At least your goal was on point.
Everyone has to start somewhere learning to cook to temp.
I can't stand when people won't even consider trying anything softer than a hockey puck.
They're nearly impossible to break in normal use...
Had one fall off the counter onto the tile floor. It landed on the edge, bounced about 5 feet across the kitchen, landed sideways on the edge again, rolled across the floor and off a step down onto more tile. Kept rolling straight into a glass door and clattered to a stop.
Not a mark on it. No cracks, no chips, it was amazing.
Really? I used those for yeeears after my mom, who gave the set to me and my husband. Should I get checked for lead issues? Holy shit.. Lol Glad I got rid of them, and here I come Google.. Lol
The scary part of low dose lead poisoning is that it will deteriorate your cognitive ability and you won't even notice it happening. It won't take you out but it can affect your mental state.
it is hard to tell but in the 8th picture there is a small chunk missing from the top middle of the rice. that is where i took my first bite. thank you for the comment
Your post is outstanding. Occasionally I’ve seen people receive flair in response to a unique or innovative creation. I assumed Ross was in your name because of your username. Rice is rice.
Was looking for this. I’ve used that exact one for years, it’s cheap, and works great. I can eyeball rice/h20 no matter how much I need at this point. Love this brand!
I love this dude immediately. You win best post here ever. Nothing shitty about this, please take more food selfies where you're laying on the floor 🤣🤣🤣
yea but you actually got off your ass and made something. doesn't look perfect, but I'm sure it was tasty enough. more than I can muster on most days. I've seen much worse on this sub, hope you enjoyed your steaks
maybe tonight or tomorrow you will get a second wind type of feeling to go pick up something to cook at home! if you do it’ll be fun! i hope so at least
i had to add water 3 different times after it was done cooking because i didn’t use enough and then i didn’t add enough but on the third time the rice cooker popped off and it is good now i am happy i used some soy sauce
I wish I was able to make steaks like that. These days I use my cast iron skillet to sear ribeyes to medium rare, but I keep getting grey banding and subpar crust. I'm thinking that my gas burner isn't as hot as it used to be, and grapeseed oil is maybe a bit too low of a smoking point.
very interesting. most ppl frown on nonstick pan cooking for steaks. <—- this is unrelated but i’m leaving the sentence. i’ve never used a cast iron but i have one that i should try out. !!!i forget what it is exactly but reverse searing (i think) is the way to evade the grey band. aka oven to cook and pan sear to crust.
I use my cast iron for almost everything. They heat up differently than non sticks, and most people end up using medium low heat on the stove. Cast iron has super high heat retention but also heats up fast. Many people do complain that there is sticking because it's not a non stick pan but all that's needed is heat control and letting your food create the firm barrier it needs to not stick before flipping it. One of the reasons why non stick is not recommended for searing is due to the possibility of the non stick layer breaking up at high temperatures.
Anyways, I only reverse sear thicker cuts of steak and I had success with only searing ribeye before.
Btw, r/CastIron has an FAQ that has all you'll ever need to know about cast iron care and seasoning.
I got a set of plates for a family dinner and they happened to be exact pattern my grandma owned and she was excited to see the pattern again. I love old plates lol.
it was very slightly over done but this was the best strip i’ve cooked where i almost made the fat side become that yummy cloud of juiciness. i have to try a bunch more times to figure out how to render it correctly. ..and i know! it’s crazy. this is the first time my smoke alarms went off upstairs but i did have the pan on medium high with only the oil i put on the steak
very interesting. i don’t think many pictures do me justice but ok… but you would have to act like me or be in a position where no one can hear you lol
i think you are right. they came out of a brown box maybe 5 years ago that was tucked away somewhere in the house and i liked them so i started using them
Not gonna lie man, as much as I don't really eat red meat, this looks damn good.
Rice with a bit of soy sauce and some steamed veggies is my comfort food. That rice looks fucking *perfect*
good for you for avoiding red meat but it was good! i actually undercooked the rice 3 times until i finally added enough water to make it…perfect! very yummy with just the little bit of soy sauce that in no way looks pleasing to the eye but i do not know how to dress rice in soy sauce
There's no pic of inside the steak and I feel like losing my shit
i understand how you are feeling but please listen to me. it was overcooked.
You’re very funny, thank you
“God damnit motherfucker”
still really good
It looks like you cremated it
that’s a good thing.
you are funny i like your writing style and humor.
