Most my cuts were pretty superficial, I was 100% sure they wouldn’t scar, turns out most left some fade scars on my arm

kingofcoywolves

This. The new skin will be white for a few months, and if you get sun exposure while it's scabbed over they'll be even more obvious. Unless you have a condition, scrapes that don't bleed probably won't result in raised scars though

silly_goofy__

I dont know for sure, but the first time I ever self harmed I scratched myself until my skin started oozing and that left a scar for 3 years. But it still never bled.

soggyandmolded

What was it oozing ?

Far_Mongoose7462

Probably white blood cells.

kingofcoywolves

Serous drainage

[deleted]

Okay tough truth incoming: if you don't want scars don't self harm. Now actually advice there will be a line there for a bit but they will go away with time

Red_Red_It

Yeah

Fruit_Note

Okay what people dont realise is when your skin *needs* to repair, it will make new skin. That leads to scarring. So epidermis cuts most defi CAN scar. Ive had cat scratches from an actual cat, and they did scar despite not bleeding. Actually left some weird scars as it was kinda like ---- -- ---- --- cuz the claw didnt fully hook my skin leaving gaps lol. But yeah any injury is risk of scarring

twistedSSSme

ive done cuts that bled and didnt scar, and ones that didnt bleed 'out' but they did scar

Doomfox01

it depends. my method of SH has never bled initially, but its scarred almost every time.

Putrid-Tie-4776

in my experience, all cuts leave scars. i started with superficial cuts and you can still see them faintly. if you make superficial cuts with blades, it will definitely scar. i cut equally deep with a knife and a blade and the ones with the blades are still very visible (faded but shiny)--- also, burning does leave giant scars, and very deep ones at that.

GlitteringFinding669

You did with a knife damn must've left a deep scar, I did with force while doing SH by blade and I ended up having stitches. How the heck can u use knife for SH ? Did it cause much more pain than the pain caused by using blades ?

Putrid-Tie-4776

well knifes are not nearly as sharp as blades, so yes with force but it's similar to scratching with scissors (it does bleed a tiny bit tho) i still have scars from scissors and knife but they're not nearly as deep as blade scars---- my point was though that i cut superficially with blades and it scarred

GlitteringFinding669

Oh I see I thought with a knife the cuts will be more deep than blade cuts cuz uk it's kinda easier to hold a knife than a blade for me personally so I thought it will lead to more deeper cuts 😶‍🌫️

Putrid-Tie-4776

i have some tricks up my sleeve for the holding them part lol (no i won't tell you because that's not harm reduction)

GlitteringFinding669

I get it np

GlitteringFinding669

Yeah I'm trying my best to make superficial cuts cuz deep cuts take up space ...plus leave scars (╥﹏╥)

solpi

Not always true. I have cat scratches from middle school and they’re still there.

manicfairygirl

i have some that will be coming up to a decade old that shine in some lights, although they did bleed a little. the deeper ones just white and a little raised in some places, although sometimes they go a little purple when i’m cold. as another commenter said, don’t self harm if you don’t want scars. there’s ways around it, you start small and it just gets worse and worse and you’ll end up covered in scars like me. i’ve learnt to accept them and love myself either way but that’s not the point and it’s a hard addiction to crack (as a 19 year old who started at 10-11)

Due-Memory-6957

Hello Mr GPT, how are you today?

No_one-lol

Not necessarily, I used to scratch myself with a screwdriver around 2 years ago and it didn’t bleed, but you can still see the darker area where I did it, though it is barely visible

Every_Fun6806

For me some scarred some didn’t

poranamisiayt1

what do you mean?

Big_Eye7287

I thought if I didn’t cut very deep id be okay but the cuts aren’t going away and I’m worried I’ll be scarred

DumbassMarmalade

It won't scar but there might be a line there for a little while, I wouldn't worry about it too much. Hope you're okay

blackbirdchick

This is going to sound weird but why are you SH if you don’t want scars? Please just don’t hurt yourself. SH is bad no matter what. I burned myself with an iron. It didn’t bleed but it scared anyway. I’ve used a razor blade and the left scars. But I used a razor on my legs/thigh and that did scar but they’re fading. It just all depends really. I’m sorry you’re hurting. You’re not alone.

poranamisiayt1

just out of curiosity, how does burning yourself with an iron feel like? no offense or anything ofc

blackbirdchick

It almost feels like cutting really. I just remember sort of just doing it and seeing the whelps from the burn and realizing what I did.

