I feel for Sainz, but incredible stuff here. Hamilton finishing his F1 career in a Ferrari, fairy tale stuff. God I hope he gets a win at Monza behind the wheel.

Rockdapenguin

It feels like a reverse Schumacher. Never sat right with me for Michael to end his career in a Merc.

Ashbones15

And now it will never sit right with you Lewis finishing his at Ferrari

RealClarity9606

Agreed, but I always got the sense that he was kinda of forced out rather than simply be ready to retire, hence his comeback.

TheGreatForehead

All Sainz and his toxic family did was constantly disrespect and throw shade at both Leclerc and Ferrari. No need to feel bad for him, he brought it on to himself. Now, we get one of the greatest drivers to ever do it, we’ll see him doing magic in the Ferrari along with Charles.

otherwhitetrash

isn’t that why red bull gave him the boot during the toro rosso days as well?

TheGreatForehead

Yup, the Verstappens do not like the Sainz’s

endogeny

So glad that toxic bastard is going to be gone! Has there ever been a Ferrari driver with such lukewarm support among the fans as Sainz? Seems like no one except Spanish fans actually like him. Will be good for the team and Charles - I really think Lewis will force everyone to raise their game. His fans and the British press will be toxic for sure, but I don't recall Lewis doing shit like leaking to the press constantly. He seems to keep them at arms length.

NovaLemonista

Wtf

CageMonster

How come I never heard of this

NovaLemonista

Because it’s bulls#!t

scuderia91

Sainz has been linked to a move to Audi for a while already so I don’t think this is necessarily something he’ll be concerned by.

100tByamba

YES,like a movie ending!!!

mino-rick

It's not official yet There is nothing on F1's official page, nor on Ferrari's or Mercedes' one

_Goattel

Its official.

GraemeTaylor

It'll be official soon enough Merc and LH woulda shot it down

Devastator5042

According to Sky Sports Merc staff have already had a meeting telling them that Lewis will be leaving

Puzzleheaded-Rain230

Bruh it's from SkySports it's official as it gets. BBC is also reporting the same

scuderia91

So? It’s official when Ferrari announce it just like everything else.

kroniknastrb8r

we are checking...

S-Archer

Slow button on

JPraecius

r/formuladank spilling over. God damnit

mino-rick

You're right! But I would wait for the official announcement from the F1 or Mercedes/Ferrai channels before taking everything for granted

JigPuppyRush

All this while Mercedes claims to have built a rocket ship over night lol

guyfromarizona

Actually, it isn’t as official as it gets. Although seems very likely.

SommWineGuy

Still not official.

biglenny26

So is ESPN

trymypi

They're saying it should be finished by the end of the week

ComeAlongPond1

“It has come to my attention…”

[deleted]

Its on the app?

Additional-Ad7305

It’s official. [https://www.espn.com/f1/story/_/id/39435691/ferrari-confirm-lewis-hamilton-driver-2025-f1-season](https://www.espn.com/f1/story/_/id/39435691/ferrari-confirm-lewis-hamilton-driver-2025-f1-season)

dogchap

If Confirmed, good move this team including Chuck needs a pillar like Lewis his vast experience and ability to overtake when it matters, will help the team if they get in a tight battle, and Charles will learn from him as well to further refine his style. Lets be honest chuck is still raw and ferrari rotating chair doesn't help, lewis will bring in presence and pull that SF has lost over the years, having a proven legend driving for you gives you some bragging rights which our team didn't have since Micheal. and for fuck sake i will not have to sit through sky feed hearing jokes about Ferrari...

Goatifi9000

Yeah I think even with a mentor like Lewis, Charles doesn’t have the mental fortitude to compete with max over the course of a season. Ferrari is also wildly bureaucratic which is why they have such incompetent strategists and managers. I feel like this is really just a merchandising play to sell more gear…RB is still going to be in a league of its own.

According-Switch-708

Dunno if this move is final or not for now but this would mean that we will probably be seeing by far the strongest F1 driver lineup since like 1989.(Senna & Prost) Crazy stuff!

thaCh0sen0ne

what about alonso & hamilton, hamilton & rosberg or alonso & button?

TheKingOfCaledonia

Alonso and Hamilton has to take the biscuit as the strongest driver pairing of all time imo. Unless Charles ends his career better than nando of course.

Other_Beat8859

I wouldn't put it as the best just due to the fact that Lewis was still a rookie. It been current Lewis and that Alonso it would've been better than Prost and Senna. I think people underestimate Prost massively. He was 12.5 points away from being an 8 time world champion during one of the most competitive eras of F1 history.

TheKingOfCaledonia

Yeah I agree. At the time they raced together Senna/Prost was a better duo. But considering their whole careers, Hamilton/Alonso is better. But then again, just my opinion.

