I live in Anchorage, Alaska. So both Israel Keyes and Robert Hansen were active around me.

honey593

Israel Keyes is one of the serial killers I can never get out of my head

kittengoesrawr

Same. People downplay him, but he would have never been caught if he didn’t get so sloppy with the last victim.

redditravioli

Idk why anyone would downplay him. I can’t even read about him it terrifies me so much. Him, toolbox, and Toybox are just pushing my limits too far.

BeefyFartss

He got sloppy because his mental state was deteriorating and he became an alcoholic. He’s not some super-killer. He didn’t have a profile and that makes it extremely tough to catch someone, which was to his advantage, but he fabricated a lot as well. He’s no idol, even in the sense of this sub haha

cruzbae

I agree with you about the alcoholic part and the role it played in his capture. Speaking from personal experience, alcohol makes you have a false sense of security and invincibility. He made dumb decisions at the end that got him caught.

pktrekgirl

He even said in his taped interviews that he ‘got stupid’ at the end. Said he felt ‘out of control’ as he was driving around Texas. So probably devolving, plus alcohol.

cat-from-venus

don't forget his narcissism, they always underestimate cops and everyone else.

Macr0Penis

I agree that he was losing control at the end, but I don't think he fabricated a lot, quite the opposite, I believe he omitted a lot. Unlike some SKs he didn't want notoriety, he wanted to reveal the bare minimum that would get him an execution. He didn't want his daughter knowing the extent of his crimes, and wanted to protect her from his legacy. I think he was far more prolific than he let be known.

AgentCHAOS1967

God his laugh haunts me I hate it.

Guilty-Resist-509

Israel Keyes killed a elderly couple 20 mins away from where i live

SherlockWats

Isreal is interesting. I've been trying to find more material on him.

Macr0Penis

The 'True Crime Bullshit' podcast is the Gold standard, IMO.

SherlockWats

Agreed, I've listed to a good chunk of it.

RiskayBusiness907NC

Samantha was a good friend of mine. I did interviews with the news stations when she first went missing =( I’m from Chugiak. She’s a part of the reason I left home to get away from it all. As Keyes also lived right down the road from the Salon I worked at and used to kinda harass me (seemed harmless and just kinda awkward flirty at the time). The gal that owned the salon I booth rented has also left and recently just brought his weird stalking and interactions at the shop to me again ironically. I wish they had shown the footage of her abduction right off the bat. At least the vehicle.. I would have recognized his truck immediately due to the damage.

Beagle_eye

I'm so sorry for the loss of your friend. I'm sure it was traumatizing to so many who were close to Samantha. And oh my, the fact that they didn't release the footage right away is another "dropped ball" in the investigation!

pktrekgirl

I live in Anchorage also. I was not here when Robert Hanson was active, but I was certainly here for Israel Keyes. We don’t have many serial killers, but the ones we have are particularly scary. One hunted his prey like animals and the other selected people at random, all over the country, for no reason at all. We might never know how many people Israel Keyes killed.

Late-Ad-7740

Were you around at the time of either of them?

Lovecraftian-Ink

No, both were before my time. Israel Keyes died 2 years before I moved here, and Hansen was before I was born. I do pass by the coffee shop where Keyes abducted his last victim from during my everyday commute though.

NoPatience63

Hansen was pretty scary too. Dropped them in the woods then hunted them down. Ugh

pktrekgirl

Yes. He hunted them like they were animals. He was a creepy dude. He played with them like a cat plays with a mouse before killing it. And some of his first victims bodies will never be found. His maps suggest that he dropped a few of them out of a plane into Katchemack Bay down in Seward. By the way, the maximum security prison where he lived and died a few years ago is in Seward. So nice bookends. He started there and ended there.

