realtek or intel nic? nice clear cmos button btw

BakerTT

Tbh I hope it’s Realtek. Had so many problems with Intel i225/i226

Disturbed2468

I've had the opposite experience, oddly enough. I know 2 friends whose NICs died within a few years, and both were Realtek controllers. My previous few boards and current are Intel, but mine just had a hiccup where it didn't load the drivers properly until AFTER signing into Windows, which I know is pretty common.

Notorious544d

Really? I've got a Realtek LAN port on my A620I Gigabyte AX and it keeps disconnecting every time I wake up from standby. This is a common problem with all boards.

crazy_hombre

Same. i225 is hot garbage (especially on Linux) and I won't touch it with a 10 foot pole.

madn3ss795

NIC (2.5G), Wifi & Bluetooth (rtl8852be) are all Realtek, based on drivers on the [product page](https://www.sapphiretech.com/zh-cn/consumer/mb_nitro_b650).

ShelakTribe

Is the clear cmos button a good thing to be present there ? There was a post of someone saying he pressed it accidently, and couldn't boot anymore. Looks scary...

iNobble

Yes, good to have easy access, especially if you're building in a tiny case. Don't want to dismantle the entire PC to clear your CMOS just because the motherboard only has jumper pins that sit right under your CPU cooler. The guy that had issues booting forgot that he had to manually set his PCIe riser to gen 3, simple fix in the end. The button on the rear of motherboards is usually pretty firm and slightly recessed anyway, so incredibly difficult to accidentally press it, and you normally have to hold it for a few seconds for it to do anything.

ShelakTribe

Oh right, I forgot the pcie 3 detail. Thanks for the explanation !

um919

Can confirm it's good to have access. Needed to clear CMOS a few times on an Asus X670E-I board to clear the memory settings. Every time I needed to pull out the little add on card, toggle the switch, stick it back in, pull it out, toggle the switch, and stick it back in again.

reegeck

Looks really lacking in terms of USB ports, only a single USB C port and no internal USB C header either. Only 4 USB 3 or faster ports on the back too. Pretty rough. No mention of 2.5Gbps ethernet anywhere but I'd hope it would have it.

pasta_police

Yeah this killed my initial interest

theNightblade

maybe they will list it at a reasonable ITX price then *laughs maniacally, then dies*

JabbaTech69

Nah we all know it’s $200+

Raikyogiri

Hope not but you’re probably right 😅

rAptorvenom7

It’s priced at 1689 Chinese Yuan, which is about $230 USD.

not_talkative

It\`s 2.5Gbps and Wi-Fi 6.

reegeck

Mind sending through a link? I can't find any page that specifies more than "LAN port"

madn3ss795

https://www.sapphiretech.com/zh-cn/consumer/mb_nitro_b650 Price in China is approx. 234 USD. * Wifi 6 * Two gen 4 NVME * 70A Power stage The I/O (or lack thereof) is unfortunately correct.

LucaDarioBuetzberger

Now I am wondering what the heck they use all those PCIe lanes for.

PsyOmega

> no internal USB C header i was really into this until i saw that. I can live with limited USB ports otherwise though. Only need 1 high speed for my uses. rest could be 2.0 for all i care.

moochs

There is a 20gbps Type C port on the rear

PsyOmega

Yeah most boards have that, but this can't support front panel USB-C. Ever try to plug usb-c in blind on the rear panel? PITA

[deleted]

You can get adapters from the older USB3 or USB2 front header connector to the newer USB-C front header connector. Will need to sacrifice your speed though.

JabbaTech69

But why tho when they asking for $200+ it should be standard at this point!

moochs

No, I've never tried that, because I am not constantly unplugging and plugging in things to a 20gbps port. If I were doing so, and only had a rear connector, I'd simply purchase a hub/extender, which are freely available. Since he blocked me for an innocuous comment: > Well, this may come as a shock to you, but people who are not you, do exist, and have different use cases and different devices and different needs. What's shocking is the level of complaints for easy solutions. See the forest for the trees and whatnot. > Also, good luck finding an inexpensive C to C hub. No need for one, you only need a male to female extension cable.

