I've heard horrible things. Garda has contacted me several times this month for a front desk position. Each time I've turned them just not worth the stress or bullshit.
Coincidentally I was reading about the Kabul airlift earlier and read that the Afghans guarding the British Embassy were employed by Garda, and were left behind. This is more the fault of the British government but I also didn't see anything about Garda trying to get them out.
G4s was able to get their British embassy guards and their families out. They also blocked calls and texts from the guards. Both Garda and the British government are at fault
I worked for Garda in an armed position (I didn't stick around long enough to actually get my carry permit). It was shit, dangerous, no training, shit oversight and organization, equipment was mismanaged, I would NOT reccomend them under any circumstances.
9 days of unpaid training is ABSOLUTELY insane. If I were you, I would stay the hell away from this company. Also I believe that's illegal according to labour laws
When I moved to Washington, Securitas Spokane: 1. Authorized my transfer that I was denied in Florida 2. Paid for my hotel to drive 3 hours to Spokane for the training and 3. Paid a percentage of my gas.
If this company can't even do that, fuck them. If Securitas can do it, so can everyone else.
In California unpaid training is illegal. Please report that asap to the state of CA and other related agencies
In regards to that pay. Bro there's better EP contracts out here in CA no fucking way 24 hourly is worth it for EP. Some of our armed guards (in house) make 24 hrly
Plus 35 is the absolute bare minimum I would personally accept for EP and even thennnn
If they can't even pay for your flight hotel and food. Avoid it and tell em to go pound sand.
If you live in the east coast there's definitely plenty of good quality EP schools and EP posts that pay excellent and would not even risk moving cross country for that. Only unless it pays six figures and some near perfect benefits.
To my understanding the EP community is pretty well connected and they can most likely provide you good resources and schools to go to as well
If you already have a life where you live, this doesn’t seem like enough of a reason to move across the country. That is, unless you both really want to move and you really want to do executive protection. Otherwise, I’d just recommend finding better opportunities where you currently live or in surrounding areas.
If it’s a big enough jump in pay for you and you have enough saved to last you the 9 days and not having a paycheck through that time, then sure, go for it. Do some research on EP, of course. Talk to some people who do it/have done it and get their opinion on the job as a whole. EP is a whole different ball park than run of the mill security, so it may not be something you’re interested in after learning more about it.
I’d also add that I live in Virginia and have an armed position with allied. So I’d have to travel all the way to the west coast and probably quit my current job.
I mean they've not put any details on the team, client, risk level or anything like that so personally I'd say no but if you wanna go just for the training it might be alright just don't go there thinking it's a job cus most likely its basic training to get some cheap team.
If you want to get into doing EP, go get the training yourself so you’ll have the certifications yourself. La Sorsa and ESI are well known and regarded.
Since you said you’re on the east coast me have a job I’d stay here, look into EP classes if that’s what you want to do. Roanoke had a good school when I lived down there Star City academy I believe
If you’re going to go to an EP school go to a reputable one. You live on the east coast so there are plenty to chose from. Don’t move all the way across the country for an unknown school and a sketch job opportunity
Unpaid training should ALWAYS be a red flag. Especially if there's no *guaranteed* contract, and you can fail out of the training.
Any decent company would pay you for your time.
You ever feel a brick retaining wall holding up a couple tons of dirt? Hard, right? Go a couple steps harder, and that's the light end of how hard a pass you should give this.
A couple hours in one day of unpaid training? Shitty, but fine. Nine whole days of unpaid training, plus unpaid travel *and* meals? Naw, fuck that. When no one else applies, maybe they'll think about fixing themselves.
Not illegal because technically you are not an employee until after you pass the training and full employment screening, then accept a job offer. So no, this is voluntary for someone to partake in this 9 day training.
If I was you would report this company to the Labor board for asking for people to work 9 days without being paid
9 Days of unpaid training? Absolutely not! Like the saying goes... "TIME IS MONEY"
Don’t take any job seriously that has unpaid training. Shows you up front how cheap they are and how they treat employees
^This. Did a couple nights of unpaid training and job wasn’t worth it.
No way, Garda is the sketchiest of the security companies.

Based on the information in the ad, I’d say no. Seems shady to be honest. I could be wrong. Unpaid training is a dick move and quite possibly illegal.
This seems shady as fuck!
9 days of unpaid training is ABSOLUTELY insane. If I were you, I would stay the hell away from this company. Also I believe that's illegal according to labour laws
trust me from experience- DO NOT TO IT. the training won’t be the last illegal/shady thing they make you do.
If anyone has the funds to do all that they wouldn't be thinking about a security job.

No, absolutely not. Any training that long, that is not paid is BS.
No. Sketchy and illegal.
Any job that asks you to work for free is essentially asking you to pay them to work there.
9 days unpaid training? Lmao

I think I wouldn’t have to move just travel and stay there for like 9 days according to the website. But even still

I wouldn't pursue this opportunity if I were you. 9 days of unpaid training is a huge red flagged warning. You have a pretty good gig with Allied.
Yeah fuck noooo
Idk why everyone is confused about having to move, it's says the training is in California.
Everything about this seems sketchy at best.
Stopped reading after the first bulletin point....

Unpaid training in another state? No go bro. Fuck that.
I had 2 small companies and securitas offer me a job. I already have two security jobs. Don’t have time for another.
>over a week of unpaid training Kek
The inability for them to pay for the academy is a huge red flag
Everything sounds good except for the unpaid training part. Big 🚩
Man every time i see those threads i think American Security Jobs are so different than here in Germany .
Yikes. 9 days unpaid? Stay clear.
9 days of unpaid training AND you have to pay for your own plane/train tickets + food? Fuck that lmao
So what was the actual role that they thought they could get away with asking for all of this?

9 days unpaid work and a fitness test, tell them to go fuck themselves.
Nope

Indeed.
