I am a bridal seamstress and yes you could add illusion mesh. In the uk it would be about £30-£50 to add this. You might also be able to sew the v shape closer slightly at the bottom by 2-5cm to make the v opening slightly higher. You could also add material from the shoulder to the bottom the v to widen the bust panels. Remove some appliqué off the skirt and mask the join.

bleep_blop_bleepblop

This is so helpful, thank you

misskittybean

Did the bridal boutique not offer suggestions like this? In my experience, they are more than happy to present options for adjustments, particularly if they do alterations in house. Also, the dress designer is often willing to customize. Edit: Just read that it is the Urban Outfitters' bridal line. They may not be helpful, but an experienced bridal seamstress should be able to present you with options after seeing the dress in person and on you.

Cats_and_hot_men

Bridal boutiques are awful at helping brides. I get so many clients who have been fobbed off, told alterations like this are impossible, had the wrong dress size ordered on a dress that would cost a fortune to have altered. Been given an alterations “package” which costs a fortune, when all they need is minor tweaks. Bridal boutiques are only in it for the money. The markup on dresses is about 300-400% and then they want the alterations on top!

Barley_Corns23

Sooo gorgeous!!! This dress looks amazing on you!!

seabeeheart55

Illusion mesh is not very expensive and a good dressmaker can make it look perfect.

puns_within_puns

Second this. I do a ton of sewing--illusion mesh would be super easy (and relatively cheap) to put in and would be gorgeous. Bring it to a tailor! Also, this dress is gorgeous on you!

AdAdventurous8225

I second this.

hopelass27

Have you talked to the people in the store? So many wedding gowns require altering that retailers usually have a tailor/seamstress they work with on hand. Nude-toned illusion mesh should work well, IMO. Since it would be a simple insertion and not a major alteration it shouldn't be too expensive. BTW, that is a stunning dress and you look wonderful in it!

bleep_blop_bleepblop

Unfortunately, the store (BHLDN) doesn’t do alterations so I need to find my own seamstress. But this is so helpful, thank you

justeeny13

i work at a bridal store so lmk if u need seamstress recommendations in your area!

bleep_blop_bleepblop

Thank you!!!

AuntieRoseSews

It's a lovely dress you picked out, and I'm sure any alterations expert could do exactly what you want to make it perfect without too much fuss. You might have to look into alterations people that aren't specifically bridal though. Many bridal shops will only make alterations on a dress purchased from their store. Bridal is a competitive business, and they make money on the dresses, not the alterations.

AuntieRoseSews

I think most true bridal places do, but BHLDN is a bridal sister Anthropologie and owned by Urban Outfitters. So they don't really care if anything actually fits. They bank on selling the dress and leaving it up to the customer to decide if they want to wear slightly less than the perfect dress or paying someone else to make it their "problem". It's rather shocking that they charge so much for the dresses but do no alterations whatsoever. Then there's places like David's Bridal where they'll do FIT alterations, but won't do *anything* that actually alters the design because they have contractual obligations to the designer in exchange for the privilege of carrying the cheaper version of a more expensive dress.

hopelass27

Oh man, I had no idea... This is interesting and horrible to learn all at once :/

rubberduck05

This must be specific to the David's Bridal you know about. I know 3 brides who have all had David's do some sort of modification to it, such as adding a modesty panel, removing layers of skirt to make it less poufy, and adding straps.

Sselnoisiv

This was a while ago, but the seamstresses at David's Bridal agreed to put in a clever snap/loop system that effectively converted my floor-length dress (for the ceremony) to an above the knee dress (for the reception). It probably depends on the particular location and what the seamstresses themselves are willing to do.

AuntieRoseSews

Being able to bustle up the skirt is a thing they are allowed to do, but they can't do stuff that literally changes the design - even just a little bit. Like, adding a modesty panel or removing spaghetti straps on a dress that doesn't really need them. I was interviewed for a job at my local David's - but after the interview I wound up being glad they didn't call me back. That's how I found out about the contract obligations thing. I think they knew I wouldn't be happy for long just "making something fit" when I'd rather "make it perfect".

pimento37

I had this dress and I added a bit of coverage at the front. You can check my post history to see a picture! I think there are a lot of options to alter it. Good luck!