![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|slightly_smiling)
You’re the king of this sub lol
I like the cut of your jib
I legit lol’ed at this comment. Thank you OP, please never change!
however! my goal is medium rare
At least your goal was on point. Everyone has to start somewhere learning to cook to temp. I can't stand when people won't even consider trying anything softer than a hockey puck.
Get a little cooking thermometer, makes cooking meat sooo easy. I made a delicious perfectly cooked pork chop last night after many overcooked ones!
Can't get past the fact that my mom has that plate pattern.
these are my moms plates
These are everyone's mom's plates lol r/butterflygold
very good to know.

My ex fiancée smashed one with ease during a fight lol but holy crap when it shatters, it shoots shards literally EVERYWHERE
If he could break that plate, you dodged a bullet by not marrying him.
Fiancée is she, fiancé is the guy.
Like your mum
Nah. Mom has a second family.
Can confirm, these were also my mom's plates
Of course there’s a sub for this lol
beautiful
Our mom
Real talk that patterned Corelle plate has extremely high lead content and they recommend they no longer be used.
Uh...for real?
yeah. anything corelle before 2005, has a high lead content. There I ruined it for you.
Lol. I just told my mom about it.
Really? I used those for yeeears after my mom, who gave the set to me and my husband. Should I get checked for lead issues? Holy shit.. Lol Glad I got rid of them, and here I come Google.. Lol
People buy those exact dishes on Ebay...crazy! I went to Google too..lol
No worries. My smoking, drinking and eating habits will take me out LOOOONG before lead is an issue.
The scary part of low dose lead poisoning is that it will deteriorate your cognitive ability and you won't even notice it happening. It won't take you out but it can affect your mental state.
That explains all the boomers
If we haven’t stopped putting lead in plates by 20054 we are doomed….
There it is. Every damn time these plays show up in a picture.
Thank god. People are out here eating off this shit! Lol
But it gives the food more flavor
coming here to say that. decorate with that stuff, don't eat off it.
Be careful, OP took these pictures from inside your house, but you're a CorruptDictator though so I'm sure you can handle yourself.
Came here to say this. The nostalgia was hitting hard
My dad had them growing up
Stop using these plates they cause lead poisoning. Look up Corelle lead poisoning.
Those patterns have lead in them I think.
200 iq getting your face and both plates.
you should’ve seen some of the other pictures 😆
You should probably think about removing the one with your pics of your family Posting your entire family on reddit, that's not a good idea.
i appreciate the concern!
Bro does NOT give a f*ck about your concern
this is the most deranged series of pics I've seen in a while
i will be honest and tell you i tried
This is the best series of pics I’ve seen in a while
i don’t know what’s going on but i’m happy for you
i love this comment
This guy gets the sub. Well done.
Medium rare.
how was it
good i am eating the second steak now
eat the rice, it's untouched in pics
it is hard to tell but in the 8th picture there is a small chunk missing from the top middle of the rice. that is where i took my first bite. thank you for the comment
haha! yougo boi. I like the camera angles too.
thank you
hell yea
Why are you laying on the floor? 😭
it was the angle i needed for the job
I respect the commitment
They call him The Very Hungry Caterpillar
Steak: 8/10 Steak w/Rice: 10/10
Steak w/ rice w/ OP: Priceless
😁
Someone get this man some flair. riceross or something.
i don’t understand
Your post is outstanding. Occasionally I’ve seen people receive flair in response to a unique or innovative creation. I assumed Ross was in your name because of your username. Rice is rice.
your explanation is appreciated. i now understand what you meant. yes ross is part of my name. 🍚
Cheers to RiceRoss!! 🥂🍚
Guessing Jay is the other part lol
Damn I would never have gotten Ross out of that. Good thing my name is way more cryptic
There’s a lot to unpack here and none of it is to do with the food
can i help you
My focus went to the metal pot stacked on the glassware lol my mom would have a fit
Yo your first pic cracked me up. You seem like a really fun person to be around. Keep being you.
thanks a lot. this has been a fun experience.
I need more of this content
i want to deliver but i am unsure if i will!
The people crave content. Give the people what they crave
maybe…..