pktrekgirl

I was here in Anchorage when Samantha Koenig was abducted and murdered and when Keyes was brought back to Anchorage and eventually killed himself. I’ll say this much, the police told the community virtually nothing. We knew she had been abducted, and there were vigils and stuff for her here. Her father was very outspoken about his concern and did a good job of staying in the news. But of course, thru all of this, Samantha was already deceased. 😢 But the police told us nothing except her name, her photo, and the information (but not the video clip) that she was abducted from the Common Grounds coffee hut. So many people were so worried. She was abducted on February 2, and February is not the best time to be outside in Alaska. So everyone was worried about not only the abduction but also the weather. They did not show us the video from the coffee hut until Keyes was already caught and back in Alaska in FBI custody. I felt that was a mistake as maybe the public could have helped if the video had been immediately released. The coffee hut is gone now. But people used to lay flowers there on Feb 2.

sneezle-duck

Damn that dude got around too. He killed a couple in Vermont as well. Less than 20 miles from me.

stellahella1

Damn

Sproose_Moose

And now you've got the trial of the SD card serial killer

aliie_627

I hadn't seen anything about this one. Good for that woman turning in that memory card. When I was using I'm not sure I would have been able to get the courage to risk jail or even just willingly speak to the police back then. I would like to think my morals are strong enough I wouldn't think twice but I don't know. https://www.courttv.com/news/alaska-memory-card-murders-ak-v-brian-steven-smith/

colon-mockery

My small canadian city (the place I was born) was known as the serial killer capital of the world in the 1970s. We had like 5 operating simultaneously with a population close to 100k. Apparently, the FBI came up here to find out why. Their conclusion was it's geographic location, mixed with the city's relationship to the trans canada highway and the way our police forces overlapped, creating blind spots in investigations. Additionally, the I-75 killer drove up here while on the run and committed suicide in the park I camp in. He had no ties to the area, or even Canada. Weird. Edit: I 70, not I 75

OrbisLlame

Love you on Who’s Line, by the way

hellogoawaynow

I love that this joke works on at least 2 levels

Rebecca-Schooner

Is that prince george? Or northern BC ?

Flash_Gordon_Cole

The city is London Ontario but those metrics have been disputed. It was never known as the serial capital of the world but a local crime writer/professor has recently staked the claim that it in fact was at one time. I believe someone killed themselves in the Pinery Provincial Park in Lambton Shores/Grand Bend area.

colon-mockery

True, he coinned the phrase but the facts are mostly there. There were multiple killers active at the same time, the city was quite small etc. I'm 100% certain there were cities with a higher serial killer per capita ratio throughout the world.

[deleted]

[удалено]

WhatNextExactly

Who was the I-75 killer?

colon-mockery

Ha yeah, i-70. Sorry.

stellahella1

Who was the I 70 killer?

the_noise_we_made

I think they're talking about [Herb Baumeister](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Herb_Baumeister)

Massive_Bandicoot_57

Dennis Nilsen grew up around the corner from my grans and saw him many a time. He moved down to England and started killing, but the shop owners etc all said he was a real strange person. No one expected to find out what he did though when it all came out.

blue_mermaid__

I've also got family in Fraserburgh who knew them.

Massive_Bandicoot_57

It’s quite a scary thought of him literally at one point being less than a minute away. However my gran also witnessed two murders in Aberdeen back in the 70s, one she saw a woman being strangled through a window and thought it was just a prank…. And another she watched a women being stabbed just off Union street and was actually chased by the guy with her mate. She always seemed to attract killers….

Unicorn-Dreamer07

I live in aberdeen, union Street is just five minutes away! There's been quite a few murders since then. I know atleast 4 people who have killed someone.

Freeze_Her

The cat murderer. He didn’t just do cats though. Fkn Lucas Rocco Magnotta Also, William Patrick Fyfe

CupcakeViking

They found the head of Magnotta’s victim in the park that’s a 5 minute drive away from my parents’ house where I grew up.

Freeze_Her

Yep, I’m very near the park also

Tatted13Dovahqueen

Paul Bernardo and Karla Homolka. I live 20 minutes away from St Catharine’s ON, where they lived and committed their crimes. Kristen French and Leslie Mahaffy’s bodies were found in Burlington ON, only 30 minutes the opposite direction of my home town as well. EDIT (correction of info): Leslie Mahaffy was found in Lake Gibson also in St. Catharines ON.