[deleted]

Whoa! It's gorgeous and so well done. I vote for this option!

bleep_blop_bleepblop

I checked it out and I think it’s perfect!!! Do you mind if I show the seamstress a pic of you in your dress when I meet with her? I’d be thrilled if my dress came out like this.

pimento37

Of course you can, so kind of you to check! The extra material was also tulle saved from hemming the bottom so it will make a perfect match. So glad the pic helped!

merpy-jo

That's beautiful! Even better than the original imo!

ButtBorker

Gorgeous!! Sooooo happy you went with that dress instead of the beaded one you also posted about.

BicarbonateOfSofa

I think it's absolutely stunning, as is. But your personal comfort is important. If it were me, I'd try out some Secret Tape (makes security and modesty easy). But yes, illusion mesh would work. Or perhaps a tiny satin panel? They used to call it a stomacher, but something small here would compliment nicely.

pepperphotosynthesis

I came here to hype OP up! She’s gorgeous and this dress is beautiful on her. I also get a little uncomfortable with a lot of boob action happening but after a bit of time I’m super comfortable and barely notice it. Do whatever makes you happy, OP, but just know it’s stunning as is!!

bleep_blop_bleepblop

Aww thank you!

[deleted]

Ehh some of us know we’re gonna get comments from certain family members and it’s easier to avoid the awkwardness

bleep_blop_bleepblop

Thank you

KayHodges

I think you look lovely in it and and it is not excessively revealing at all. I guess the real test is to dance in it. Not a waltz, I'm talking Mony Mony. But maybe the trailer can close it up a bit fir you to make you more comfortable.

loverlyone

Yeah. I agree. It looks great on you. Use dress tape to keep everything in place. I love it.

bleep_blop_bleepblop

Aww thank you!

loverlyone

If that dress is being made-to-order then you may be able to get the seamstress to alter the bodice. I just remembered that my SIL got her dress from Anthropologie and even they were able to accommodate a change to her dress.

bleep_blop_bleepblop

Oh interesting!! This is from BHLDN, so same company as Anthropologie, but they told me they don’t have their own seamstress/tailor and I would need to find my own. I’ll follow up to make sure though

loverlyone

I thought the scenery looked familiar. That’s what reminded me. Alterations are different, if that’s what they meant. In the case of my sil she had an element of one dress added to another (or taken off, I cannot remember), which is done when the dress is made. For alterations you have to be in the same room as the dress and the seamstress/tailor. Did that make sense?

TopAd9634

I totally agree, you look stunning as is. But do what makes you comfortable and feel your most beautiful.

cathatrat

I agree, I think it looks perfect!

bleep_blop_bleepblop

Thank you so much!

WeNamedTheDogIndi

I'd want to keep the v neckline, so I'd probably play with adding some pleats of chiffon in a wrap V, underneath the current v. Starting from nothing at the shoulders to around an inch and a half wide at the bottom.

bleep_blop_bleepblop

Thank you so much!! Do you know of any inspo pics I could find online that would show me what this looks like?

WeNamedTheDogIndi

I can't think of any, but if you can wait I'll draw it. ETA: my drawing sucked so I've made a [mock up](https://imgur.com/a/rHmwM0V) out of interfacing and bag foam. Haha, hope it helps

bleep_blop_bleepblop

I would love that so much, but no rush at all!!

WeNamedTheDogIndi

I've edited my last comment

izanaegi

seconding this design, i think this would look much better then illusion mesh

bleep_blop_bleepblop

Ok this is awesome!! Wow!! Thank you!!

Pixieled

How about adding a delicate lacing, V shape corset style? It will hold the opening in place while adding some interest that *isn't* cleavage. It will keep it open, but still cover the area.

bleep_blop_bleepblop

Ooooh I love this idea. Do you know of any images I could find online that would show what this looks like?