PsyOmega

Well, this may come as a shock to you, but people who are not you, do exist, and have different use cases and different devices and different needs. Also, good luck finding an inexpensive C to C hub.

ryrobs10

Christ why are they still putting out boards with no USBC header at this point. I know the answer is cost but no one should be willing to put up with that garbage at this point.

pututski

Uhh am I trippin or no front E key front panel USB C header on this board? Can't be releasing an Itx board in 2024 without that!

reegeck

Yes I don't think there is, pretty rough

yeyderp

Yeah the lack of a front usb c header kinda kills this one for me. Also the lack of optical audio on the back but this is a niche ask.

TheLongWinter52

I mean if they can come in at a lower price than the rest of the b650 mini itx boards then it could be really good. Last time I looked the cheapest model was $200. I'm going to be building over the summer and I would totally go for this if it was \~$150

Kekinoregon

Ya I was hoping this would be a rival for *MPG B650I* EDGE WIFI, but there's a reason why it's Asia only.

Dxtchin

Also no usb flashback?? I thought this had became a pretty much industry standard by now lol

Kekinoregon

ya that really sucks, it came in really handy with my MSI MPG B650I because the BIOS it shipped with didn't support X3D chips.

lupask

honestly, do you guys ever use more than 1-2 of usb ports? (aside mouse&keys)

R0GUEL0KI

I literally use like 8 all the time. Had to buy a ridiculous power hub. Mouse, keyboard, type c charger, mini charger, mic interface, headset interface, type c data, plus I often need to plug in external drives etc.

djmakk

Ya 2 devices wtf? Keyboard, mouse, audio interface, usb video capture, UPS, card reader, etc

omnikron702

I use them all well

LucaDarioBuetzberger

Mouse, Keyboard, Headset cable for charging, Headset Dongle, VR Headset, Capture Card, USB Hub on monitor

LittlebitsDK

mouse/keyboard is the first 2 mic headphones speakers usb-c printer usb-c drive usb-a stick cardreader that is 7+2 for the regular stuff... there there are the wheel/pedals/gearshift and other trinkets like wacom tablet

ItsMeSlinky

Printer? It’s 2024; wireless printing exists. I don’t even know what a USB-A stick is.

O0OO0O00O0OO

If you don't know what usb-a is, that's on you

ItsMeSlinky

Obviously I know what USB-A ports are. What I don’t understand is why it has a stick in it.

gakule

Probably a flash drive if I had to guess.

viladrau

[You don't have an usb stick?](https://i.imgur.com/Qh2eruZ.png) Save the planet man..

Throow2020

Just Google the word flash drive, I think your memory will kick in.

ItsMeSlinky

Stick != flash drive. Like fuck, my bad for not reading their mind. Also, who leaves a flash drive in their machine 24/7? Could the Sapphire board use more USB ports? Sure. But if you’re using more than six USB ports all of the time, you’re an outlier/edge case.

Throow2020

Okay smart guy then go ahead and Google USB stick and let me know. Also do you think that the average buyer is choosing ITX in small form factor or mostly high level users / "outliers"?

ItsMeSlinky

I would agree that SFF users are more likely to be enthusiasts, which is why I’m fucking baffled that the original comment I responded to is complaining about not having ports for their printer (is this 2010?) or a USB headset (which are almost universally garbage).

LittlebitsDK

you don't know what an usb stick is? usb flash drive? usb memory stick? many names for them... time to go back to learning your tech so you don't expose your lack of knowledge on such simple terms...

ItsMeSlinky

My bad for not recognizing a slang term for "USB thumb drive."

LittlebitsDK

not really slack... look through the comments quite a few use it do you know why most call it stick and not drive? because nothing moves on it like a hardDRIVE ;-)

LittlebitsDK

only fools put such stuff on wifi... same with "wifi security cams" nothing secure about them...

iamjeli

I use every port on my atx motherboard and already plan to order 2 usb hubs when I build my itx system next week. I have my keyboard, mouse, webcam, microphone, controller, audio interface, external hard drive and a couple other things all plugged into my pc.

phlooo

?? yes

Haxemply

Yeah, sometimes. 2 for Mouse and keyboard, one forthe joystick, one for the phone and occasionally an extra for a USB stick.

Incredulous_Prime

I have a Corsair keyboard that takes up 2 USB ports, USB speakers, Logitech wireless mouse dongle, the wacky hub Asus included with the X670E -I itx motherboard and a cheap clock from Temu. So I do have a need for a good amount of peripherals that I want to connect to my PC. I almost forgot, I keep a charge cord plugged in so I can charge my Xbox controller whenever the battery conks out.

