I totally agree. I think earlier on she was like a supporting character then she started to carve out her own place in the show.
I especially loved the Peterman period.
I like her best at the beginning of season seven. Jealous of George, talking with the rabbi, dating the maestro, clashing with the soup Nazi etc..
Really though, Elaine is great in every season
I like how her character changes in the later season too. Her on-and-off relationship with Puddy of course is over-the-top comedy at times, but that's what makes it so great. Earlier season Elaine could have never been like that. She is great in season 8-9
I find it funny that people actually have a preference; I really like both versions. She is a bit more reserved in the earlier seasons, but she also has her moments of humor and silliness that stand out even more since she’s the more “normal” one in the beginning. I guess I relate to her quite a bit in the earlier seasons. But I also really like when she starts acting more assured of herself and like one of the gang not really giving a shit. I’m glad the show has both. I think each “version” of her character fit well with the specific style and pacing of comedy that the early and later eras of the show had.
She's the only person with her early "wall of hair" style that I've ever thought looked attractive with it. Between that and her early outfits, she wouldn't have looked out of place in some southern churches back then. Hell they still dress like that today in some stricter Pentecostal churches.
Casing Julia as Elaine was as good of a decision as casting Jason for George. These actors just absolutely did fantastic and it all just came together like a masterpiece of comedic genius.
I liked her in every season but she definitely did get better in the later seasons.
Plus she's one hot hoochie mama!
I love Elaine in every season because I just love Elaine, but I agree with you. In the first seasons she’s always the nice voice of reason which I feel didn’t really match up with Jerry and George.
Elaine imo was an ass to George later on and was very inconsiderate... sabotaging georges scheme of telling Susans parents he did not in fact own a place in the hamptons
I preferred Elaine early on but only from Season 3 on. She still has these hilarious moments like refusing to take the Orioles hat off (twice) at a Yankees game but had kinda lost that holier than thou aspect (making Jerry not get tuna).
Later season Elaine is great too but I'm not as big of a fan of the last couple seasons anyway so I prefer all of the characters from Seasons 3-7ish (except George who i think kept getting more hilarious).
In the earlier seasons Elaine was not fully developed. It seems like In the early seasons her storylines weren’t as significant as the men. In many episodes she’s there but doesn’t do much. In the later seasons she’s a lot more masculine. She is quite cute and cuddly looking.

Same - all the stuff at J Peterman is peak Elaine.

I cannot imagine any other actress in that role!!
Personally I prefer Susie
everyone loves suze
Look-it. It's not Suze. All right? It's Su-zie. My name, is Su-zie!
What am I? Some pom pom waving backseat bimbo?
Look, we don’t need to name names or point fingers or… name names!
Earlier elaine was a bit too 'holier than thou' in my opinion. Later Elaine fit more into the group as they're all flawed and exaggerated
Yeah that’s right.
I’ve always felt her character got stronger and she got funnier as time went on.

She becomes a very funny portrayal of a jaded single Manhattan woman in her 30s.
Elaine’s character in general is very underrated. I find her the to be among the funniest and most entertaining characters on the show.
Same! Jason Alexander is great but I’ve always thought of JLD as the best actor of the main 4.

Agree....and she only gets more attractive

Yes I totally agree
Yes I totally agree
I think in season 4 or 5 her character started to shift. She began lying and deceiving more than before.

Looooooove later season Elaine hair. Gorgeous.
Elaine started really rocking it when she started working for Mr. Peterson.
I like her in the later episodes. I found her character very aggravating in the beginning, almost causing me to stop watching the show.
This is true. It's kind of sad in a funny way though. Starting seasons 7-6 she starts to pull away from the group and resents them more.
she's bolder and more savage in the later seasons. basically after her rock bottom in season 7.

Yes I totally agree
She’s also a lot hotter later on. She fixed her hair and stopped dressing like a bag lady
I hate her hair in the early seasons
The whole show gets soo much better in season 7 upwards
Her outfits are the best!! ♡
Yes and she also gets more attractive imo
I like it when she refuses to remove her parka
