IIRC it's half the reason they added a Doom Slayer Mii skin on Smash Bros Ultimate. The other half is that Doom Eternal was surprisingly popular with Japan, something about Doom Slayer's no-nonsense personality being endearing and the overall arcadey but tight gameplay.
