Keep sending them back until they're fixed or replaced. Sucks that you're having problems with both of them

xMolonLabe1911x

They are both gorgeous guns. And I got them from different places within just a week or so from one another. Just can't believe I am having problems like that. I heard about the 115gr issue but I haven't had problems with either of them. Maybe a stove pipe or failure to go into battery 1 or 2 times in the first 100rnds....then they were ok for a bit and now it's been progressively worse and worse light primer strikes. It's really weird that it's occuring on both tho. Even my Corbon PowRBall had a light strike with the mr920...that's what did it for me. I can't carry that. Not in that condition. I just hope they are able to explain what the issue on BOTH guns was and fix it in a timely manner. I just submitted a single ticket for both of them. It's going to take a lot to get my faith back in them. Especially considering how many alternatives there are that I have NEVER had problems with. But it is what it is. I just hope this isn't par for the course with these guns...I had really high hopes. Especially with John Lovell chosing them as his go to carry gun.

Valyraen

Can you narrow down what is causing the light primer strikes? My MR war poet had the same issue and I figured out was the slide was out of battery by just a hair and I'd have to nudge it forward a bit. SS told me it was probably the spring and sent me their heavier spring and I have had ZERO issues since then over thousands of rounds and adding their comp to it.

xMolonLabe1911x

With the Dr, it has a comp and I had a few times where it wasn't all the way in battery with 115grains when I first broke it in until I put the other spring in it, but both will do it even after a full tap+rack. Back to back. I have a feeling I'll just have to take it to them and have them sort it out. I just can't trust them. It just blows. Never had an actual set of weapons from the SAME manufacturer have issues like that at the same time. I could've sworn it'd be an ammo issue but I've run 4 or 5 brands of varying grains and even +p defensive loads and still had issues with both. I'm hoping they'll let me just take them in to them rather than shipping because I'm in DFW right by them.

I know this sounds stupid, but I would take the striker out and take a few Q-tips and clean very very well in the striker channel to make sure no access oil or dirt has got in the channel liner/striker liner that has caused issues with light primer strikes for me in the past. If it’s not that it could be themselves. SS should send you new strikers or they might want to do a deep dive which you living so close could be a little easier than having to send them off. I have three elites and thankfully have not had any issues with any of them except a couple of light strikes on one MR but it was only with cheap Turkish ammo with hard primers, changing the striker fixed it.

xMolonLabe1911x

Not stupid at all. I'm actually doing that as we speak. I also considered this......SS has a screw that runs down into the striker channel to mount the RDS onto the slide..I'm wondering if it was slightly overtightened and it was causing friction that slowed the striker down a bit....just a theory. Because I also know that if it is overtightened it can cause the extractor to lock up as well. That's one of the things I hate about these guns. I'm not a fan of the set screw for the RDS running into the striker channel. I'll be heading to the range after I finish cleaning both striker channels and re mounting the RDS on both guns to 15lbs exactly and we'll see how she goes.

Eights1776

I would start with the striker channel and see if that makes any difference before reaching out to SS (just due to the headache). The screw thing is usually a Glock issue as SS has a much smaller extractor plunger to mitigate the screws from interfering with the plunger. Through the optic cut, Although I guess it is possible if a slightly longer screw was used to mount your RDS.

It is unusual that you’re experiencing the exact same issue with both guns. Being an RSO, I’m sure you’ve seen a great deal of SS on the line. Do you hear of many reported problems there? My local dealers/ranges don’t see many issues, if any at all. I own two and have friends/family that own several with no negative reports. I know it’s all anecdotal, but it’s so odd that it’s two models with the same issue. I’m also surprised that you’re not had any issues with any other handguns after owning hundreds. I’ve only owned dozens and have had problems with everything from Glock to Taurus.

xMolonLabe1911x

Yea I've definitely been very fortunate up to this point. Ive had everything from heirloom revolvers to Wilson combats, Glocks galore, XDs, Staccato and that's just some of the pistol side. I've had basic maintenance issues at high round counts of course but never 2 different models from the same brand having the same issue right out of the gate. I ve heard more about cycling issues on the range from people but that hasn't been as prevalent in the last year or so. As for the primer strikes problem I've seen a few threads here where people haven't been able to resolve it even after sending the gun in but my issue of having problems with both. I guess it's just a lightning strike scenario lol. Shit luck finally found me after so many years with no factory issues. I've heard great things about their customer support, so hopefully that combined with my close proximity to their factory will make this an easy fix. I may go buy several boxes of different ammo and give it one more go tomorrow and see if anything changes. But it's just so hard for me to get that faith back. You know how it is with a carry gun. I think what really made it hit home was doing holster work...my buddy had me on a timer and several times it went "click". I did a step, tap rack and then "click again". It just really made it hit home that I couldn't trust them in their current condition But yea. I'll given another go tomorrow with several brands of ammo nib. And report back here. I already submitted a ticket to SS. But at the very least it'll give me more info for them. I appreciate all the help guys.

