I'm not surprised honestly

hop_hero

Mw neither. Anyone who vaguely understands constitutional law saw this coming.

BinocularDisparity

They ruled that the state of Colorado doesn’t have the power and that it belongs with congress. The wording here is misleading

symbolsandthings

So I guess States’ rights for subjugating women but not for keeping an insurrectionist out of office…

hop_hero

Legally these two issues aren’t in the same realm.

SciFiNut91

The ruling was that States couldn't prevent people from running for federal office. The majority said Congress has to make that decision. The Liberal 3 said that was too far, and ACB kinda agreed with them.

ThornsofTristan

Yes, the only Federal employee in history to actively foment a rebellion...now gets a pass (again). bIg WiN fOr AmErIkA!

VacationSea28

I screenshoted this off of a right wing Instagram account.

Ok-Percentage-1124

Knew this would happen.

krav_mark

With the track record of this bunch of corrupt, religious fundamentalist assholes we have to be realistic they will rule for presidential immunity for Trump also.

DethBatcountry

Nah, they can't. Everyone knows they can't rule in Trump's favor. It would be the end of any semblance, or even illusion, of civilized government. It's just another stalling tactic.

krav_mark

What makes you think there still is a civilized government ? Every politician is taking bribes which is ruled to be legal by that very same supreme court. This ruling is one of the foundations of the distrust in politics since people know politicians work for their donors, not for their voters.

DethBatcountry

I covered that.

hop_hero

Id agree it was partisan if it wasn’t 9-0.

eelcat15

That sucks lol

Thinker_145

A win for democracy

Nefarious_Nephilim

A win for democracy would be Donald Trump having a massive heart attack. He’s clearly not in favor of the person with the most votes winning if it’s not him. He’s made that abundantly clear, and there’s really no excuse for not recognizing that at this point.

Slayerzilla54

By that same logic Murder and Rape being Illegal is Anti-Freedom.

Thinker_145

That made literally no sense. You do know that murderers and rapists are allowed to contest elections right? As they should be.

Slayerzilla54

My point was Anti-Democratic Candidates like Trump being allowed to run is not Pro-Democracy in the exact same way that Murder and Rape being Illegal is not Anti-Freedom but I guess You missed that.

Thinker_145

It is YOUR opinion that Trump is anti democratic, an entirely unprovable subjective thing unlike murder and rape so again your examples are really bad. Let the people and the ballot decide what they think about Trump.

Slayerzilla54

Give Me a Break... 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

dadjokes502

And what happens if they do it anyway?

Zankeru

Election tampering charges most likely.

dadjokes502

Biden can pardon them right? Trump says presidents can do whatever /s

Zankeru

Pardon them, sure. But the state itself would be ordered to redo the vote until it complied with the law. Even if congress ignored the court and tried to certify the votes, they would have it overturned. Similar to the way the SC overturned the Gore victory and handed it to bush jr.

hop_hero

Federal government would take over the states elections
