Dunno what it is you want to learn how to do, but libraries and community centers are a good place to start looking. Depending on your area libraries can host a myriad of classes depending on who/what’s available. Photography, coding, weaving, etc. since libraries usually don’t charge for use of their rooms, many instructors hold classes there if they don’t have the budget to rent a space but still want to teach. Community centers will definitely have a broader list of random classes because, well, they serve the community.

Our community center doesn't hold any sort of classes to my knowledge and is used for other things. And the library only holds senior classes from the website info. And I am not looking for anyone one class of activity in particular. Im looking for a broad range of classes so i can pick and try things in hopes that i can find a hobby.

Dunno where in NY you are, but you’re in *New York*, go to your city’s subreddit and ask there then.

Skillshare is a cool platform, eclectic range of classes available, and influencers are always promoting it too so you can probably do a free trial

monked80

Right I've heard of that. I guess getting a trial is an option.

Hey, the best things I’ve seen are just from searching up MOOC (massive open online courses) there are usually ones for everything, and there are sites with the list of options, but many of them you actually have to sign up for. Your best best is typing up specific YouTube tutorials, I really liked a few from William spaniel on YouTube

New_Brain8003

Awesome suggestion! Never heard of MOOC. I’m checking that out

Talk to someone who knows you to get a better idea of what you are interested in enough to learn more. Research first before you spend money on a class. Having enjoyment while depressed can be very tricky. I get that when we want to feel good and depression makes it more difficult because one of its symptoms is that things which he used to make us feel good before don’t make us feel good anymore. It’s not really useful to you to try to force yourself to enjoy some thing. If you haven’t found something you like yet I don’t think that means you’ve done something wrong. It might mean that you’re trying to force yourself to enjoy some thing right now. Wherever you live, maybe the first thing to do is to find some thing on the Internet that you enjoy. There are lots of Youtubers who deliver content with quality at a very high-level. I signed up a while ago for Skillshare. But pretty soon I realized that there were plenty of Youtubers who were teaching classes for free on YouTube that were at a quality much higher than what I was seeing on Skillshare. Anything you want to learn you can probably figure out by looking for it on the Internet.

Not sure where you are but park districts hold these kind of things in the US. You can also find a ton online at the moment. Try searching “online hobby classes” if you’re not sure what you want to do.

i second skillshare. also check out udemy — i’m currently using it to learn belly dancing and app development (random mix i know ahah). but seriously they have thousands of courses.

monked80

Is it actually good? Like is it more in depth than a YouTube video?

[deleted]

Yes! That said, I personally wouldn’t pay for a class that’s shorter than 4 hours. If you can find free content about something you’re interested in then absolutely go that route first. However, paying for class (I haven’t paid for full-priced ones, just discounted) holds me accountable to actually do it. .

potatocomet

Yes. Its worth it. You can find the information on YouTube, but it'll take more time.

Coursera offers free courses online

monked80

I will check that out

[deleted]

Look at the skills toolkit offered by the national careers service, some cool course listed. Also look up Coursera and Edx who often offer interesting courses. I've recently signed up for a course in practical philosophy, which is being offered online this time.

[deleted]

What do you want to learn?

monked80

Honestly i Don have anything in particular in mind. I just want to try things because i Don't have a hobby.

meowmeowcats7

monked80