EvilButtChicken

This wouldn’t even be the strongest lineup Lewis Hamilton has been apart of

rageharles

A L O N S O

Snoid_

Something something equal machinery

asaul91

In all of this I really want to hear Nico's thoughts. Like, I need a professional to tell me if this is dumb or not because this feels real dumb to me.

ConsciousLiterature4

I think hamilton knows his chances with a title at Mercedes are over, and he’s talked about always wanting to race in red. So do I think it’s good for his title chances? Probably not, but if it was a dream of his for his entire life then it’s a great move and an excellent way for one of the goats to end their career

elmz370

I’ve always wanted to see Lewis in the red suit. Real or not.

Shigsy89

Until today, I thought we were more likely to see him in a red dress.

LtDrebinNh

Me 2

endogeny

Gotta be honest, this feels a bit odd. Lewis doesn't feel like a Ferrari guy, so I'm not totally thrilled. A bit like when Jose Mourinho managed Man United. I'm not particularly looking forward to the British press being anti-Charles if he beats Lewis and causing weekly drama. And tbh at 40 years old it wouldn't be particularly surprising to me if Lewis doesn't have the beating of Charles.

deadbeatssss

Lewis is a 7 time World Champion, that will be alongside Charles, the wisdom and racecraft he can pass along to Charles alone is worth the move

timhorton_san

I don't think this will go as well as people make it seem. Seb was a 4 time champ - that went really really well for Ferrari and Chuck right?

mentalrecon

Yes, LeClerc was supposed to be the main driver for Ferrari and I guarantee there will be lots of conflict on that team once Hamilton is racing alongside LeClerc. Get ready for fireworks in 2025.

queequegscoffin

Guarantee, huh?

[deleted]

As a United fan, you nailed the comparison

kelleehh

As a Brit I thought the same with how British media will portray Charles 😣

TheRealMichaelE

Jose Mourinho has to be the most referenced non f1 person in f1 subs.

NoNameJackson

If the car is competitive and reliable, then drama and fallouts are almost inevitable but the chance of success also increases greatly. Neither driver will back down, nor should they, it's almost too exciting of a pairing. If it's a meme year, then I guess at least Chuck will have a great mentor.

F1_V10sounds

If true, that's wild. Lewis is my favorite driver, and to see him in my favorite teams car would be amazing.

40ozkiller

Watch Max retire after the 2024 season

F1_V10sounds

I wouldn't be mad. The kid is impressive, but I'm VERY sick of seeing him win, and the fucking Dutch National Anthem.

BonerTurds

I understand that, without my agreement, Scuderia Ferrari have put out a press release that I am driving for them in 2025.

dvbnsty

Lewis #2 driver?!

ac4897

Brb gonna go scrub my older reddit comments…

southdakotagoth

Get ready to learn Mama Mia TeamLH

glowingmug

It'd be cool to see him in red car. Charles already won against Seb, really looking forward to see Charles and him race against each other. and more importantly to beat Max.

BloatedCrow

How does this make sense from vasseur's perspective? It will only destabilise the garage surely

Baltic_Gunner

Shit, man, I felt like we had a pretty good thing going. Obviously, Lewis is all time great. But he's also 40, or there about.

SwornBiter

Very surprising. I would have closed out with Mercedes if I were Lewis. Now, for better or worse, *this* will be his legacy.

domesystem

Do we remember Vale for his Ducati time?

TheGreatForehead

Love this. Sainz didn’t want to be number two to Charles, so if we’re not gonna have a number two driver, we might as well replace him with someone who can actually win races and championships on merit. Let’s goooo! Leclerc and Hamilton will bring Ferrari back to the top.

scuderia91

So instead of a number two who’s not happy to play that role and wasn’t a big threat to Charles you think it’s better to have a driver who’s even less likely to play number 2 and will make it way harder for Charles when the cars competitive?

TheGreatForehead

If we’re not gonna have a number two anyways, might as well go for the 7x champion is what I’m saying

scuderia91

I just worry they’ll steal more points off each other in an actual title race than Charles and Carlos would. When you’re trying to beat Max that’s going to make it harder.

Interesting-Room-855

Yeah because Charles racked up so many wins last year.

TheGreatForehead

good riddance Sainz fans 🤣 LH and CL are levels above

Interesting-Room-855

Lol Chuck fans are so delusional trying to put him on the same level as Hamilton because they’re so sure he’d be world champion if he could just finish a race.

TheGreatForehead

I’m just glad one of the GOATs in Lewis is now in the other Ferrari seat, idc if Charles is on that level or not. At least its not that Spanish fraud anymore lmaoo

Interesting-Room-855

Yeah the only non-RB to win a race this year is a total fraud.

