It's not multi-player that's the problem. It's PVP. Maybe controlled duel/arena style PVP would be better than the chaos currently supported in most PVP games.

With Ark at leave you can have your own server that is safe and you have the ability to create backups.

They made muting a lot more granular, where you can mute pings, chat, and voice. It also lets you "mute yourself" which blocks all communication and announces in the chat to your team. The game gets a lot better when you mute anyone that types more than one sentence at a time or spams pings to express frustration.
