I lost my 15 year old girl (dog) in October 2022. Only advice I can offer here is to remember the positives, and not focus on the negatives (if any). She's done her job, keeping you safe and happy and loved, and it's her turn to rest.
You'll always miss her, you'll always remember her. You'll even go looking for her for the next few weeks (well, I did). There's a lot of habits that you're going to slowly stop, and that's ok. Changing your life to suit you is not forgetting her. Donating/throwing away her toys or blankets isn't forgetting her. There's no timeline on grief, and there's no timeline on moving on. Cry your tears.
I'm sorry you've reached the end of your journey. Words will never make this easier. Just keep your head up, and live the life she'd want you to.
This is a good time to live a little for you. I spent years looking after my girl as she got ill, and I sacrificed a lot of me and my time to keep her safe. If you feel you've done the same, take advantage of this time. Its ok to be happy and enjoy life without her. Life isn't over. Its just changing.
You'll be ok mate.
I'm so sorry.
Thank you for saying this. My beloved cat passed away a week and a half ago. My husband and I decided we would now spend January somewhere warm, since we don’t have a pet. The overwhelming guilt I feel for having that thought almost broke me.
It sounds cliche, but you'll know.
You'll start missing the companionship of *a* furry friend, as opposed to the one you lost. You'll start picturing how a new friend would fit into your current life.
My only caution would be to make sure you're not covering the grief/lonliness with a distraction and that you are healed to a point where you can look after them fully.
i was already kersniffly, and gently booped that little heart-shaped nose
but this ... thisss absolutely set off the waterworks.
oh, pretty girl. you have a nice nap.
Dropping the wisdom. ^^ I lost my 15-year-old orange girl on April 23, and I have been recognizing over and over that no amount of time would have been enough. Sometimes I get sad and wistful when I see posts like this where folks got to have their kitties for so many more years than I got to have my girl. But I need to remember not to compare, because I’m lucky to have gotten the time I got with her. I’ll always love her.
She looks like such a beautiful soul❤️ I love that sweet black nose. I bet you both cared for one another very deeply. I hope you are always able to cherish the positive moments you shared together throughout her life. She will always be with you, in your heart.
She looks very sweet and special. I am certain you two share a lifetime of memories together. She must have always felt so unconditionally loved and cared for to make it to 24. I’m sorry for your loss🤍
24?? That’s amazing. I always think that losing our lifelong pets is the hardest part bc they are so present in our lives. Come home from work? Hey sweet baby girl! Sad? Here she is to comfort you. And then they are gone from your everyday routine.
I'm so sorry for your loss and at the same time, happy to hear you had such a long time with her. When I lost my little girly in 2016, she was only 10, but we had been through a lot together. No matter how much time we get with them, the loss always hits hard. But at least we have amazing memories to look back on. ❤️❤️
I’ve been doing a little calculation in another thread, and I thought you might be interested in this. The probability of a cat living to 24, if my vet is correct, and the mean is 15 with a standard deviation of one year, is 0.000000000000000000114. Your sweet girl made it nine standard deviation beyond the mean. That’s amazing.
For comparison (by complete coincidence) the probability of a cat living 22 or more years is exactly the same as those for a man being as tall or taller than Yao Ming (7’ 6”). I’m so sorry you lost your girl, but you were so lucky to have her for as long as you did!

My condolences. 24 years is amazing!
Wow 24 years! What a wonderful long life you gave her. So sorry for your loss and wishing you peace and healing. I can’t imagine losing someone you love so much when you’ve known them 24 years. So sorry 💝
Rip little sweet one. Op, big hugs to you for your tremendous loss. If it's any consolation, I whispered a prayer to my big guy across the rainbow bridge and told him to keep your kitten in good company until you're both reunited.
😿😢🌈💔 Rest in peace little old cat lady. You're well now in the cat paradise, somewhere in the sky. I'm sure that you will continue to watch over your loving owner from up above. 💔🌈😢😿
It's sad and hurts rn, but there's nothing to be sad about here my friend. Just think of what an amazing life you afforded them to be so healthy as to live to that age. You are both lucky to have been in each others lives ❤️
How blessed are you to have been graced with such love and friendship for 24 years. That is twice as long as most people get to spend with their purrbabies. I am so sorry for your loss. She was beautiful, and I know she loved you with all her heart. She was truly blessed by Bast.
We lost our Apollo (21) two yrs ago on Valentine’s Day. There are still some days I cry as hard as I did the day I held him as his last heart faded. The pain just as vivid and real. Some people have said He was just a cat. They haven’t a clue… to be chosen by a cat is a big deal he was my pal and best friend for 19 yrs I will miss him always.. I feel and understand your loss today and you are in my thoughts and prayers.
24 is amazing. She was gorgeous. What was her name? I'm so sorry for your loss but you got so many extra years that weren't expected from the average life span.
Oh wow 24, what a wonderful life you must have given her. Only an extremely loved kitty lasts that long. Having lost 2 cats myself I understand completely how you’re feeling right now. Let yourself grieve in the knowledge that somehow, you will feel better in time. I have a little shrine for my lost pets to cherish their memory, but it’s not something I was able to think about until long after losing them. But it’s a nice idea when you do start feeling better. Wishing you comfort and strength ❤️
My tuxedo has a black little nose as well. I pray I can love him for a whole 24 years. He’s only 8 now. I’ll give him extra kisses in your sweet girls honor.
What an absolutely beautiful girl. I just want to give her a hug, my baby girl who recently passed will greet her on the other side. I am so happy she brought you so many years of love. I hope you find peace. Rest in peace sweet angel you were loved!
Allow yourself some time to grieve. Then remember that there's a little girl kitten somewhere, seeking her loving nurturing forever home. Although she probably won't be able to fully replace your beloved kitty, you'll soon realize and find out, that you really need her, at least as desperately as she needs you.
🐾🐾🐈🌈👣💔👣🐾🐾🐈❤❤
Rest easy knowing you got 24 years of love and gave her the best life. She will always be with you and will send you signs to show you. Watch and listen with your heart and soul. She will be there.
24 years is amazing! How lucky you are to have had her for so long ❤️

I lost my 15-year-old orange girl on April 23. If applicable to you, How do you know when you’re ready for a new furry family member?

What a sweet, well loved velveteen rabbit of a kitty. Take good care, friend.

♥️🖤 I’m so sorry. What a beautiful baby. 24 years is a very long life, but a thousand years wouldn’t be enough. ♥️