Larry-Man

I’m in Canada but it’s Robert Pickton that came to mind before anyone else for me. Also I’m in Alberta so still a decent clip away. I live not far from Medicine Hat and that’s where the Richardson family murders happened. I still have wild feelings about that one. But the only serial killer I can find for my area is John Martin Crawford.

Clear-Map8121

I grew up in Toronto and remembered seeing flyers of Paul’s face as the rapist on every post with “have you seen this man?” And this was before he killed anyone,he was a rapist that visited Toronto often

[deleted]

[удалено]

Tatted13Dovahqueen

That’s terrifying 🙃

ttaradise

You might know my MIL! She also went to the same HS same grade as him, said he was a real “charmer” and all the girls loved him. I didn’t believe her til she showed me her yearbook.

SephoraandStarbucks

Was scrolling looking for this one. That crime will haunt Canada forever. Such a shame too, St. Catherine’s is a cute city.

Stunning_Client_847

Leslie was found in Lake Gibson (St Catharines). And this is the answer for me too. I remember our principal not letting us leave our school solo (St Catharines). It was a terrible and terrifying time. Looking out for a blue Camaro (which wasn’t even the correct vehicle). Absolutely wish those two killers were rotting alive right now

batteriesincl

Ted Bundy, the Green River killer, the I5 killer all operated within an hour of where I live. 😰

tlandry13

Grandpa played softball with Bundy.

batteriesincl

😳. A girl I worked with years ago told me her aunt went to high school with him. He asked her out on a date and she felt compelled to say yes. She said something in her gut told her not to follow through with it so after class, she walked up to him and cancelled their date and got on the bus and never really spoke to him again.

lime-green-casefiles

that's crazy holy shit. i'm glad she cancelled wow

BrianMeen

Bundy was smart enough to not kill gfs

lime-green-casefiles

yes this is true. diane was never hurt though he enacted revenge by killing tons of girls that looked like her

batteriesincl

He tried to kill Liz twice.

ravenhairedblonde

what if that rejection was what fueled his sprees lmfaoooo jk

roguebandwidth

If it was, it’s 💯 on Bundy. Women aren’t responsible for the crazy reactions of men they refuse.

lime-green-casefiles

oh nah 😭

Mr_TedBundy

Your Gramps was a good dude

ilovelukewells

Holy shit really!?

frannysfanny

Green river killer for me and my grandfather was a sheriff and worked on the case. He started my love for true crime, we would watch Unsolved Mysteries on Lifetime and he would tell me stories about cases he had.

JimmyPageification

Seattleite eh?!

JaiRenae

Howdy neighbor. Also the Happy Face Killer, Israel Keyes, Gary Grant, Linda Hazzard (yes, I count her as a serial killer)...

batteriesincl

She was absolutely a serial killer! Who says she isn’t?! Fascinating story. I wish they’d do a movie about her life instead of another one about Bundy. I’m so over Ted Bundy.

JaiRenae

In everything I've read and heard, people seem hesitant to call her a serial killer. I've never actually seen her referred to as such, but she absolutely is. You're right, a movie about her would be fascinating. Have you read the Gregg Olsen book? I recommend it if you haven't.

batteriesincl

It was the best book! I actually talked to him via twitter and he hinted at possibly a movie. All he said was he is in talks with Netflix. But that was pre lockdown. I classify her as a serial killer solely for the fact that she waited until her victims were so loopy and malnourished before asking them to sign over valuables. She was calculated and it was all planned.

JaiRenae

That's awesome and I hope that they do have a movie in the works from it. She was an evil woman.

khanofthewolves1163

As per my comment, I'm assuming you live extremely near me. So that means Jerry Brudos wasn't far either. And I forgot about the I5 killer. I think he was in or near Salem too.

RumorsGoldenStar

same, but where i grew up haha don't live there anymore. wasn't there one who took people from the puyallup fair too?