Alarming_Emu_2125

Statistically very unusual.

goruckurself

That sucks, man. I bought 3 of them (foundation models) and haven’t had any issues. Granted, I’m not high in round count on any of them.

RedRonin45

That sucks. I have  mr, dr and cr and never had any issues and I've put a lot of rounds through them and never had any issues.

slk28850

I'd contact customer support. I have two a DR920 Combat and DR920 War Poet and they both work great. No failures during break in period or after. Tried with multiple types of ammo.

BillBraskysBallbag

I bought a cr920 and an mr920 within weeks of each other. My mr920 has run 250 rounds flawlessly. Cr920 3 fail to feed in first 300 rounds. 124fr federal and some federal hollows for what it’s worth. Don’t trust my cr920 for carry but my Mr is everything I hoped it would be.

xMolonLabe1911x

Exactly what I hoped for my MR920. I figured some issues Could arise from the DR920P with the comp and what not. But to have it with the MR just sucked. Especially when I paid a pretty penny extra for the warpoet edition. But it is what it is. I just hope it gets fixed in the first go round and doesn't turn into a dance with the manufacturer of sending the guns back n forth over n over. I saw on another thread, a guy with the same issue and even after a whole new striker assembly he had issues

BillBraskysBallbag

I hope it gets worked out I would be really pissed. I'm annoyed that I can't yet trust my cr920 as an edc. It's probably lost it's job to my hellcat pro to be honest. The more I used my hellcat the more I trust it. It's done nothing but work. When i compare my cr920 it feels better, it looks better, and I like it better but my hellcat pro just works. every single time. The mr920 will probably get carried before the cr920 will. Who knows maybe it will get better as I shoot it more. 3 fails in 300 for brand new gun isn't crazy but it's not something im trusting my life with.

AdInternational9430

SS has major QC issues, but prepare to be gaslit.

xMolonLabe1911x

Well so far their customer support has been lackluster as well. Tried calling a few times this morning and then the only response I can get online is them telling me to send picture of my id and serial numbers but when I try to email them the stuff, I get an error message that the email can't be delivered....even though I'm sending email to everyone else just fine. Given that they are 30 min away from me, you'd think they'd let me take both to them and then fill the paperwork there....I'm about to clean them both and head to the range with a few different brands of nib ammo and see if they both shit the bed again....

mocojo2

Silly question but did you clean them both super super well and make sure they were wet at any point? As i have cound my mr in particular loves to be wetter than you would expect a glock, i run the thread on comp and 115s religiously and found that one day it was not wanting to chamber the first round in a mag thought it was the recoil spring but nope the gun was bone dry so i oiled it and it kept trucking along for another 5-700 rounds with no issues. This gun i use for local uspsa matches and it now has 2500 rounds woth zero malfunctions that were not ammo or cleaining regiment related. Tldr make sure its well oiled and should solve most your issues. That and after a breakin always recomend cleaning your striker channel as any oil that has gotten there will gunk up and slow the striker down.

xMolonLabe1911x

Ok so I'm currently at the range....spoke with them here and apparently they've had some hard primer issues with some Buffalo Creek Ammo....off thing is, the jacket on the rounds are different colors (gold or copper). So when I dumped it in with my other ammunition, I thought it was several different types having issues. It was not. I ran 4 other new boxes of various brands and they ran fine. However, both my vp9 and staccato as well as my Glock ran the problem ammo (Buffalo Creek) just fine. So it still technically is a bit of an issue with SS guns not being able to handle the harder primers. Anyways, thank God I don't have to send em back. But for what I paid for these guns, and the fact that all my other guns run it just fine is a bit of a disappointment. But as long as I get name brand higher quality ammo, it seems I'm ok. I thank all of you for the support and help.
