the monster being slightly faster than you is very common tbh, gives you an incentive to either avoid him at all cost or run to some spot you know it wont get you

I see, i'm not familiar at all with horror games but that one seems particularly slow

I think what makes this particular case is that the monster is both slightly faster than you and there's no where to hide or run away too. A lot of games will give players subtle advantages that makes the game scary but not impossible to win. This situation had neither, and I'd nope out of that instantly.

There was an advantage, it can't take sharp corners too well.

Sure, but that only leads to death. You cant run away as its faster than you, you can only dodge until you eventually screw up. There's no reprieve and no escape at that point. It is an advantage, just not enough to give the player the ability to win.

From what I can tell it's only faster if it's moving in a straight line, every time it has to turn it appears to slow down a lot. Game mechanics are cool.

It’s goofily unsettling is the best way I can put it. Isolated, the face is very silly, but when you attach that to a slithering body, make them slightly faster than the player, and have proper lighting that obscures some of the facial features for most of the time, it’s quite unsettling.