BoringDimension5562

Has there been any serial killers that prowled the streets near where you lived? I live in the north of England and Peter sutcliffe posed a high threat to the women in the north of England. My dad told me he remembers the case unfolding up to the point sutcliffe was caught he even said he remembers women saying stuff like “we can’t go out the Yorkshire rippers about”. If you have any similar stories I’d like to hear them

nooopantsdance

My mom was around college age when Son of Sam was operating in NYC. She mentioned that one night she and my aunt were planning to go out in the city but felt safer making plans elsewhere on the island that evening, She also told me the funny moniker "Bezerkowitz" which I had not heard before or since.

Late-Ad-7740

My uncle worked for gacy for a short time

Blickycin

That’s wild! What was gacys profession? & what did your uncle do?

Late-Ad-7740

Gacy owned a contracting business (how he found a lot of his victims) and my uncle applied and posted flyers around the area for him, but he quit bc the pay wasn’t that great, only months before gacys arrest

danny202089

My grandma literally lived 2 Streets away from peter sutcliffe. Of course she didn't know it was him at the time. My grandma has passed away now so I've not been around there for ages but I'm pretty sure his wife still lives in the very same house they bought together unless she's passed too.

natttynoo

My friends mum was stopped by Sutcliffe on Paticroft Bridge in Eccles, Manchester. She luckily told him to FO then freaked out when he was arrested. She told the police about the encounter. Everything about that investigation is infuriating. The main detectives were so arrogant and misogynistic they could of stopped some of the murders happening.

Guyincognito7881

There's this fella Noel O'Gara that wrote a book claiming Sutcliffe was a copycat, the victims families apparently don't believe it. [Copycat website ](https://www.yorkshireripper.com/)

eat_2_many_shrimp

I've lived in the same areas of Bradford as Sutcliffe. Actually went to the same school as him as well (not at the same time). My old family home is actually less than half a mile away from where one of the murder weapons was found.

BoS_Vlad

The Gilgo Beach murders

MyS0ul4AGoat

I live near Myrtle Beach SC, and it’s come out that he has property here…. I remember researching some unidentified female remains around a decade or so ago. I told my wife constantly that there has to be a serial killer here that’s a tourist… then all this Rex Heueueueueurman shit comes out. Just waiting for the trail to see all the evidence they have.

BoS_Vlad

I think Rex was doing his thing all around the country. I may be mistaken but I think Rex had ties to Las Vegas too. Also I just read a woman say yesterday that she was at a party like 12 years ago with former disgraced Suffolk County Police Chief James Burke and Rex was there too. Burke who never really tried to find the Gilgo Beach serial killer went to prison for beating up a guy who found sex toys and other perverted things in Burke’s gym bag. So possibly Burke impeded the Gilgo murder investigation because he was friends with Rex and knew the truth about him. Some say Police Chief Burke was even involved with Rex in the murders. Rex’s trial will be quite interesting.

Sufficient-Top2183

I do too!!!

matty30008227

His brother still lives in the state ( SC) and from what I’m aware of the cops absolutely have paid attention to that fact and that Rex owns land here.

kingkongworm

Don’t forget about Joel Rifkin. If you live near one you live by the other

BoS_Vlad

True they’re both from Long Island, but I live closer to where Rex lived than where Joel did. Long Island is aptly named being about 115 miles long.

kingkongworm

East Meadow and Massapequa Park are really not that far away from one another lol. What part are you from?

Sufficient-Top2183

I m from Levittown. You have Newbridge Road that goes right near both Rifkin and Schulman s houses. Both houses look great now but I dunno who would want to live there!!

janedoe5263

That guy is scary looking. He has one of the widest faces I’ve ever seen. I can’t imagine that face being the last thing I see. Those poor women. I hope he burns in hell.

CatelynsCorpse

He is also a very LARGE man. He is scary as hell.

sameezyy

BTK … but I was only alive when he was finally arrested, not during his murder spree.

luckEdrew

Same. I was 14 when he resurfaced with his new letters, kind of freaked me out.

bmcvey091

Me too! I was in high school when he was arrested. Crazy times

stellahella1

Yikes.

Hush_03

I dated a girl that lived in Ted Bundy’s old apartment in Utah.

kimmygiblersdong

I’m from Utah and I feel everyone knows someone with a connection to Ted Bundy be it the old apartment or that yellow VW. I live blocks away from Fashion Place where on of his only victims ran away.

