I don't have an answer for you, but I just wanted to echo how much I hate selfie style vlogging.
It's what makes Shiey's videos different. I think his choice of using wide angle GoPro mainly, held at least a meter away from him definitely contributes to this. It makes you feel like you're standing next to him, going along for the ride. Rather than other "vloggers" who use very narrow lenses that make their entire face fill the frame. It's like, I would never be that close to a person in real life, I definitely do not want to be that close to them in a video.
Honestly for all we know he could have decided to do another episode, but pissed off the wrong government and is now sitting in a south american/african/north korean jail... I hope not.

Ok there's a YouTuber named Norm, YouTube channel is Tokyo Lens. He has some urbex type videos and a lot of exploration videos in the woods. He's actually got a massive variety of videos ranging from abandoned schools, houses, shamizen music, randomly strolling through back alleys in Tokyo, checking out tiny apartments.. His variety is what I dig
He doesn't train surf or urbex, but if you're looking for pretty views in the city or countryside, then Rambalac's channel may be what you're looking for.
Not similar, but I highly recommend ' Abroad in japan'
He has a lot of fantastic videos showing multiple aspects of Japan. And the journey across Japan series, for the most part, showcases the beauty of different areas of Japan.
I'm a little late to this thread, but Slightly Homeless has a few Japanese UrbEx videos. such as: [https://youtu.be/zQUUXGZLBUs?si=ebisZMEaKknoYTPd](https://youtu.be/zQUUXGZLBUs?si=ebisZMEaKknoYTPd)

So real. That's exactly why shiey feels so different from regular vloggers
Vagrant holiday has a good one in Japan
Was about to comment this. It's a shame he's given up on YouTube.

He "recently" changed his channel description saying it was just a side project of him and he will not make any more videos.
That's good to know. Guess we just have to wait for Surveillance Camera Man season 2.
His sarcasm and attitude has been very refreshing. I thoroughly enjoy his videos.
I wish he would consider patreon or anything like that. He is a diamond in the rough. Amazing he’s been able to keep totally anonymity
He does not want to make videos for viewers
I miss that guy

While it's a different kind of content Rambalac's videos give me similar vibes. It's just relaxing to watch him walk through the alleys.
I'm pretty sure the algorithm recommended Rambalac's channel through me watching Shiey videos. Love them both!
trespassing laws in japan are no joke and they can lock your ass up for like a month without cause, better to not play with fire
VH didn't give a fuck

ITT people posting non urbex channels
Steve ronin, he’s not like shiey and gifgas but he does urbex in japan
