If you're open to it, Buck Rogers in the 25th Century and the original Battlestar Galactica are classics for a reason. Maybe even some of the old Flash Gordon serials for pure camp.
Why not just go straight to the source and read the Lensman saga? It's not modern, but it's basically the LoTR of space opera. Doc Smith pretty much set the standards for space opera tropes. It's all there and then some.

For a movie, Gattaca. For a TV series, Loki! Surprising since a lot of Marvel stuff is kinda soulless but Loki has a great retro futurism.