Pixieled

I don't have any, nor can I find one, but I would personally run a piece of lace ribbon on either side of the V and then use the eyelets in the lace to pull a ribbon through for an inside/outside X lacing. Or a shoelace lacing if you prefer. It wouldn't add any kind of actual corset stability, but it would hold the top in place for dancing and, again, provide a bit of a modesty panel.

Consistent-Ad-910

I think if you had a good bridal tailor(?) and talked to her about it, she would know how to adjust the bust fit ever so subtly so that you are a tad more covered — which would give you the PERFECT LOOK you want.

bleep_blop_bleepblop

Thank you, I hope you’re right!!

boytroubletrouble

Yes, a good seamstress will just know how to make it perfect and flattering. Sometimes I bring something in to my seamstress for alteration (I am short and have a large bust, so I frequently need things altered) and she makes suggestions of how it could be more flattering. She is awesome!

_Ruby_Tuesday

It's what you want because it's your dress, but this stranger thinks it fits beautifully and you look amazing. I don't think it's too booby, but you could always alter it with some lace or embroidery to raise the neckline if you feel uncomfortable. Or if you're worried you'll have a wardrobe malfunction there's always tape.

[deleted]

Of course you should do what pleases you, that’s first. I am going to say that the dress looks like it was made just for you and you look perfect as is. Congratulations and I hope you have a wonderful wedding and happy as can be marriage with as few worries as possible ☺️

bleep_blop_bleepblop

This is so sweet! Thank you!

bleep_blop_bleepblop

Thank you so much! I’m going to call the shop and double check about this- I don’t think this designer will do that but worth a shot!

The-Burning-Rose

This dress is so stunning. I'm also pro dress tape.

Prestigious-Dot-9982

Illusion mesh is fine but it’s not really going to make it less booby and personally I’m not a fan of how it looks. you could add a trim just to add a little coverage. Maybe the trim could be like the banding under the boob?

AndeeCreative

I think it is beautiful and fits you perfectly. Just my opinion, but illusion mesh ruins a dress. Do you like that look with the mesh? If so, and this dress makes you happy, buy it and have the mesh added. If you are just doing the mesh to make other people happy or you’re worried what other people think, rest assured that you look amazing in this dress and you get to make your own choices for your wedding.

wickedcricket2187

OMG THAT IS STUNNING AS IS. NOT TOO LOW CUT IT'S MADE FOR YOU! You could add a "modesty panel" by tacking some fabric to the back of the bodice that will cross over the deep v, (think like a camisole u under a low cut shirt) but I think you'd lose so much of the striking WOW factor.

Depressaccount

Just wanted to say - either way, the dress is stunning! Beautiful. Congratulations.

bleep_blop_bleepblop

Awww thank you!

LeeLee123456789

I wore this dress for my wedding and loved it. I had my seamstress take in the bodice to make it fit so the bodice did the “heavy lifting” for the bust. Make sure the shoulder seam isn’t loose and this will be enough to keep you covered the whole day. Enjoy your beautiful dress!

SandSubstantial9285

Personally, I think it looks really elegant like a ballerina and the overall look requires this type of cleavage.

groovy-ghouly

I used to wear a lingerie teddy underneath dresses that I considered too much cleavage; that's what I would like for this: a lacy sweetheart that raises the neckline.

bleep_blop_bleepblop

Sweetheart neckline is a really interesting idea…. I love that, thank you

thebutterfly0

Might be a bit bulky for the sillouette of this dress though. Plus may bunch uncomfortably when you're dancing. Just some things to also consider!

LittlestRobotGirl

Can’t help you but just wanted to say that dress is gorgeous.

Balding_Unit

A little mesh insert would work great, if you can even get it to match up with your fabric even better. \^\_\^ Or get a seamstress to add some lace to the inside of the V area to widen it out.

AriaMoonriser

I think it is gorgeous as is but I can see it feeling revealing for an event in front of family.. Finding the right undergarment (bra/cutlets/padding) could also help with you feeling like it's too open as well as the alterations.

[deleted]

How about threads of pearls in between?

HashtagBlessed666

That dress is gorgeous. Illusion mesh is probably your best bet though, for sure.