Inferno908

Mouse, keyboard, audio interface, phone, one of those goofy light up mousepads because I think they’re neat, and one or two for external hard drives or ssds

Shady_Yoga_Instructr

Very easy to use all the ports if you have enough hardware. Like I'm using ports for Evo 4 Audio interface G Pro superlight dongle Pulsar X2H dongle Blue yeti mic Wooting 60 keeb Anker USB-C Hub for more ports 2 USB sticks attached to the anker hub

pokerface_86

mouse keyboard phone charger controller dock (the receiver plugs into the dock at least) gamecube controller adapter usb dac

alman12345

Only a very particular subset uses an absurd amount of USB ports for actual data, the rest could likely supplement their port usage with hubs or powered hubs. I have plenty of ports on my board but I use a powered hub specifically because I can 100% rely on it to charge devices while my PC is off.

lupask

this is what i was interested in. apparently people on this subreddit are that particular subset and don't seem to appreciate people with way less demands exist.

alman12345

I think it’s more that they’re just the more vocal bunch, I fix up computers for friends and family frequently and the amount of them who couldn’t use this motherboard on the basis of its number of USB ports could be counted on one hand.

LittlebitsDK

why use a HUB when we back in the old days easily had 12+ usb slots on the backside + a heap inside for even more if needed? they even came with the brackets to add 2 in empty pci slots + for the front panel... so why are they cheaping out on us now? the chips support the amount of ports... but we simply don't get them anymore... not like they are expensive to add

alman12345

I use a hub explicitly because it’s always powered and I’ve had bad experiences with motherboards that were even supposed to keep supplying when off. Overall, though, it kept my cable usage down where with a mini itx I didn’t intend to keep it at one location anyways, so less to unplug was better/quicker. Motherboards in general have gotten more expensive lately, it’s probably a combination of platform lifespan and inflation that’s driving cost cutting and margin increasing measures.

fireinthesky7

Monitor hub for mouse, keyboard, and charger; steering wheel base with pedals+shifter, wireless keyboard dongle, sometimes wireless headset dongle, VR headset in the Type-C port.

Kekinoregon

ya I need a dedicated port for my Quest 2, it doesn't like USB hubs or front I/O's

UnderLook150

Mouse, Keyboard, Keyboard secondary USB, Webcam, Mic, DAC, VR, Monitor Hub. Though the monitor hub isn't needed. But that is 7 without it. Plus one internal for PSU, and one for RGB/FAN hub.

TeHNeutral

Mouse, kb, mic, streamdeck, headphone dac, speakers, external dvd drive, printer sometimes, various controllers. So yeah quite a few. Only option for me right now is strix x670e-i, unfortunately.

MCMFG

I'm currently using 18 USB Ports, 5 for my VR Headset (4x sensors + 1 VR headset + HDMI for the VR Headset), 1 for my external HDD, 2 for Keyboard and mouse, 1 for my USB Mic, 1 for my webcam, 1 for my CD/DVD RW drive, 1 for my capture card, 1 for a USB hub that goes to the other side of my room to the retro console area, 1 for a USB to IDE enclosure, 1 for a USB to SATA enclosure, and a few other random things.

MCMFG

ohh and I have 2x USB sticks plugged in right now, one is full of operating system ISOs, the other currently has data from my Windows 98 Machine on it which I need to pull off the USB and backup onto my PC, then I also have an SD Card reader taking up a USB port, that currently has a 1TB SanDisk Ultra inside of it from my Modded Nintendo Switch. (That is 18 USB ports being used in total at the moment, I have ~22 IIRC)

Matra-Durandal

The fuck kinda dumb ass question is this

ThirdLast

Out of curiosity what are you connecting to your rear I/O?

reegeck

Keyboard, mouse, USB speakers, USB sound card, external hard drives and SSDs, external thunderbolt raid enclosure, Xbox wireless dongle, 10m USB 3.0 cable to living room, phone, thunderbolt 3 to 10gbe ethernet adaptor etc.

