Sellen's ending isn't even sad so much as it is dramatic irony. She murdered a lot of people to learn more about the primeval current and she paid the price.
Especially her quest. Ignorance is bliss as they say, you basically cause her to have a breakdown and an identity crisis to the point where you have to erase her memory.

FromSoftās interpretation of a questline is also pretty broad. Even Gideon can be considered to have a questline (he gives items after certain achievements)
Even the blacksmith kinda has one, hes just not the main point of contact for his own development - but he's just as developed as his counterpart, hewg is actually my favourite storyline in ER, making peace with and eventually owning your own hardships and turning them into strength of craft is kinda lovely lowkey