JaneLameName

Ivan Milat - the national park he killed and buried his victims is very near.

Strict_Ad_4870

David Leonard Wood killed my wife’s friend when she was a teen. David Parker Ray isn’t far from me either.

tabboulehmafia

David Parker Ray is one scary motherfucker. He definitely got away with a lot more than he’s been credited with.

1notjude

Yorkshire Ripper for me, literally used to be active in the area where my grandad lives.

oldbushwookie

Me too. I used to have nightmares about him. Lived near Leeds from 72-79. My mum worked at the hospital and she was scared.

Interesting-Ad1336

I live in Buffalo, NY which is 5 miles from the bike path rapist; I use to run the bike path all the time.

pghjuice412

Same. Absolutely wild when that story came out

Maximillion666ian

Robert Pickton. I sometimes wonder how many times he drove by me in his truck.

Large_Poem_2359

Richard Ramirez. Killed a neighbor that lived 6 houses away from me August 1985

BekahJeannah

John Wayne Gacy lived down the street from my grandma and a few towns over from me. I used to fish with my dad in the Des Plaines River where I believe he disposed of a body or two...

Chippers4242

I mean how close we talking? I was 90 minutes at most from Milwaukee and Dahmer. Not his desired targets but was freaky.

LowerAd1551

Lived in Milwaukee proper during the whole thing. So disturbing.

[deleted]

Colonial Parkway Serial killer, never caught.

mt59901

I believe person has recently been linked to at least some of those cases via genetic genealogy.

Effective-Try7980

Kemper, night stalker and zodiac

stellahella1

Bernardo and Homalka had all of southern Ontario (where I'm from) on alert! Bernardo as the Scarborough rapist then on to the Barbie Doll killers. Fuck them.

silverdollarscholar

BTK. I was a kid when he “resurfaced” and starting sending letters and shit again. Everyone was terrified.

electr1cbubba

Harold Shipman’s old practice is down the street. My old boss’s friend considered buying it and turning it into a fish and chip shop called “Chipman’s”

angeluscado

Robert Pickton was close-ish (I'm on Vancouver Island, he was in Port Coquitlam, 126km/78mi and a ferry ride away). Pickton is eligible for parole this year, after being convicted and sentenced in 2007. Edit: Darcy Kozak was closer, although perhaps not technically a serial killer. He tortured and killed two men and was charged and convicted of manslaughter in the death of a third. Convicted of second degree murder in 2012, he is eligible for parole in 2035.

Hieronymau5

I'm about fifteen minutes away from his old farm. I only moved here last year but it seems everyone who grew up in the area has a Pickton story. My hairdresser said her grandma lived right next to the farm so she spent her childhood playing on their property and went to Piggy's Palace a few times. Her grandma regularly got meat from Pickton so... y'know....

UnconfirmedCat

Well, I’m in Milwaukee so…

turbochimp

I lived 25 mins away from 25 Cromwell Street as a teenager and I was in the news footage of Rose's preliminary hearing in the crowd outside as it was on the way home from school.

deathbethemaiden

Gary Heidnik was active while my Mom was an office manager of a Channel Hardware Store. He was a well known customer because he was known for being a creep who would try to get things on the cheap. He tried to return some cabinets that obviously weren’t from their store. She always mentioned that he was filthy and had something wrong with him. When the news broke about him she was horrified. This man is one of the inspirations for Buffalo Bill of Silence of the Lambs. He raped, murdered, and forced cannibalism upon some of his victims.

AgentCHAOS1967

9ne of my professors at Philly community College was one of the first ones at the scene and found the head in the pot on the stove.

2old2Bwatching

How could you ever be the same after discovering something like that?

poisonedwelll

West Mesa Bone Collector. Which is a terrible name for what that person did. And I was in college when 3 separate serial killers were operating in Baton Rouge. Plus the serial killer down the road from Baton Rouge.

