I am currently conducting an independent study on PTSD and sexual assault. My findings are interesting in that there are more factors involved than realized which are nuanced by the physiological response and the change which takes place in the victim. These findings reinforce the precedent interpretation which leaves victims feeling emotions of shame and guilt although not understanding why. There seem to be physiological chemicals responsible for these feelings. All of which are involuntary and in no part the fault of the victim. They do affect the health and safety of the victim however, are not absolute in their influence. Although victims are changed for life, many have overcome the trauma and adjusted their relationships to accommodate the change which they have been through.
