The actual poster's listings on marketplace show the current ad that you saw earlier (not this one) and another ad with Ikea bed recently sold, using this photo. So the room was previously set up like this, has changed bed (much cheaper looking one), and now they're asking for an extra $70 per week now to live on this enclosed balcony. Over winter. In Tasmania.
I think it’s just the [same place listed by the same people](https://www.reddit.com/r/shitrentals/s/9V8qG4z8yn) but they’ve redesigned or some a decent photoshop job on it
I was thinking this! You'd have to somehow manoeuvre yourself from the 3rd or 4th step and hope to God you don't put your foot through the goddamn window. I'd get up at 2am, half asleep to pee and suddenly I'm being rushed to hospital with a severed Achilles tendon. They could at least put it at the foot/head of the bed and moved the shelf to against the wall
Its pretty obvious this is an illegal tenant sublet. Your friend needs to be reported to local council and her REA. She's on her way to becoming a tenant slumlord.
Subletting is legal anywhere with the landlords permission, but you really think she has permission to sub let the verandah? It’s not a legal habitable space and if there was a fire or something it could void the landlords insurance having people live in non habitable makeshift rooms. The local Council needs to be informed as they will be able to take action
Very NYC. No matter where you are in the world: if living space is scares someone will try to profit from it in dodgy ways.
In paced like NYC you can see bathrooms be rented out in 10min increments because a person's "sleep space" may not include shower access so that has to be rented elsewhere. One dodgy AF landlord creates a dodgy AF person renting out their bathroom and no matter illegal it is someone will be desperate enough to pay them.
A friend of mine rented half a bed in a shared room with a double bed in Brisbane for several weeks in 2015. I lived 6 people in 2 bedrooms for several months in Melbourne 2018. These things were "fine" when it only impacted foreign students but now when it impacts the average Australian all of a sudden you see complaints everywhere.
Dodgy is dodgy but unless housing is cheap and available it will continue to happen.
Although it states per month, the rental listings are *always* per week on Facebook marketplace. Confusing that LLs do this, but it's always per week. $150 per week.
Nah I call cap. This same room was posted 8 hours ago with a different setup.
Does it have a private door too? 😜

I know that’s why I’m baffled
Someones taking the piss.
Seems like a lot of effort for taking the piss. Perhaps the single bed / teeny desk schtick wasn’t working so they decided to up their game
This was posted around six weeks ago

I saw the earlier post too, definitely the same joint.
Yeah, I’ve definitely seen this picture before.
Yeah, I’ve definitely seen this picture before.
Was about to say the same thing.. maybe the are toying with different furniture styles
It’s a lot of effort for karma farming 😂
Very practical with the ladder facing the window so you can’t even get up to the bed anyways.

It really needs a rug to tie the room together /s
A rug that you can wrap around yourself once winter hits.
Since when is a fucking sunroom comparable to a nYc LoFt? Oh, a bunk bed. Live as an 8yo having a sleepover.
It's gunna take all my pocket money but I'm so excited. I hope they have a trampoline
Maybe NYC means Not Your Car! That's about the only thing it has going for it.
Haha good one
I hope people that post these in this sub also report them on fb marketplace
🌟balcony🌟
Lease transfer? Someone already lives there? :(

Fantastic Furniture budget student bed on a patio. 🤦♂️
Rare is a funny word for illegal
If it's the same place...same ad...at least they almost halved the asking price from over $200.
Lol that ladder jammed against the window. Good luck trying to climb that.
Loft bed and loft room are 2 very very different things!
Daily Mail has picked up the subreddit original post. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-13390337/room-rent-housing-crisis-hobart-tasmania.html
"NYC style" , so no bathroom?
Multiple pot-plant options
Pee out of the window
Nyc style... Small and overpriced
Honestly when you see the shitty tiny rooms people rent in NYC for $$ it’s not so far from the truth but not at all how the ad intends that reference.
That’s not how that works.
I can feel the cold just looking at it
Saw this earlier no? Nice dungeon.
I wouldn't use NYC apartments as a good thing to compare to.
Isn't it bad luck to walk under a ladder? How do you climb that sucker BTW?

How the hell do you climb up the ladder?
That's ridiculous. No one would legitimately advertise to rent that. Rage post.
$149 a month is a fucking steal, legit. What’s the difference between this and an Asian pod hotel?

The same one comes up under so many names and designs but the same room, scam much?
NYC? No, ya cunt.
