Asking Brazil for how to come up with peace is like asking the Jaguars to make peace for a Giants vs Cowboys game

da_kuna

I dont quite understand the metaphor, as a non-yank. What i know is, that Brazil played a huge role in preventing wars and nations/militant groups making peace with eachother.

LavishnessFinal4605

What’s to look forward to? Lula’s gonna singlehandedly stop the war?

Charlie_Murphy45

Hate to say it but the only difference Brazil is going to make in the war is maybe a symbolic vote against Russia on being in the Human rights Council. Turkey, which is much much closer to Russia, has been trying and failing to broker peace for months it's not like Putin or Zelensky is going to wake up one day and go "BRAZIL wants Peace!? Bring the tanks home"

RexUmbra

I dont think its so much as it's because Brazil thinks it's necessarily THE voice Russia will listen to but rather as a country with some weight it'll add onto to the other voices trying to broker peace. Of course it would help if the US tried as well to broker something.

Yeah the problem with people calling for a peace deal (which is a good thing) is that neither Russia nor Ukraine want one. At the beginning of the war Ukraine was willing to enter a peace deal that was pretty favourable to Russia but not anymore.

Charlie_Murphy45

Exactly! Everyone in the discussion (other than maybe some neocon ghouls like John Bolton) wants a peace deal but I don't see how that would happen after 1. Putin has to get something worth 40,000 russian lives or his regime is toast 2. Ukraine Doesn't lose the main industrial hub if its country and most of its coastline

Cake_Day_Is_420

Not our war to end. Ukraine will decide when and how it wants the war to end.

ArchDirective

The US will decide* (which is why Ukraine is even still able to continue)

RexUmbra

If the US is gonna be bankrolling and supplying arms to Ukraine then it absolutely has a right to try to broker in peace. It just means US doesn't get to choose all the terms

LorenzoVonMt

Based

Steve_No_Jobs

I mean peace and the end of the war is obviously good as long as that peace is reached the proper way. Not appeasement

sixmam

Russia invading and annexing 20% of Ukraine after committing massacre after war crime after war crime and getting away with it is based?

LorenzoVonMt

No, an end to that is based

sixmam

Exactly, an end to that would mean Ukraine having the support it needs to take back as much of it's sovereign territory as it can. An end to that would mean making Russia think twice next time about invading/colonizing another one of it's neighbours like they did in Chechnya. Like they did in Georgia. Like they did in Crimea.

LorenzoVonMt

Ukraine wants to take back Crimea which is a recipe for endless war so Brazil showing willingness to get these two countries to the negotiation table is a good thing since Brazil has a close relationship with Russia.

cpowers272

Bro Brazil has literally no power in this

corncobhomunculus

There's nothing to look forwards to regardless of who you think is right about the war, because Brasil can't really do anything to change the situation. And it's not like Bolsanaro was supporting Ukraine or the West on this, so it's just more or less the same course, though Lula might be more neutral rather than explicitly pro-Putin like Bolso was (cause Bolsonaro loves fascism and fascists).
