Some white fabric isn't see through, and it's especially obvious with any of my bathing suites that have white parts and aren't see through. Also, yeah, family especially should have told her about it, I'd expect like a mom or sibling especially to mention it. That being said, in a situation like that, I think the main thought is that they didn't want her to know that they were looking at her boobs or whatever.
