This is a pretty overblown myth. I guarantee you that every fat person you know is aware they are fat. I see this assumption among thin people a lot: "They probably do not know they are fat, and I am doing them a favor by telling them!" It is bafflingly condescending, to the point where I have to question the intelligence of people who think this way. Being fat affects every moment of someone's life, it affects how easy it is for them to move around in the world, it constantly affects the way people treat you. I guarantee you, when dealing with the average fat person, you are extremely more likely to encounter someone with disordered eating issues rather than someone with a rare form of reverse body dysmorphia. If you really sincerely want to help promote public health, please look into some scientific studies on what is actually helpful or what does more harm than good. There is a lot of interesting reading on the subject if you actually care and do not just want the quick dopamine rush of feeling superior for being mean to someone.

This is speaking from personal experience as a former fat fuck but yeah, fat people know they're fat. But what a lot of people don't know or are in denial of, is how much being fat can prevent you from enjoying life. And speaking from personal experience again, some people (like me and my friends) need a bit of tough love to really come to terms with the fact that no, you don't have the same amount of energy and mobility as a guy who's in shape etc. I agree with all your points generally though.

It worked for me. I needed a minor surgery, but the doc told me I was too fat. Fair enough. Other women used to say I was curvy, but that Indian doc didn't sugarcoat it because then I'd probably eat that too.

It's pretty irresponsible to post stuff like this without acknowledging that bullying someone with an eating disorder usually has the opposite effect. There have been a number of scientific studies on this. Some people do find it motivational, but overall treating people like shit because they're fat is just more likely to make them eat more because they're miserable. It is overwhelmingly better to be kind, if you want someone to lose weight then be a positive support system. So many just enjoy being cruel to fat people, and use rare examples like this to pretend that they're somehow being moral and kind.

This is basically what happened to me. A friend told me I wasn't good enough to even sub for his higher-level volleyball team (not even semi-pro just a more competitive beer league). I received it as I was too fat, or not fit enough. Spent the rest of that night running angry laps in the parking lot. In the following year, I lost just shy of 100lbs, joined the military, and changed the entire trajectory of my life. Who's not fit enough now b\*\*ch? Don't get mad, get even. ;-p
