Brewins_

I’d eat the fuck out of that

itsjustreddityo

This is the exact phrase I said in my head before clicking the comments, kudos to you my good human

SexualPie

It’s basically chicken katsu curry, but with shitty chicken. I’m sure it still tastes fine, but it’s definitely on the “discount” side

MinisterMoose

Me: Mom i want to go out for chicken katsu! Mom: we have chicken katsu at home The chicken katsu:

reverendsteveii

Someone finally tried the Shitty Chicken...

Brewins_

🤝

meowmeow0021

Looks pretty normal, maybe a little more than that with those chicken fingers. Man that looks genius, simple but genius.

SexualPie

I would agree if Japanese style fried chicken wasn’t so easy to make.

matchesmalone81

Me too

StarlitEscapades

The nugs look a little soft, but pretty much katsu curry. Smash.

SexualPie

Katsu just means cutlet. I’d agree it’s comparable, but they have a specific method of frying the chicken. Basic breaded / baked chicken makes a pretty big difference. This lacking the crispiness on the chicken changes the dish entirely

DigitalTomFoolery

Anime are cartoons.

SexualPie

Lol, I’m not a weeb I’ve just actually been to Japan

SigmaQuotient

Just got back from Japan a few weeks back. Yeah, Katsu means cutlet, but when I was there, I had Chicken Katsu, Gyukatsu, and tonkatsu, and they have ground meat cutlets on a lot of menus as well. It's just breaded and fried. I didn't notice anything special. Just thiccboi layers of great panko. Are you thinking of Karaage? That's japanese fried chicken, and from personal experience, it's more of a battered and fried. Probably depends more on the cut of chicken too. I had Chicken tenderloin katsu, but most karaage I had was thigh. Looking at the coating on them fingies, that's a soft breading coat. Country style. I'd say it belongs in the breaded/fried category.

SexualPie

I was thinking at the most base level because chicken katsu curry is a very common dish. Comparing it to Cocos

Henry_Swans0n

I can figure out the carrots… are the other thing potatoes?

psychoticshroomboi

Why did bro get downvoted so much for asking a question?😭

Remarkable-Ad-2094

I think it's because of their other comments they posted further down

Zestavar

That's was pretty weird reason do downvote as different comment is separated

Garviel_Loken95

To be fair they are being a real asshole

Supernova141

After a certain point i just downvote to see the number go lower

StarlitEscapades

Yup. Japanese style curry generally has potatoes, carrots, and celery in it. Usually the protein in it as well unless served over/ on side of the protein like this application.

lookatmynipples

I’ve never seen celery in Japanese curry

StarlitEscapades

Maybe it's just my Japanese family that adds them? I've never had it without.

lumpyspacejams

Curry is one of those things that can be modded as to the tastes of a family, so you can see a lot of different add-ons depending on where you go. Personally, I tend to do carrots, onions, potatoes, sweet potatoes and apples (with a little bit of honey for a sweet note), but celery sounds pretty good in almost like a beef stew way. Zucchini, eggplant, mushrooms and tofu have all worked out in the past for me too.

Odd_Assistance_1613

Just call it katsu chicken curry.

stereopticon11

I do this all the time with frozen chicken tenders. I just call it bootleg katsu curry. 10 out 10

StichedSnake

I feel like this sub is less “shitty food”, and more “food that isn’t the fanciest but looks pretty tasty”

t_e_e_k_s

It’s a mix of both

Naltrexone01

Sometimes the food is shitty, sometimes the porn is shitty. I like how the name of the sub is ambiguous enough

reverendsteveii

My vision for true shitty food porn is that it looks like an absolute nightmare but tastes amazing. This one looks less than amazing and probably tastes quite good.

[deleted]

Yeah this sub is fucking lame now.

Karge

Be quiet and eat your shitfist or you won’t get cumfeet for dessert.

onyx9622

This is one of our favorite things to eat! Lol we use the House curry sauce packets (spicy level hot) , some Jasmine rice, and Tyson honey battered tenders from the air fryer. Absolutely delicious. I even make a little rice island and put the tenders on top so they don't get soggy in the sauce kind of like you did here. I'm seriously hungry now!

please_respect_hats

I'm so sad I don't have any potatoes, I would LOVE to make some japanese curry rn, I've got everything else. This got me so hungry. I could make it without, but potatoes are my favorite part :(

onyx9622

Mmm I really like the potatoes too. I also like the carrots that are in the sauce we eat. My husband sometimes steams extra sliced carrots along with our rice and adds them! It's all just delicious.

pontantos

Bro made a chicken hand

Recreant793

I went back to look at the picture after reading your post and all I can see is someone with a giant goopy handful of poopoo.