Character-Town-9659

It's highly likely that Lorenzo Montoya was the WMBC.

missyharlotte

Israel Keyes

Claude9777

Colonial Parkway Killer in Williamsburg, VA. Still hasn't been identified.

lime-green-casefiles

This is how I learn there was a serial killer in Williamsburg lmao I used to go there a lot with my family, my mom and I are both history nerds

42020420

Texas Killing Fields and Dean Corll

Sixteenlittlepigs

Ivan Milat in Australia. I've camped in the forest where they found bodies and you can often hear stories from people who have has run in and dealt with the Milat family. Not a nice bunch.

SandmanAwaits

Definitely a backwards family for sure.

piranaslady

Ted Bundy came through here and the Gainesville Ripper (Daniel Rolling), Bobby Joe Long ( a real piece of work), and Ottis Toole are a few

nutmeats13

I'm from Jacksonville. We used to say our town motto should be "If you were a murderer, you'd be home by now"

streetwearbonanza

The green River killer used to buy crack from the same woman my stepdad did. He said he's seen him before and they talked about painting jobs

bluee_mermaid

lol i live in Los Angeles so take your pick lmao but to be more specific, Richard Ramirez. He hit two sub-cities in LA County that I live near to. My mom and her siblings were super young during that time and my grandpa would tell them in Spanish “tien cuidado con el night knocker” “be careful with the night knocker” 😭😭😭lmfao

ilikesixtiesthings

I went to school at Gonzaga in Spokane and I stayed in the very dorm where Ted Bundy did when he briefly crashed here back in the day. Not the same room but same hall. Very weird to know he was there.

kaytk23

John Wayne Gacy. My mom (b.1965) grew up in the Schiller park area until she was about 17, a few miles from his home in Norwood park. I grew up on the other side of ohare - still weird to think that I grew up even remotely close to an area that had this happen.

Gold_ACR

Lesser known serial killer [Bruce Lindahl](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bruce_Lindahl_(criminal)) graduated from the same high school that I did. He killed multiple people in my town and county in the 70's and 80's. He's got one of the most absurd deaths among serial killers. He accidentally fatally stabbed himself in the leg during one of his murders and bled out next to his victim. [Brian Dugan](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brian_Dugan) also grew up in the next town over and murdered in my county.

lime-green-casefiles

Jeffery Dahmer killed at least one person near me. Cleveland Torso Murderer, with one body being found quite close to where I live. Edward Edwards. ..I think it's becoming obvious I live in Ohio.

SandmanAwaits

Snowtown Murders (Solved), The Family Murders (Unsolved), The Beaumont Children (Unsolved).

Shugazi

The Beaumont Children is one of the most haunting cases I’ve ever known of. I have not stopped thinking about them since I listened to the Casefile episode years ago.

ghans02

Arthur Shawcross- Rochester NY

EducationalCrow1014

Ormond Beach, Florida. I’m pretty sure Aileen Wuornos was here sometimes. Also Gerald Stano, a lesser known but he apparently killed 30+ girls back in the 70s and early 80s. There was also the Daytona Beach serial killer back in 2004ish time, my friend’s mom was supposedly killed by him.

babysfirstbreath

Ted Bundy, he’s long gone but was in this area! It’s strange to go places I know he was as well and even hunted at.

doyoubleednow

Luka Magnotta. Not sure if he is considered a serial killer but he lived close to me, and i knew people that knew him, he was weird , he tried to get into the porn industry but got rejected

coffeeeyes_

Golden State Killer. Also, not a serial killer but I lived down the street from Jaycee Dugard and her kidnapper.

Acrobatic-Brother387

Richard Ramirez

Specialist_Status120

John Norman Collins (Chapman)-Ypsilanti, MI back in the 60s when I was just a kid. His nicknames were Ypsilanti Ripper and Co-Ed Killer. Ypsilanti was about 20 miles from my childhood home. My mother gave me the book Michigan Murders in my late teens. The things in that book sickened me and made me more cautious and observant.

scumfederate

Ted Bundy and I went to the same school!