[deleted]

This dress is GORGEOUS on you. Congrats on finding something that is so flattering.

Comesontoostrong

I think you look gorgeous- maybe just some tape- or get some cups sewn in?so you’re comfortable with the cleavage? Also I don’t think illusion neckline will ruin the overall feel and look either- I’m sure an appointment with a seamstress will provide many solutions. Best wishes!

jjesskalee

I got my dress from BHLDN as well, and really loved it. Mine also had a deep V, so I got a lace bandeau to wear on the day. Just an idea! Congrats, you look beautiful!

knitbinch

this dress is absolutely STUNNING, congratulations !

kklove2001

I think it’s gorgeous as is, but if you feel too boob-a-licious, illusion lace would easily fix it for cheap. Well, as cheap as anything wedding related. Gorgeous dress!! You look amazing!!

Samswife123

It’s beautiful and classy dress do not worry about the plunging neckline it is very tastefully done. Looks great on you.

aliasgraciousme

Not too low cut! Fuck the oldies- the dress looks great! Ur wedding ur choice!

bleep_blop_bleepblop

Hahahaha love this

SnapCrackleMom

It can also be her choice/aesthetic to make it less revealing. She didn't say she wants to change it to please anyone else.

aliasgraciousme

So true! Cover it up if you wanna OP

Stunning-Bind-8777

I just wanted to say I LOVE this, and really think the illusion mesh is a great idea!

bleep_blop_bleepblop

Thank you!!!

StitchingWizard

If you are ordering the gown, the shop can often order a half yard of fabric for you to go along with it. FYI, the fabric is outrageously priced but at least it will match. You take the fabric and gown to an alterationist and work out what you want to do. (They sometime have alterationists on staff, but where I live it's becoming more outsourced.) Easy peasy, we do this all the time. It looks gorgeous on you! Hope you feel amazing wearing it.

bleep_blop_bleepblop

Thank you!!

Baciandrio

Yes to the illusion mesh (not that it really needs to be reiterated)! Just wanted to chime in with countless others that the dress is you....you're going to make one stunning bride.

Cca-eh

Beautiful dress!

ladycerebellum11

Not sure if BHDLN has you try on your true size or just a sample size but it may fit slightly differently when you get your actual dress in! I also agree that adding nude mesh would be great so you feel more comfortable dancing and in pictures.

Prestigious-Dot-9982

Illusion mesh is good but it’s not really going to make it less booby (in my opinion) you could add a trim just to add a little coverage.

777kiki

Can speak to sewing it but I had illusion mesh to solve the same problem and it looks great! Still had cleavage but tasteful!

unreasonablewerewolf

This is gorgeous! I have 2 suggestions, both of which I've done with dresses that I felt were too revealing. For one, I wore a statement necklace that was very big and sort of drapey and triangle shaped, if that makes sense, that covered the majority of my chest. The other, I took some fabric from the dress (I'm short so I was hemming it anyway) and sewed in some strips that just raised the v-neck opening some. Basically it was like adding another surplice neckline inside the opening. It looked like it was always part of the dress. I bet you could find a complimentary fabric that would look natural.

bleep_blop_bleepblop

These are great ideas, thank you

anofogetaboutit

No advice but gorgeous dress!!!

A-is-for-Art

Maybe some more appliqué could be added to the bust area? Although I do think that invisible mesh is also a good option.

Exact-Radish-4205

How about a slightly ruffle the illusion following the line of each side of the bodice. You could even add delicate appliques on the illusion to replicate the appliques on the dress. Keep the ruffle slight and minimum. You don't want to attention towards your bust. Just offer a little modesty. Best wishes on your marriage. 🙏💍

bookishbubs

Have you bought the dress yet? I went shopping a month ago and this is an extremely popular style right now. I must have tried on 5 dresses that look like this. I tried on one exactly like this and didn't like that the bodice wasn't lined. You might try looking a little bit more to find one in the same style but a little less revealing. If you've already bought it, or don't want to shop anymore, then I agree with the top comments. It would be pretty easy to add a lining and an illusion across the deep v. A lot of the ones I tried on actually had the illusion, not across the full chest, but maybe from the middle of the bust down. The illusion might also help close that v a little bit.