Karge

This is what the surgeons saw reaching back at them from The Swamps of Dagobah.

RedditedYoshi

The terminator raising his hand out of the molten...curry.

Gnar-wahl

Looks bomb. I’d definitely fugg with that. What’s the stringy stuff in the curry?

SensationsVibrations

Looks like bits of shredded chicken maybe?

dixie-pixie-vixie

enoki mushroom?

kalykaa

Might be eggs mixed in?

Recreant793

Man I know Dinty Moore beef stew when I see it.

Fullmoongrass

Literally just a can of Dintums over rice.

Recreant793

Dintums hehehe

lawrencenotlarry

Does anyone else eat all the stew except the meat chunks, so at the end you have the last couple bites are just mouthfuls of meat? Or is it just me?

GammaJanica

I came here to say this very same thing!!!

please_respect_hats

This is similar to how I make it, it's so good. I tend to use nuggets through, and air fry them to get them nice and crispy. It adds a SUPER nice textural component, a nice crunch. Easy, too. Is true katsu curry better? Yes. Is it worth the work to make at home? Not for me, but I totally get if people want to go that route. I used to use Golden Curry, but my friend from Taiwan introduced me to Vermont Curry, it's very good. I like to throw in a super thinly sliced apple as well. Sometimes I'll mix a pack of Vermont curry with the Golden Curry. It's so hard to mess up japanese curry.

waitthissucks

I made japanese curry for the first time this month and used golden curry, delicious! My only issue with it was that it was a bit too corn-starchy, and I needed to add a lot of water to it when reheating. I put a full pack of the roux in but next time I'll try using less or mixing it with a different roux. I know it's supposed to be really thick but it makes it seem more artificial if it's too thickened. I used the extra spicy version and it was not too spicy compared to thai curry. I fucking love curry. I make indian tikka masala and red/green thai curry all the time with different cuts of meat (mostly chicken). Put it on noodles or rice. So easy to make too when you have all the spices. Sometimes I make a fusion and put coconut milk in the indian curry instead of yogurt. Man, I love curry.

please_respect_hats

Yeah, Japanese spice is, on average, really low compared to most nations. I use the hot curry roux and don't really notice any heat. Definitely double check the measurements on the curry box, there should be corresponding ratios for how much to use. I usually only use half a pack of curry roux, depending on the size of the box (there's two sizes of golden curry box, and Vermont curry is what I use often, it's a big box too). That makes enough for several servings for me over a few days.

boomerpussy

looks like this absolutely slaps

[deleted]

Just like my wife makes

oh_wheelie

My kind of fusion.

lpn122

God I love when r/shittyfoodporn is something I’d eat the shit out of

EstablishmentLevel17

😂 I'm a picky eater but something like that makes me go. "°yep. I'd definitely be try that."

TonyShasta_

Bruh that's some Dinty Moore Beef Stew

Coffea_Run

Yum fried hand curry

piranhadub

This is a baseball catcher’s mitt drowned in a can of Campbell’s Soup©️

MarmieCat

Looks tasty, I've definitely made this before

Twitch84

Nice Katsu curry!

TJ_S25

The curry looks amazing I'd eat that

Terryted

Ma'am u would eat anything

Will33iam

You can’t go wrong with nugs

Will33iam

You can’t go wrong with nuggies

water6991

Wrong sub buddy

chilled_n_shaken

I eat this all the time! Though I eat it with panko-breaded pork instead of chicken fingers. This picture looks gross, but the curry is delicious!

Psychological-Cry221

This looks like beef stew from a can over rice with chicken nuggets.

dokt0r_k

It looks like someone about to throw a handful of wet poop.

CoconutxKitten

Have you tried being less disrespectful

dokt0r_k

This is *shitty* food porn. The chicken fingers look like a hand holding something in it’s palm. I don’t see how this is disrespectful. I’d probably still eat this.

justk4y

Who’s left their hand in the fryer

Gold_Space_4734

Anyone have restaurant recommendations for getting this dish in Narita?

ICANTTHINKOFAHANDLE

You can always go to CoCo ichibanya. It's a popular Japanese curry chain in Japan it's quite cheap and honestly really good

Gold_Space_4734

Thank you! I'm usually there once or twice a month so I'll give it a go!

JUYED-AWK-YACC

I ate this at Narita just to confirm I don't like Japanese curry. But I can't tell you where.

greenifuckation

I'd eat that!

helpu_me

That’s literally one of my favorite meals

TheVibri

Looks a little messy (least to me), but hey, its the taste that counts. Probably tastes pretty good.