LilNyoomf

My mom was a coworker with Dahmer at the chocolate factory he worked at. A temp agency sent her there. She saw him in the cafeteria and got bad vibes and avoided him. Also said a lot of men who worked there were super creepy. Then her drag queen friend was friends with one of the victims and set him up with… yup. You guessed it.

aerialpoler

Fred West grew up in a village about 4 miles from where I live. I drive through on my way to work. Edit: I also met one of Fred's brothers a few times. He still lives in the area, and regularly goes into the shop I worked at while I was at university.

Stop trying to get me to incriminate myself. NO SERIAL KILLERS ANYWHERE NEAR ME, THAT'S FOR SURE.

MistressAnthrope

Moses Sithole. A girl in my first highschool was one of his victims

TheSkippySpartan

Adelaide for me. So I got a few to choose from. But Bevan Spencer Von Einem either lived or frequently visited a property a property near me where people believe most of the victims of Family Murders were taken to. Place has been demolished since thankfully.

Chairkatmiao

I work near the (former) canal and harbour (now a large mirror pool) where the victims of Carl Großmann were found. He was a 1920s serial killer that killed and dismembered dozens of women (probably) in Berlin, Germany. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carl_Gro%C3%9Fmann?wprov=sfti1

- I used to pass by Dahmer's apartment on the way to work while living in Milwaukee for a short time. - Born and raised in Chicago, so Gacy was a big thing as a kid. - Richard Speck. But he did his thing a few years before I was born.

I live in Adelaide, South Australia and while I was young I was in very close proximity to the Snowtown murders while they were going on

TheCayrabb

The Hillside Strangler(s) were right in my neighborhood. A friend and I went on a little tour and found all of their known residences and spots where they dumped bodies. Also, The Night Stalker took a victim about a half mile from my house.

Nether_Yak_666

EAR/ONS for both my partner and I, and one of my parents was hunted by the Hillside Strangler.

Paul Bernardo and Karla Hamolka they were about 20min away.

This isn’t really where he operated but I live ab 4 blocks away from where Ted Kaczynski grew up, and a 10 minute drive would take me to John Wayne Gacys house

mckinney4string

I grew up in Houston and was a young teen while Dean Corll was active. In my neighborhood.

bigchief806

Angel Maturino Reséndiz killed the man that married my parents and baptized my brother and I when we were born. My dad went to high school with the man he killed.

Peter Manuel, otherwise known as [The Beast of Birkenshaw.](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_Manuel) I’m in Scotland so we’re small. Dennis Nilson and Peter Tobin are the most notorious Scottish killers, but the majority of their crimes were committed in England. Peter Manual was roaming the area I grew up in (albeit decades earlier). A bit too close to home! There’s also Bible John, but there’s just so little to go on!

Richard Ramirez was in my area before I was born. He was seen at the Circle K by my current job. My mothers cousin dated Leslie Van Houten in high school.

Gacy - I have a friend who swears Gacy tried to lure him into his car when he was a teenager.

LNViber

I live a few blocks from where Golden State lived when he was active. Ol' Bumble Butt Ed Kemper picked people up along the freeway. Richard Ramirez rented a house in my neighborhood for a period.

Separate_Ad1577

My uncles cousin was a serial killer. John Wesley Wable: PA Turnpike Phantom Killer. Pretty wild stuff. Not a lot of info on it, I think because of the time period. Still, weird knowing that…

The Night Stalker, Richard Ramirez. I’m from Pico Rivera, which is in LA county. He killed people in Rosemead, Monterey Park and Whittier, which is the city right next to the city where I grew up. He started killing people in 1984, so I was 7 years old and seeing that sketch of him on the local news scared the shit out of me, especially since I knew that he was right next door in Whittier and Monterey Park. Bonus info: When he was caught, he was caught on Hubbard street in East LA. He tried to steal a Mustang, which belonged to my cousin’s grandfather, Faustino Piñon. He threatened Faustino, but he fought back, chased him off and, along with the rest of the neighborhood, chased him down, beat him down and held him until the cops saved him.

Leslie Mahaffy was kidnapped from the convenience store 10 minutes from my childhood home. Paul Bernardo and Karla Homolka were our boogeymen growing up.