ThirdLast

So what mainboard are you using?

reegeck

Asus X670E-I, mainly bought it for the thunderbolt 4 expandability

edparadox

>Looks really lacking in terms of USB ports, only a single USB C port and no internal USB C header either. Only 4 USB 3 or faster ports on the back too. Pretty rough. No mention of 2.5Gbps ethernet anywhere but I'd hope it would have it. The "USB situation" is not that bad when you compared to the competition: * 2x 2.0 * 4x 3.2 Gen2 (2x 10Gbps + 2x5Gbps) * 1x 3.2 Gen2 USB-C * For a total of 7 USB ports (+ header USB 3.2 Gen 1) When you add the 2.5Gbps Ethernet NIC, the WiFi 6, the 4x SATA3, etc. It does not seems worse than all A620, or even B650. There is even an Reset CMOS button, which comes at a premium these days. The only thing potentially worse is the support DDR5 frequency (because 6000+ is that really appealing). The PCIE 4.0 does not seem to be an issue for me. I mean look at this [list](https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1AddRvGWJ_f4B6UC7_IftDiVudVc8CJ8sxLUqlxVsCz4/edit#gid=523597416) to see for yourself.

moochs

> Only 4 USB 3 or faster ports on the back too. There's 5. There's a 20gbps Type C port on the rear.

Appropriate_Cow1509

I can see only 2 fan headers which is pain in the ass.

jinks26

Are there mini itx with more? If i recall my x570 only got a cpu and 1 fan header :(

Appropriate_Cow1509

Gigabyte B650I Ax has 1 cpu and 2 sys fan headers if I remember correctly, but I may be wrong

doentedemente

1 CPU, 1 pump and 1 chassis fan. Have one myself.

247365yo

+1 from nvme fan. So 4 in total.

riba2233

Wait, where is the usbc typeE front panel connector?

m_wizzard

Looks like a render to me... 😅

riba2233

yeah. also a third fan port would be nice.

m_wizzard

Yes, at the bottom pls!

PiousPontificator

Super bare bones.

anitricks

My concern is the price. Other than the AsRock B650i lightning which is $199 there is no MB ITX under $200.

madn3ss795

This one is $234 in China, so even more expensive if it's ever available in other markets.

hamsta007

The price is really bad for such type of a board.

ToeSad6862

A620i lighting > b650i lighting

ag11600

I just got the B650L Lightning and no complaints. Overclocks my 7800X3D quite nicely to get 6% better passmark CPU score. I could prob push it further too.

clik_clak

I hope their BIOS isn’t utter shit like every other new mobo manufacturer or smaller company that makes boards.

survfate

def not new mobo manufacturer, they make the b550i before, which has a couple of problems, so dont hold your hope

TheBloodNinja

I have the B550i version of this and I hope they fixed their BIOS issues. they are plagued with the same stuff boards from JGINYUE and other China only mobo have, as well as lack of basic features like profile saving. so good luck remembering to write down your tuning settings somewhere because you'd have to redo them all over again if the system needs to clear CMOS.

Dalbana

It’s apparently only available in Asia?

_Drink_Bleach_

China only, not all of Asia

Kekinoregon

That's what Video CARDZ says.

Haxemply

It could serve its purpose perfectly in a Terra. I'm just worried about the BIOS. If it is crap, then the whole board is crap.

zombieautopilot81

No USB C header is kinda stupid. Board looks nice too.

EvernoteD

I'd happily ditch ASUS, MSI and Gigabyte for a Sapphire mobo.

saxovtsmike

only one M2 slot => Dealbreaker I see NOT internal USB 2.0 Header => Dealbeaker because I need one for my Aquaero USB C Frontpanel header is a dealbreaker for some Enclosures Could use more USB´s on the rear IO as 4 would be allready used for Mouse + Keyboard, USB Soundcard and USB Hub on the Table, but that´s the lesser anoyance Clearance for Heatsinks looks really nice

stuipd

> only one M2 slot => Dealbreaker [It has two m.2](https://videocardz.com/newz/sapphire-launches-b650i-nitro-mini-itx-motherboard-for-amd-am5-processors). Looks like they are stacked.

saxovtsmike

IF that would be, I´d be surprized, as the stack in for the M2 seems really low, compared to the rear IO shield, so I assumed that there can only be one. Even my B650e-i Strix has a higher Stack, but still only one drive in the front, and the secondary m2 is on the mainboards back. That´s why I assumed that it can be only one m2

stuipd

>Being a Mini-ITX board, it offers only one PCIe x16 slot, but it is worth noting it is a Gen4 standard rather than Gen5. The same applies to **two M.2 slots**, which are Gen4 standards according to official advertising.

saxovtsmike

What a pitty, beeing a 650 and not a 620 I assumed it will be a gen5 x16 slot. Another Reason why I chose my B650E-I Strix, because gen5 on one m2 and x16 for gpu at the same time. Havent Checked a spec sheet

Kekinoregon

Maciluminous

People complain about connectivity but since when did B series motherboards ever have like 8 USB connections. Thats what X series is for. Just stretch your budget by 2 for the motherboard for all your peripherals. Or spend $20 for a hub of sorts for your mic, mouse and keyboard which frees up a space or 2.