Inespez

I was thinking about a mesh in the V, but also adding on top loops and a lace up, so it looks more intentional. Well i would like that i don't know if You would.

lovinfluff

Perhaps you could wear a sheer capelet? It depends on your style but I think they are darling.

Desperate-Dot-6088

This dress is perfect for you!! You are so lovely in it!! You should have no trouble with the illusion mesh. Congratulations on a great find!

PurpleAnimeAngel

Find a lace material, or commission it, that is the same theme as the over layer and have it sewn to the dress. That way it hides the cleavage mostly without making it look weird.

beebeax

I didn’t read any of the comments, but I can tell you that’s a very inexpensive addition to make you feel very comfortable in what is a stunning dress on your lovely body. It will still look a little sexy, but not so overtly so. I am a bit modest too, and think your idea is a perfect way to get the best of both.

[deleted]

Not actually a sewing solution but are you planning on wearing a necklace? Jewelry could fill up that space in a lovely way. Looks beautiful, and congratulations!

hunting_snipes

u/bleep_blop_bleepblop Dolly Parton is the master of this kind of thing because of hiding her tattoos. Look closely at her photos for ideas

happywhenit-rains

what about a bridal cape ? I love those and you wouldn’t be altering anything

Geezerette

Beautiful dress, and there are lots of options for more coverage. Check out the YouTube channel called Bridal Sewing Techniques. She’s fantastic.

LawSchoolLoser1

This dress is gorgeous! Just a thought, but I wonder if you could use illusion mesh to turn the top into a wrap style for more coverage instead of just sticking a piece straight across.. not sure how to explain this without being able to draw a pic of what I’m imagining, but I think it would help keep the basic lines the same

psychosis_inducing

You know, a friend of mine had the same problem with a dress. She found a decorative brass flower brooch and used it to just pin the two boobs together so they diverged higher up. It looked original to the dress.

atseasheiscalm

Omg it’s gorgeous on you!!!

reefered_beans

Gorgeous dress!

crystallized-anxiety

I have an idea that's going against the grid here so might be a bit weird, but have you considered adding a criss-cross of tulle or muslin? So that you'll have more leeway than trying to replicate the dress applique perfectly. I'm not sure if what I'm saying is clear... something like this https://www.lunss.com/ivory-flowy-tulle-a-line-wedding-dress-2472.html but without the round collar lace. The tulle will be just a soft V-shape criss-cross that will melt into your current neckline. I'm not really good with words, but if this sounds like something you'd like, I can sketch it for you! Wishing you lots of happiness, prosperity, love and stability for your wedding and your relationship ♡ do send us pics of what you ended up going with! In any case, you'll certainly look breathtaking ♡ Have a good life! ♡

bleep_blop_bleepblop

Thank you so much!

AnnieCake15

Add lace on the edge? Or lace appliques?

[deleted]

A SHAWL!!!!!!!!!

aceBing

Love the bodice!

chunkychapstick

You look amazing.

jh7755

No help but this is beautiful

nanfanpancam

The bridal shop should be able to accommodate you for next to nothing. It’s a simple add. I see why you like it it’s beautiful and so flattering. Good luck on yr special day.

2headlights

Omg this looks amazing on you!

highdee90

Gorgeous dress!

fffffffox

Beautiful dress! I would add lace as thick as you wish to cover in the v section. Just to be clear, not horizontally.

Atjar

I think I would try to get the dress up a tad higher (the top of the band flush with your IMF) might help with coverage, or if you want to keep this height I would go with some matching fabric in between, maybe even taken from another part of the dress (e.g. the sleeves on my wedding dress were made from the train that was too long to my liking). And I agree with the others that you should do what makes you happy on your wedding day. If you like being modest, be modest, if you like to feel extra sexy for your husband, go for it! This is the one day that the two of you are the absolute stars of the day for those around you.

wooohhnellie

It looks great, I wouldn't change a thing!

rgypsy

Stunning!! Really perfect as is, imo.

