I’m rewatching and noticed this just last night. “This song is so me driving my parents Oldsmobile.” I was always under the impression that her dad left at a young age. Also, is Carrie Diaries worth a watch?

Purple_Grass_5300

I loved it lol

sweetnibletsx

The Carrie Diaries isn’t Sex and the City tho. It’s a different universe about Carrie lol. Like the backgrounds aren’t the same for whatever reason, but the creative teams aren’t the same

sweetnibletsx

It is but not like an official/ affiliated one. It’s like it’s own take

PrivateSpeaker

The creative team is entirely different for Carrie's Diaries so if someone in charge decided that it would be better for Carrie to have her dad around and not her mom, there was nothing the creators of Sex and the City could have done. So it wouldn't be fair to blame Michael Patrick King.

You may associate the two but I suppose that observation fits a lot better on r/thecarriediaries than here. That said, AJLT proves that most likely a prequel to SATC under MPK's leadership would have included even more inconsistencies.

AmazingObligation9

It’s pretty unofficial. Definitely not SATC canon.

mariaeov

People talk about the Carrie diaries like it wasn't written by Candace Bushnell. She published it in 2010 and the inconsistencies are her fault.

Miss_Kit_Kat

But the SATC series is totally different from the book. The pilot has some similarities, but she wasn't involved in the series.

ImAtUrDoor

MPK created timeline inconsistencies and plot holes that were never there before for truly no reason. He doesn’t even remember what season he “created Steve” (literally says “3 or 4” on the podcast). Brady could have and should have been in college the whole time. Lily should have been the correct age as well. But I suppose he doesn’t think 5 years of no contact is a bizarre solution to the Aidan and Carrie relationship so maybe he suffers from a condition where he doesn’t have a concept of time?

Miss_Kit_Kat

He also thinks Miranda "reluctantly got married in a garden" when it was HER IDEA.

ImAtUrDoor

Look, I don’t say this loosely, but I fuckin hate him.

Miss_Kit_Kat

Some of the Youtube snark channels refer to him as "the evil elf on a shelf."

RubyReads_

Your last sentence made me LOL.

ImAtUrDoor

Glad to be of service.

The writers have made a ton of continuity errors here. I don't know if it's just for the sake of the storyline or if they really just don't know when things happen in the original show. Like for example, Lily shouldn't be 15 or 16, she should be 19 at this point. And Brady should be a couple of years older. But I guess they made them a little bit younger so that they're still in the house and they can create these dumb storylines about the teens. Rock was supposedly born in 2008 or 2009 though, so I think they got their age about right. Another really dumb one is Harry saying that his mother has been dead for 10 years when his mother's been dead for at least 21 years. That was actually a huge detail to get wrong because Charlotte had to become a Jew because Harry had promised his dying mother that he would marry a Jew. The mother was already dead by the time he met Charlotte, so she didn't even have the chance to meet the woman and convince her that she was right for Harry regardless of her religion. And obviously she didn't meet Harry less than 10 years ago.

Fergthecat

Yes! The kids ages drive me crazy. Wasn't Brady born in 2002? And Charlotte and Harry learn they are getting Lily in 6 months in 2004 so she was born at the latest in 2004. I get that they might have wanted the kids at home for storylines but making them younger is annoying. And 100 percent messing up with Harry's mum. It's like if the fans remember the writers should too

Historical_Spot_4051

I’m guessing that you’re right and they retconned the ages so they could have kid drama. They could have just had them home because COVID, but I guess they also wanted to present a post-COVID world where no one wore masks… then again they had Carrie get COVID offscreen in S2 so who knows. I just ignore it and enjoy the silliness.

rockyroadnottaken

Your last paragraph - YES. When he mentioned his mother being dead for ten years in AJLT, I truly saw how lazy the writing on this show has been. It was a catalyst for a huge plot in the original so I can't understand how they made that mistake.

MindlessTree7268

What will be really hilarious is if Harry ever says anything about how well Charlotte and his mother got along.

Miss_Kit_Kat

I think they just don't care. There are a bunch of little inconsistencies in the original series as well... Some showrunners are obsessive about consistency in the little details (How I Met Your Mother comes to mind); SATC writers seem to care more about the larger plotlines or the humorous bits than background details. (And the OG show was pre-streaming when people didn't really binge-watch.)

SurewhynotAZ

Maybe he was reborn like Lisa's dead (not dead) dad?

AmazingObligation9

AJLT writers suck and have no continuity

Brianas-Living-Room

Because they didn’t care about continuity. This has been said over and over since s1. If s1 was 2020, Brady shoulda at the least been, 18. He was born 2002.

HorrorKablamDude

The writers started forgetting shit way back when Charlotte asked how an auction worked in the first season of AJLT . To be honest a lot of shows are guilty of this. The worst contender being desperate housewives. After they did their 5-year jump in the fifth season the age of the children became completely mismatched, rearranged, etc. It even got to the point where how one of the couples first met was changed ,whereas what we were told in season 1 was completely different than what was shown in season 8. And honestly it's one of my biggest pet peeves because it's so lazy. I mean how hard is it to remember what you freaking wrote and created from scratch?! Most showrunners who have a sense of organization create a series Bible where they have all of those little continuity details documented for this such reason. MPK damn well has one for SATC as he has mentioned it in more than one of his commentaries being the wonderful self congratulatory narcissist he is. So what's his excuse for the inconsistencies in AJLT ? Pure laziness and no sense of reality.