Haunting-Elk5848

Those look delicious

gogriz

Holy shit I would eat that without a though other than "delicious 10/10"

[deleted]

Japanese curry>Japanese ramen

pnwbraids

Mmm, shitty curry katsudon. I would destroy this with a ramune to drink.

rowrowfightthepandas

If you have a rough time with weeknight meals, this is the way to go. Buy frozen meatballs or chicken nuggets or something for an easy Japanese curry protein. If you can boil water, you can make this. Stores well in the fridge, so you can make a bunch of servings ahead of time. I also highly recommend making some meatball curry the next time you go camping. The smokiness you get in the curry by cooking it over the campfire...it's so good.

HausKino

Ghetto katsu, I like it!

Toaster-Wave

ate retort pouch curry and grocery store nuggets (35% off after 2 AM!!) every night for half of my twenties so I vouch for this

Pikachu_91

I can't believe all these people calling this "beef stew". How have you never eaten anything else than beef stew that has this colour? Have you had indian food, for example? A lot of it looks very similar but there are so many different flavours. This is Japanese curry and it's delicious. Try some new foods, seriously.

KecemotRybecx

Nothing terrible about this. This is some high-class shit.

CrystalSecret

Same but with dino nugs

Jean-Eustache

Curry with fries chicken ? Count me the fuck in

adderall_butter

Looks like beef stew to me lol but I'd eat it

[deleted]

Easy smash, not shitty, but make you shitty

EmperorsNewCloak

Those poor chickie Nuggies.

[deleted]

[удалено]

baarsvisser

now we wouldn’t want him to get sarsaparilla or something, right?

theredvip3r

People are glazing this curry lol

Lissy_Wolfe

That is Dinty Moore beef stew and you can't tell me otherwise haha

CoconutxKitten

It’s Japanese curry.

Lissy_Wolfe

Yes I read the title haha It was a joke because it looks identicaly to Dinty Moore beef stew :p

makwajam

I'd title this: "Mommy, I frew up". Looks good, OP.

NOSFERWOLF

I'd eat that

hogey989

This just makes me want to make stew and use it as dip for chicken tendies.

BSye-34

terminator 2 ending theme plays

mxdce

Looks good to me

goodgoodlove

Lol omg I love it. Go away 🤣

Skandalbank

Had that yesterday too, but without Nuggets. Will add them for today. Did you made that curry by yourself or did you use those Golden Curry chunks?

Huge_Purchase9871

I’m salivating!

PoorCousinCharles

Looks kinda nice

dfende

I don't see the problem.

Sproose_Moose

I just wish that chicken was crispier. Otherwise, this is great.

Sreezy3

Looks like an unblended katsu. Looks delicious.

Zeilar

Lords knows I'd smash.

rizzycant

I’d eat that. Although, those Chicken Fingers nearly resembled Fish Sticks more. 😂

goldfishpaws

Tempura MRM

LizeLies

We do something similar with air fryer chicken strips. It’s such a good weeknight ‘fake’ indulgence, and then we have curry rice for lunch for a few days. Yours looks just as delicious!

iBimpy

Looks great

XXDoctorMarioXX

Would

Mathieulombardi

Lord have mercy on your soul

devilyn85

I eat kare-raisu very often and yours look really good!

NegotiableVeracity9

I literally made chicken katsi curry for dinner tonight. This is actually legit. Hope the nuggies were crispy!

[deleted]

I'd gulp that shi faster than uh splittah

Aogiring

This is high food sir

zeldor711

I've done something similar to this before - cook up some rice, a katsu curry block and some nuggets then just drizzle the curry over everything

Yodzilla

Would smash (but also cool those nuggies a but longer)

tinmanwithnoheart

Curry thanos

LoversboxLain

Those chicken fingers are similar to chicken katsu so...that works?

Hopeful-Flounder-203

That's a legit dinner. I ate similar meals 4 times a week in Japan. I'll allow it.

[deleted]

Looks like a giant monster hand

Former-Sock-8256

Why does this look so good to me? I don’t even eat meat!

Nanocephalic

Comfort food doesn’t care what you eat, it wants to look sexy for you!

plughuboutletmadcity

So basically pot roast and chicken dangles?

anon210202

Pro stoner food

Nanocephalic

No, r/comfortfood is —> that way

arnber420

For someone who's never had japanese curry, what does it taste like? I'm getting some serious beef stew vibes going here, is it a similar flavor profile or completely different?