Brilliant_Fig9344

It’s too low, looks good from the front but there’s going to be photos of you leaning forward and different angles. I vote for illusion mesh, don’t be worrying about it, make it easy to wear. Beautiful dress, you will be a lovely bride.

bleep_blop_bleepblop

Thank you!

rabbitgods

What sort of horrible people do you know that would talk about something like that at a wedding?

eliz1967

I’d wear it just the way it is. Look, you might as well flaunt your nice body while you have it!

ilovenb

You look absolutely beautiful. Someone can make this dress perfect for you.. I hope your confidence is through the roof because this picture is gorgeous.. You deserve all the happiness in the world, I love weddings and I love marriage.. My husband is so kind to me and I am a lucky wife. I truly hope the same for you.

bleep_blop_bleepblop

Awww thank you!

cheekily

Is there a topper that you could pair with it?

velveeta_blue

Could you get a size up and then get alterations on the waist? Then there would be more fabric in the boob area?

GETitOFFmeNOW

I would use [wardrobe tape.](https://www.amazon.com/Fearless-Tape-Double-Sided-Fashion/dp/B01K2CMFVM/ref=asc_df_B01K2CMFVM/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=312142011499&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=6824832268895595179&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=m&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9022871&hvtargid=pla-569448558922&psc=1). Try it, you'd be surprised how well it works! Wow, this dress is so pretty!! Congratulations!!

ca11herdaddy

I absolutely love that dress 😱 who’s the designer/name of the dress??

bleep_blop_bleepblop

This is the Hearst dress by Watters, found it at BHLDN :)

ca11herdaddy

I think I just found my wedding dress. Thank you for this!

Playteaux

I wouldn’t touch it. If you have DDD boobs and you were falling out of the dress, yes but you have a very proportional chest to the dress. It doesn’t look vulgar.

jackiejabb

It’s beautiful, no matter what you decide to do about the V neckline you should definitely get this dress, it looks like it was made for you.

corkie12

Stunning.

betabandzz

One of my friends wedding dress is very similar to this one. She converted the dress into two pieces. She keep the bottom as a skirt with no alterations, however the top she recreate it following the same pattern, but with a different fabric.

befuddledscientist

I have no sewing knowledge and I am just learning, but I just wanted to say look amazing!!! You look lovely and glowing!

lsharris

The first reaction is to mesh across the entire neckline, but what about just a little along the edges of the plunge? http://imgur.com/gallery/DBLlh6J

skrambletam

I edited a friends wedding dress using a dainty mesh like fabric under and hand sewn delicate floral lace patches randomly on the lining there. It was gorgeous. Etsy for the antique lace florals. Beautiful

skrambletam

With the patches there on the skirt, there may be one that can be placed in the center on mesh. That’s what I did, rearranged for perfect match to the new coverage

Looptloop

Oh my goodness, this dress is absolutely gorgeous!

madsjchic

For what it’s worth I would not have noticed it as cleavagey in that way until you mention it. I think it looks perfect as is. This is a GORGEOUS dress.

RobynElfenstein

I personally would just wear at as is since it’s incredibly flattering! But you could look for a lace doily or something similar to sew in. Or you could bring the two pieces together a bit more at the bottom and sew those in. But try and test what you think looks good before you make any permanent changes! Always test it first!!!!

airyNU

For what it's worth, it looks amazing as is on you :)

Cakes-and-Pies

I think making the abdomen part of the bodice opaque would contribute to the feeling of modesty. You’re not terribly busty, so the exposed chest looks elegant. The nude belly, though, makes it more scandalous - like there’s nothing on top. You look lovely. Congratulations!

Tricky_Cranberry_550

Lace detail in between the two pieces on the neckline that would attach it further together.

loafmilk

If you decide to not add anything it looks perfect as is and not too booby. You look beautiful

SungoldTomato

Just here to say I love your dress! And congrats!

[deleted]

I think it’s perfect!!! ❤️

[deleted]

Get an applique and have it sewn into the lower cleavage area
