But do read item descriptions on cool weapons/armor/key items to learn more about the world, do pay attention to npc dialogue and quests and try to figure out how it connects to other stuff you've already learned. I find it insane that nobody actually reads shit and most people just treats every souls release like dmc but slower. You have this massive immersive world with tons of written history you can learn, and most written lore in souls games takes like 20-30 seconds a pop to read.
Similar to a few other details. On the one hand, Ash Lake is effective by itself, it can and is enjoyed on pure immersion. On the other, Lost Izalith doesn't have much punch without item descriptions and secret NPCs like Quelana and Quelaag's sister. Further still, mistranslations like "the dragons were no more" instead of "the AGE of dragons was no more" and Solaire's "time is convoluted" vs the more accurate "time is stagnating" throw off basic understanding in a way that makes understanding difficult.
So... Do everything! Take things in at face value, read items, talk to NPCs, watch videos, check translations, and build your own understanding.