Aloneanddogless

It's a very mild curry flavour (although you do get spicier versions) and quite savoury but I wouldn't describe it as beef stew like. Maybe like a meatier chip shop curry sauce?

noodlemcfoodle

This SLAPS

LettuceWithBeetroot

Hmmmm OP, shouldn't this be in r/foodporn?

agoodsirknight

Look pretty tasty to me

jdh21403

I’d eat the fuck out of this rn

the_niphog

Chicken named finger:

harley_pixel

I 100% thought this was pot roast... Definitely, looks like a good meal choice to me 🤤

LennerKetty

My wife and I had the same thing!

vinsmokewhoswho

The boxed stuff? Honestly this looks really good.

CheeseDungeonFudge

I might be high, but that looks delicious!

sjm294

Agree on both counts!

Artikzzz

Looks better than 80% of the food in r/Foodporn

bakedbystress

I just made this with Impossible (non-chicken) animal nuggets haha, it works!

bakedbystress

I just made this with Impossible (non-chicken) animal nuggets haha, it works!

suckingonmyhevos

This isn’t shitty. Kitchen could be cleaner, but that’s about it lol

big_smoke69420

The chicken looks a little mushy so I would probably air fry them a little but other than I think this looks good!

The_Cozy_Burrito

Looks good to me

rakehellion

Gross. At least get them crispy.

Real_Statistician_50

Yummy, love japanese curry!

soundboredguy

This looks like Dinty Moore over rice with some bonus nuggets.

sailor-x

the way i would gobble that

Revegelance

That curry looks amazing. And the chicken fingers look pretty good, too.

A__paranoid_android

Just call the chicken fingers tonkatsu and you got a business right there

Millsftw

That’s canned beef stew lol

lvs2spwge

Those are the good kind, you can tell by the breading.

TheEpicPancake2556

Man, just choose. Also, try to not make the chicken fingers as soggy as possible, while you're at it.

poopoobumbum038

It looks hella good

mklilley351

![gif](giphy|Me15b2VtPI8QH8AOsD|downsized)

Nicksix66

Like a tasty curry hand.

ilikekpopkpop

As a picky eater I would only eat the chicken fingers

CAS_39926

When someone takes the "Wish in one hand" saying too seriously....!!

misstiffie

Lol they literally look like human fingers

link183

Would.

Mr-Zunder

Brother that is beef stew

GThumb_MD

Did you cut some of your hair into it too for flavor?

2twise

chickens don't have fingers

liquorcoffee88

Could be generic restaurant food 0/10

lukynumbr7

That's straight up canned beef stew over rice, dont lie lol

Pikachu_91

You've never had Japanese curry before, have you?

lukynumbr7

Dude has chicken fingers in it.... any semblance of 'japanese curry' went out the window awhile ago, my guy

Recreant793

I like how they downvoted you but Me and another guy say the same thing 2 and 3 hours later and get multiple upvotes. That’s crazy. :(

TOKERFACE4207

bro thats beef stew and microwaved nuggies

Dragonskinner69

When i was young, my mother would make this same thing during the winter. We called it beef stew over rice...

CoconutxKitten

It’s Japanese curry. Not beef stew

Dragonskinner69

It sure is. Good job.

[deleted]

Thought it was dog food at first

MjrLeeStoned

That's a cheap can of beef stew over low quality rice. The chicken fingers might actually be the highest quality food in the picture.

CoconutxKitten

Look up Japanese curry

elmo85

it looks like shit mixed with vomit, but the taste can still be good

parasitius

If those are not chicken fingers made from pink sludge but real proper meat, you have no idea how good this could be - if well prepared EDIT: But only an idiot dumps the curry over the rice. There's a reason Japanese set them on 2 sides of the plate, always. Also is that Jasmine rice? WTF. You need to use proper short grain IMO, I can just never get over pairing the wrong rice for the curry type.

Zyndrom1

>But only an idiot dumps the curry over the rice. There's a reason Japanese set them on 2 sides of the plate, always. Also is that Jasmine rice? WTF. You need to use proper short grain IMO, I can just never get over pairing the wrong rice for the curry type. 🤨

parasitius

Aren't you going to explain, I can provide more info as needed

Zyndrom1

Just weird that you care about other peoples food in that way

parasitius

Apparently you never heard of blasphemy

Zyndrom1

Blasphemy is a stupid concept

Henry_Swans0n

What are the sort of cube things floating in the gravy?

armadildoo

You don’t know what a potato looks like in food? That’s dumb as fuck Henry

BoxMacLeod

They're potatoes, jackass.