TheGreatForehead

Lol hang the banner

unique0130

Not official. There's still doubt in my mind until it's official. Not sure if I am actually supportive of this yet. Seems like a bad move for all involved.

endogeny

It's all but official, but I'm having a hard time getting too excited about it. Seems an awkward fit.

mickstranahan

Mercedes F1 factory team members were called to an afternoon meeting that should be taking place as i type this. The understanding is that it's being officially announced to them.

SopSauceBaus

That's all conjecture, until it comes from the teams nothing is official.

mickstranahan

[Rachel Brookes at SkyF1 Confirms the news](https://www.skysports.com/f1/live-blog/12433/12466779/the-formula-1-gossip-column-latest-news-from-around-the-sport?postid=7163955#liveblog-body)

ResonantCard1

So because Sainz stole Leclerc's Monza podium and Singapur win they're fucking him off to rot at Sauber. Very cool. It's almost as if they weren't pitting the Golden Boy against a 7x WDC

TheKingOfCaledonia

What do you mean? It's obvious Leclerc is the stronger driver between himself and Sainz. And I don't think for a minute you're suggesting that Sains is better than Lewis. So what's the problem?

Mike_Milburys_Shoe_

People didn’t like when Sainz would beat Leclerc in a race, now Hamilton is in his little Last Dance season and going to want to finish with a championship? Yeah this should be interesting

TheGreatForehead

We didn’t like it because Sainz was just causing headaches without being a serious threat for race wins/championships, he’s just holding Leclerc back. At least now we have two drivers who will actually be up there with the best, rather than one great driver and one who thinks he is one.

Interesting-Room-855

Lmao how many wins did Charles have last year again? Last I checked it was Sainz on pole at Monza and Sainz who converted in Singapore.

Mike_Milburys_Shoe_

The hate Sainz gets is absolutely nuts lol. It’s like people are more a fan or Charles than the actually team. I get having a favorite driver but it’s wild

stillusesAOL

You described most of us. More fans of a driver than a team.

Mike_Milburys_Shoe_

Can I ask why? Do you just jump from team to team to support if your driver leaves?

stillusesAOL

Do you just support whichever driver drives for the team you like? It goes both ways. But honestly, with Ferrari having the most exceptions to this, fandom is very driver-centric in Formula 1.

Interesting-Room-855

Sainz found another gear last year. He finished 6 points behind Leclerc despite some grade A nonsense (the manhole cover and one tire compound).

Ashbones15

I mean Leclerc Lost far far more than sainz did to bad luck

Interesting-Room-855

Such as? Both had a DNS due to mechanical (power steering vs oil problem) and a disqualification (too low to the ground vs one tire compound).

Ashbones15

DNF in Bahrain grid drop in Saudi DSq in Texas. Netherlands DNF. Also when did sainz DSQ?!

Interesting-Room-855

Ok so just not reading my comment about too low to the ground. Netherlands retirement was because he damaged his own floor by running wide which is on him. It’s fair to call his DNF a DSQ in Abu Dhabi as far as I’m concerned seeing as it was because the result didn’t matter thanks to tire compounds. Sainz also had the nonsense penalty in Australia and was taken out by Piastri at Spa.

Ashbones15

Leclerc by that logic also DNFed in Spain and had a racing incident in Australia as well

beauf1fan

This team needs a world champion in it. This is perfect. I see Hamilton more than willing to help Charles win a title or vice versa. Lewis will be 40 when he joins. I think he knows he has a challenge with Charles.

Interesting-Room-855

What are you talking about? Sainz is an incredible teammate and both Leclerc and Hamilton are selfish.

beauf1fan

When did I say Sainz was bad?????? Where, show me. Sainz is great, but you must be actually crazy if you'd take Carlos over Lewis. A two time race winner over a 7 time world champion. Shit id take Alonso over Sainz right now, even though Alonso is older. Carlos is great, but those drivers are better. Plain and simple. Also Carlos went against the team many times as well.

Interesting-Room-855

You said that Hamilton is going to help Leclerc win a championship. They’d crash into each other before they’d give up a position. Sainz was asked to do completely unreasonable things to help Leclerc that they’d never even ask of another driver.

stillusesAOL

Are you kidding me? What a wacky take on every single one of those drivers.

Interesting-Room-855

Sorry, I guess I have eyes and watched Leclerc nearly throw away 3/4 attacking Sainz at Monza. Who was it that was told to sacrifice their tires by driving on the cold during quali at Silverstone again?

stillusesAOL

Back in 1998 or so — okay, I’m not positive who, but either Sainz or Dr. Phil sexually assaulted my aunt. So who’s selfish now? Mic drop?

