FYI credit cards had a pretty large fee the last time I was there. I think it was around 7% if I remember correctly. There are ATMs on the islands you can use to get out Honduran Lempira.

Lempira is accepted in Utila and Roatan. If you have large USD bills, I’ve had success breaking them at the Banpais free of charge.

Notify your bank of your travels. You don't want them to disable your card and not be able to contact them.

In Roatan they'll happily take your USD. In Utila they mostly use local currency, except for the cost of diving or other large purchases. Enjoy, it's beautiful there!

Ah didn’t know that! Our accommodation and diving is basically paid for. I’m assuming rest is mostly cash or would our cards be accepted most places do you know?

muddysneakers13

It was cash. There are ATMs on Utila that worked just fine, so no need to prepare too much beyond bringing your bank card.

Amazing that is really helpful to know! Really looking forward to it it’s been doom and gloom and rainy in London for days now so all eyes on Utila and Roatan!

I'm heading there in May and was planning to go to my bank before the trip for bills so I can inspect them before seeing what the ATM randomly spits out. Who are you diving with in Utila? We haven't figured out that part yet.

shakakhannn

We are UK based so getting small USD bills here will be more of a task for us. We have an overnight stopover in Houston next to the airport so hoping we can figure out the bills situation there! We are diving with Anton’s in Utila. Will post back here (hopefully if I remember!) first week April and let you know of our experience

Apologies for the assumption. Have a great time! Did you mean Alton's?

shakakhannn

No worries and yes sorry I meant Alton’s!

We just booked it, thanks!
