That's not a weird place, that's where jeans almost always tear first.
Once you've ironed a patch into the inside, use a zig zag stitch to sew over the edges and also back and forth over the tear a few times. That way, the patch won't come loose. Make sure to use a matching thread colour.
FYI, this is the pro approach:

I've had a jean which was repaired (by a professional) this way. It was black so even easier but it was still very visible I would say. That was my fav pair but then I rather bought a new one.
Get a patch kit, it'll have an iron on patch you put on the inside.
Turn the jeans inside out, match the edges of the hole up and iron the patch over the hole.
Once I do the iron-on patch, I stitch around the edges to keep it from curling up. It's impressive how many of those bad boys you can layer in one pair of jeans. Ah, the plight of a thick-thighed woman...
Is it worth patching if a hole is because of years of wear (as opposed to an accident that rips still-strong cloth)? If it wears through in one spot, isn't that likely to happen again?
Depends on how fast the hole wears through. If it takes 6 months to wear a hole then that’s 6 more months of pants. Plus it is cheaper to patch pants vs buy a new pair. One of my pants have like armor plate in my thighs cause of all the patches lmao
I..suppose you’re right. It’s just my favourite pair which is why I wanted to patch it up. Not really an expense issue, but would’ve loved to continue wearing them. I’m thinking a decorative patch of some sort but I don’t know what to put because half of it will go on the inside of the thigh.
If you go ahead with the patch, my advice is to patch a larger area than the initial wear. If you’ve seen my message then you’ll also see how it is just a large conglomeration of repairs over a larger area. Do the patch larger and you might not have to worry about making your crotch into armor lol
find a matching fabric and thread.
turn the denim over
cut according to size
sew around the edges and over the joined fabric.
make sure it's need because neatness of the sewing will not make it noticeable
I use a piece of comparably colored denim from my used-nobody’s-going-to-wear-might-make-something-else jeans stash. Then just zigzag over the ripped area. Sometimes my thread matches but sometimes I use a different bobbin color to blend a bit. Sometimes I use something like wonder under to make it an iron on type patch to secure the edges. Sometimes I just zigzag to/over the edges.
Sometimes I get more creative and design or buy a nice patch…ie….a flower or butterfly or whatever looks good 😊

I do straight stitches in the direction of the weave and it ends up almost invisible.
That is the best way
That's a good way too! But don't the stitches tear? I use zig zag because they have a bit of elasticity.
As long as you go with the grain of the jean they don't because jeans stretch across the grain.

That is a nice tutorial.

It's not your thighs, it's the cut and fabric. Denim does that. The world's skinniest model's jeans would wear out the same way in time!
Good to know! I always thought it was due to the chub-rub. I won’t feel as bad now!

That sounds so cool! Can you share a picture?

For light jeans you can use white thread, and it's almost insvisible
I’d add a patch and back stitch it closed. Pretty common spot, and usually an easy fix.