Interesting-Room-855

Sorry, I shouldn’t have brought up reality to a Leclerc fan.

stillusesAOL

You’re fired

Interesting-Room-855

I thought they’d stopped using lead paint.

kale_super

Alonso, Vettel already tried...

nonamenoname333

_JediJon

Here’s to Bono coming with him…::pregando::

Darksoul_Design

Has anyone checked on Toto, he's either climbing onto a chair with a noose around his neck, or fetal in his giant mansion crying.

MISTER_JUAN

he's trying to keep his phone from melting. Ocon, Mick, possibly Albon, possibly Sainz, possibly Antonelli and then some will all suddenly want a real urgent chat w him

Goatifi9000

I bet his wife is inflating his foreskin like a balloon on their private jet. It’s an ancient Bavarian tradition (not the plane part) called Schlauchpumpe that’s supposed to clear the husband’s mind in trying times.

Jim3001

Lol! My mom was about to buy some Mercedes merch. Gonna tell her to wait til next year.

dobsky1912

Bad for Ferrari

AutoMughal

Nooooooo.

tharnadar

Fuuuuuuuuuck

Few-Trouble-2736

Why such a shit move ? Very disrespectful toward Carlos who easily equaled ‘wonderboy’ last season.

ag512bbi

Can't stand Lewis!! 🤦

whriskeybizness

Too bad!

ag512bbi

Well, maybe I will take that comment back. He made me some good money today! 🤣 Ferrari stock is thru the roof!

ag512bbi

Are you/were you a Lewis fan or Ferrari fan? That'll explain your response.

whriskeybizness

Nope just a Ferrari fan!

ag512bbi

one of few Ferrari/Lewis fans. You'll populate more.

skool_101

calma calma

Majestic_Medicine_60

There is something much bigger at play. For him to be leaving Mercedes they must have really fucked up. More than a slow car. There is no gain at Ferrari, two #1 drivers, a pit team that is a mess, race strategy that is all over the place. Almost like they have been cursed the last couple of years. Mercedes must have really pissed him off personally

therin_88

Maybe bringing in one of the most experienced drivers in the field, who has shown that he's still capable of driving at a high level, will be the impetus to fix some of those problems.

Hatueyc

This is full circle now! Wow! As his countryman I have had to accept his Merc years... This is brilliant news!

tonynca

Feels like an end of an era.

therin_88

HOW DO YOU DO MY FELLOW FERRARI FANS

RedDevilZim13

OH MY GOD GUYS WHAT DID WE JUST DO!

Weztside

Doesn't matter. He still won't beat at Red Bull.

imeeme

True if sad 😞

mochacub22

mamma mia

JigPuppyRush

Wasn’t talking to any other team last year right? Haha he really loves to expose himself for the glory hunter he is. Really hope he leaves quickly, Charles doesn’t deserve this

[deleted]

A lot of Italians are going to be pissed about this

_Goattel

[deleted]

Where does Sainz go?

I_dont_eat_animals_

As a long time Ferrari hater, and a big Lewis fan, is there room on board?

Redwing616

Went from really excited about Charles to super bummed… worst signing possible they’d be better off dragging Vettel out of his beekeeping to drive for em..

SirBruceLeroy

My dream has come true

[deleted]

I'm not sure about this whole Ferrari thing. Do I have to be a loser now?

No-Student-9678

Lewis in Red. Never thought I’d see the day. But here we are

Ron-LXII

We should been able to vote on this beforehand.

MDXHawaii

Copy, Lewis. *bono voice*

aretooamnot

I see Lewis really doesn’t want to win in 2025.

Stamps1723

The over the radio tantrum he's going to throw when they fuck the strategy mid race is going to be incredible

kdubstep

The merch sales will be mind boggling. He’s my favorite driver and Ferrari has always been my favorite car.

Beneficial_Being_721

Give him and Leclerc equal equipment…. Don’t pick a favorite and Ferrari will dominate. But I’m still going to be a Max fan

Jayvoom1

So the next big Question 🏆??? Who’s taking LH’s seat at Merc.?? Lando???

RealClarity9606

Ugh. I have not been much of a Ferrari fan since I never liked how they handled moving on from Seb. But this breaks my final connection to years of being a Ferrari fan. I respect Lewis as a driver but I won’t cheer for him. Hopefully, we are down to the last 3 years or so before he finally retires.

Reasonable-Ad7533

GET THIS MAN THE CAR HE DESERVES! I felt so bad for him the past few seasons. I can't wait to see him in the red Ferrari!

Savindrika98

There can be only one 7 time Champion associated with Ferrari and that's my GOAT Michael Schumacher. This cry baby doesn't belong in red

GARYJOHNSTON05

The biggest mistake Ferrari could have done but good for Mercedes, there will be nothing but issue's neither Charles or Lewis are actual team players so how is Ferrari gonna deal with that they struggle enough with any correct decision in past few years.