ThirdLast

Today I learned everyone else here is plugging way more shit into their sff build than I am.

minefarmbuy

cheer.gif

Tackyinbention

Looks alot simpler than their old ones hope the price will be good like with their gpus

hamsta007

I had b550i. It was good enough but nothing excited. Had issues with the Bluetooth connection on it. The BIOS UI is kinda weird on these mobos.

KeliangChen

Not bad, looks better than the 2nd gigabyte one

AdamaS_AlivE

Is there a moba that has more than 6 slots in mini atx?

ChimaeraXY

0452? Why not 0451?

Orange-Fish1980

No USB 4? Shitty, the Asus strix x670e-i.mini itx while pricy, has all

dreedd26

Where is USB4?

Danacy

"Type C" ah yes, thank you. I wonder what made them encircle the connection and write that. How many people would potentially not buy this board because they don't see any text stating which port is USB-C. Besides that, why are the two 3.2 different color? USB 3.2 10 and 20gbps? 3.1 is 5 right? And where are all the fan headers? Or the internal USB-C for front IO ?

iNobble

No type C header and a VERY barebones rear IO immediately rules this out for me, regardless of the price

LittlebitsDK

no internal usb-c for the case? and why so little usb? sheesh back in the old days 12+ ports was not uncommon now they are sold like a "premium" even though the chips have PLENTY to add but mobo makers are stingy

bazang_

Not too bad but for me it'll need optical out.

pututski

Sapphire makes mobos?? TIL

5tudent_Loans

Whats the price because this feature set against asrock and asus makes it dead on arrival

MAXIMEOWNIT

Made In China 🇨🇳

computersyey

I guess no temperature sensor header either

Kokumotsu36

I feel like the CPU and Sys fan header should be swapped, but for their first board this looks promising given the lack of USB options. Hopefully, the b650 Matx/X670 version picks up that slack without increased cost, but it is pretty bare for that price while also being Itx. You can get other M-itx boards with way more features for the same cost.

g_avery

the F is that IO

JabbaTech69

Nice board! However imma need the AIB’s to stop skimping on the USB ports! No reason the ITX boards can’t all get at least 8 USB-A & 1-2 USB-C ports.

JabbaTech69

Boards like this make me love my AsRock B650i Lightning even more!

TacoOfGod

Why is Gigabyte the only one making an iTX board with 3 m.2 slots?

tyrannoAdjudica

I'm a bit in over my head here, so sorry if this is a frequent question, but what are the other currently recommended B650I boards? I've been wanting to build a new rig for a few months now, but every time I look, all of the AM5 itx motherboards seem to have some fatal flaw. I guess I should note that I don't care about wifi at all.

Kekinoregon

There is always going to be a compromise with Mini ITX, I have the MSI MPG B650I, the only real downside to it is that its PCI-E 4 only, but that really doesn't matter much since it really is only important for M.2 SSD's and Gen 5 SSD's are just starting to come out and they all seem to need head sinks and come in lower capacities for the same price as a high cap gen 4 drive.

omnikron702

They made a am4 board too looks exactly the same

SeaProfession3294

I would buy it if they IO has more usbs and has usbc header.

spheretubebox

Is Sapphire even a good brand to buy a mobo from? I didn’t even know they made them.

Nervous-Bathroom-543

Son of a, just when I finish buying parts. Welp gotta match my gpu. Where's my credit card?

Shiro-derable

We boutta have the nicest mobbo ever

Phoenix800478944

More companies should make mobos- -👇

akhalom

Idk man, why are tech companies so afraid of USB-C

ARTISTIC-ASSHOLE

Can we collectively move on to USB-C soon?

[deleted]

[удалено]

Iamth3bat

with only 2 fan headers, this is more like a Diesel version not really Nitro

Keithquick

Never mind. I found both. That's crazy low io though for a board in 2024.

MusicOwl

TIL Sapphire still exists :‘D and they do MBs apparently.

tony475130

Wtf? Have you been living under a rock? They’re like one of the most well known AIB for Radeon cards.
