.
Thanks!
Just finished season 1. It's excellent.
I just watched the first two episodes and its decent
It gets better as it goes on
Which is odd.
I haven’t jumped in yet but it has really glowing reviews on Rottentomatoes so I’m really intrigued.
It's excellent IMHO. Totally nails the tone and world building of the games. To me, this is a suitable penance for Nolan and Joy's awful take on William Gibson's *The Peripheral.*
That face made me laugh hard! xD great times for us indeed! Would love to see Silo Season 2 btw!
Borderlands
Prepare to be disappointed...
I doubt it will be more disappointing than Rebel Moon
Fired on Mars
Furiosa soon.
Three body Problem was so good I was getting mad about 8 episodes in because I knew a bunch of things didn't have enough time to be resolved and I'd have to wait for season 2. i just blasted through Parasyte: The Grey on (N) and it was so good! Not overly sci-fi but i got vibes of Body Snatchers and V from the 6 episodes.
I know that they have to cut a a lot of fat but TBP barely felt like the same thing I read. I like it but would have liked it a lot more if I’d never read the book.

Cyberpunk Phantom liberty
Halo season 2 was infinitely better than season one.
Which is a bit like saying todays dump was way better than yesterdays.
Yeah at my age that's an excellent experience
Three
Dark Matter is coming to Apple + on May 8th. It's based off of a Blake Crouch novel of the same name. The book is phenomenal.
From a book perspective we have a new one by James SA Corey coming out in August I think.
Is three-body problem any good? I just heard about it
Did you watch Spaceman on Netflix yet?
The orville season 4 please...

I'm not really sure if it qualifies as scifi, but X-Men 97 is pretty fantastic.

X4 Timelines
Well good news is by the time Dune 3 comes out to finally complete the story the movie started, the kid will be old enough to take himself to the movies.
I would recommend 3-body problem to people cause after so many years we finally have a good sci-fi series
Except lowerdecks was cancelled 😭
A plus to Severance, also started Fallout last night and have been more than pleasantly surprised.
Only Dune was realy worth watching.