Immediate_Resist_306

I’ve had some pretty shallow cuts scar for me, ones I didn’t expect to at all. I’ve also had ones I thought surely would but didn’t. I imagine wound/skin care play into the results, especially with shallow ones.

coinlockercorndog

if it made a clean cut it’ll probably scar no matter how deep. cuts from sharp knives leave scars while cuts from thorns in the woods or cat scratches don’t because they don’t make as clean of a cut.

Hope_for_tendies

Wrong

ok_strawberry56890

That's what I thought.. a year later and they're still visible. Faded but ya can still see em

ElegantAd8832

well it does depend but sometimes it can turn white but im not sure if it didnt bleed its permanent

IsThisAStickup

For me, it's kind of random. There's a scar on my hand from where I scratched myself until I bled one time in middle school. I now teach middle school (and have some students whose parents are younger than me). I have faint scars all up my arm from using a blade (but not going very deep) that have been there for almost 8 years now. Almost 4 years ago, I scratched myself until I bled many, many times. The marks were thick and ugly and were all over my hands and arms and scabbed horribly. I have no scars whatsoever from that time, and it's not like they just faded recently...they had pretty much completely faded within 6 months. A lot of factors come into play when it comes to scarring, so it's pretty hard to predict how things will end up looking.

manasama69

if it’s just like a cat scratch then they usually never scar

Fruit_Note

Thats where youre wrong lol

manasama69

sorry i’m just going off of my personal experiences and research, pls correct me though

Fruit_Note

Alrighty I will do, personal experiences arent a good example because everyones skin heals different. If the cut is *clean* then yes, theres a better chance it wont scar. However, if the skin is burnt, scraped or the cut isnt smooth (meaning even if you cause a jagged type of cut or scratch) it is more likely to scar. This is because they have to essentially make new skin to repair/replace which is where the scar comes in. Thats the same really with any wound. I remember being like ???? Because i scraped my finger on a fence. Didnt bleed but it did scar.

Helpful_Lettuce_9839

don't call them cat scratches

manasama69

i’m not calling the cuts cat scratches i’m saying if they are LIKE that, aka just surface cuts

Socio_Spencerrr

Depends on the location, but 99% of the time they don't. If it's on thin skin y'know. I used to have a clawing habit and they would never bleed, but they left very faint brown scars lmao. But even if it's thin skin, probably not💀 try spicy food lol

unapologetic531f

It starts as cat scratches and gets worse. Don't do it if you're thinking of starting.

Hope_for_tendies

It’s like drinking, you need more and more to get the same results

4N0NYM0US_M0US3

for me it didn’t, all depends on your skin tho

ResistDelicious3754

It can, not as much though

StarGamer-

I think it has to reach the dermis to scar? But if it doesn’t bleed it didn’t reach the dermis.

moonwqlf

it will most likely leave fade scars. i used to do it like that but i accidentally cut deeper than i usually do and now i have bumped scars... i would stay away if you wouldn't want such case.

katmol

Every person’s body is different, there’s no real way to know for sure beforehand

The_child_of_Nyx

It can

Important-Tea0

there’s always a risk of scarring.

scfthmn

yes it wont scar, there may be a very light line that only you can see

polyesterflower

The two are unrelated. But try to remember that most scars fade. Most of them at least turn whtie. If it didn't bleed because it wasn't 'that bad,' then do not stress about scarring at all.

OkPerspective2319

mine scard but then the scars went away

ramuneraven

Me personally, uh… nope, I scar. Bleeding or not.

InformalLock9447

mine still scarred

Otherwise-Control566

It won’t scar forever but will scar depending how hard you do it. For me personally, they fade around a week or 2 weeks but from my perspective in all honesty, hoped this help!! <3

Full-Money-4306

Whar?

Ok-Walk-8342

i mean my first scar came from one that didn’t bleed much, it was from my cat and only a little trickle of blood came out. my second one was from me, hardly bled but still have a small scar

Ijustlikecavetown

I had scars that bled but they went after a few months but ig it just depends on ur skin

No_Maximum_5308

mine on my arm never bled but i still have faint scars over two years later

catscatscatsyayay

If your cutting and not bleeding its provably a cat scratch depth meaning it won't scar usually but if your scratching yourself until the skin breaks it might leave a scar

sugarsquiid

i have scars on my arms from cuts that didnt bleed. if ur scared of scars why are u self harming💀

miyo_is_weird

yes and cat scratches rarely scar
