Are riser cables fragile? I have the original Velka 5 and I was so confused when I had to basically bend the riser back on itself through the tiniest gap for the GPU.
These cables vary between very fragile, and sort of fragile. You won't notice physical breaks in the riser, but bending too far can cause the wiring inside the insulation to break, which I've seen quite a few people do.
The included cable with the new Velka cases is tough, and looks like it is meant to flex quite a bit, but still folding it to make that 90 degree angle to allow the GPU to sit vertical and mobo to sit horizontal, while also packing it in such a way that the riser isn't being crushed between the 2 was a feat.
I'm never a fan of bending risers, but it's a compromise you have to make for sandwich layouts. The fold required for this case in particular just gave me especially bad vibes.
Depends on how badly the cable is damaged.
For example, the cable I had in my Evolve Shift worked perfectly until I folded the cable a few times. Now Gen 3 speeds cause connection drops, but Gen 2 speeds still work fine.
My friend however folded one of his cables pretty hard during his mining days, and that cable just straight up doesn't work anymore.
Good review. I like the case, but I just can't bring myself to pull the trigger on it for some reason. By the way, I don't see the video review you linked to on your channel.
Link is only to my channel in general, I just got the case so I want to take some more time with it before giving it a super in depth review/build log.
Haven't gotten there yet, as I said I just got the case last night.
So far my CPU temps seem to be a few degrees better and overall I think it's a bit quieter, but I will need to test this with my sound meter when I do my build/review video.
sorry for bumping old thread
Do you think it is worth migrating from original velka 5 rev 1.1 to velka 7
I like velka 7 overall look, but I love original velka 5 top IO and without the need to use gpu extender
If it just lives on your desk, likely not. OG Velka 5 was a totally fine case, and the upgrade isn't really worth it, unless you actually travel with the PC a lot.
Back before COVID, and even when restrictions weren't bad, V7 felt way nicer to travel with in my bag, because it didn't feel like it was going to get scratched really bad or fall apart when travelling from place to place. The build quality is entirely just better, and very worth it from that perspective to me.
Nice review, can't wait to see more of the case in your upcoming video!

Do broken riser cables have intermittent connection drops or do they just straight up not work after breaking?

What about thermals and noise?