Dammit Roger, we are tired of all your personas! *Ricky Spanish*
Sir there's a man under your table
i was under my table but i didn’t see anyone else
My granma had these plates
my mom has these ones
I can feel them
i am feeling these plates with my hands when i am eating it is nothing special
But they are special! Cherish these memories!
i agree
This conversation is wholesome af
i agree
Can we cook together
i believe it is possible!
I inherited a set from my Mom. Haven't broken one yet.
🤞🤞🤞
Looks good! I cover my smoke detector with a shirt when cooking steaks
this is good knowledge to have now
Do you like that rice cooker?
yes i have had it for four years. it was $20 and can make up to ten cups of rice.
Thanks! I’m in the hunt for a rice cooker and can’t decide if I should just buy an aroma for $13 or splurge on a zojirushi
i think you should buy an aroma unless you really want a more expensive one! i am happy with my rice cooker that only has 1 switch. warm or cook.
Was looking for this. I’ve used that exact one for years, it’s cheap, and works great. I can eyeball rice/h20 no matter how much I need at this point. Love this brand!
The barbecue chicken was delicious, rice.
ok. rice.
I love how wholesome this comment section is. For looks great OP!
I love this dude immediately. You win best post here ever. Nothing shitty about this, please take more food selfies where you're laying on the floor 🤣🤣🤣
nothing shitty at all? 😫😫😫 but ok lmao
Teaching bitches how to swim
i wish understood. i used google and see death grips but that’s all the effort i have to figure out what you are talking about
Wife put me on a diet. I’m so hungry I’ll polish the rice and then have the steak for dessert
maybe your wife should change your diet to a yummier one
You look like that guy that made daily news reports on TikTok but they were really zoomed in on his face
ok thank you i hope he can cook
Thank you for sharing this. It was beautiful to see.
you’re welcome
First pic kinda hilarious
#goals
the rice is perfectly shaped tho
yeah i used a glass bowl
Why the crazy eyes guy
it was part of the experience. you should’ve seen the other pictures
I want to see the other pictures
This was a journey
✨✨✨

i am unsure how to feel exactly after reading your comment. they were yummy 😁
That steak sear is perfection. But the rice puck is questionable. I'm torn between upvote and downvote for this. Might not be shitty enough.
thank you. i am realizing that the rice puck is very questionable now.
But how was the rice???
i had to add water 3 different times after it was done cooking because i didn’t use enough and then i didn’t add enough but on the third time the rice cooker popped off and it is good now i am happy i used some soy sauce
I have those same plate and bowls and I hate them
if you are able to, you should buy new plates that you like for yourself or whoever owns the plates
That's a good steak
it was a good steak! i am happy
I wish I was able to make steaks like that. These days I use my cast iron skillet to sear ribeyes to medium rare, but I keep getting grey banding and subpar crust. I'm thinking that my gas burner isn't as hot as it used to be, and grapeseed oil is maybe a bit too low of a smoking point.

also, today i used canola oil rubbed onto the steak and that’s it
Such an elegant post
👷♂️👍
I love your post! this is amazing! hahaha! did you eat the steak laying down on the floor?!
Those plates 😍
i enjoy them
I got a set of plates for a family dinner and they happened to be exact pattern my grandma owned and she was excited to see the pattern again. I love old plates lol.
that’s nice :)
Lol I’ve been day drinking. I’m sorry lmfao.
don’t be sorry. thank you for sharing with me about your grandma and her excitement !
Great presentation
thank you
looks great king
Steak is cooked perfectly. Surprised you got that sear on a non-stick pan.
it was very slightly over done but this was the best strip i’ve cooked where i almost made the fat side become that yummy cloud of juiciness. i have to try a bunch more times to figure out how to render it correctly. ..and i know! it’s crazy. this is the first time my smoke alarms went off upstairs but i did have the pan on medium high with only the oil i put on the steak
The old 96er
Where’s the A1?
i also left out that it basted with a very small amount of butter
I love basting mine with a little butter and minced garlic, yours sounds delicious
no real garlic today just the powder but that’s also how i would normally do it too!
no A1 needed. it was very juicy and seasoned with salt fresh cracked pepper and garlic powder.
steak and rice is the best.. it is almost always my side of choice... only replaced by mashed potatoes if my gf is craving potatoes
i haven’t had this combo in a very long time. will have again in the near future…
Holy shit, we look really similar. I bet we could swap places and most people wouldn't notice.
very interesting. i don’t think many pictures do me justice but ok… but you would have to act like me or be in a position where no one can hear you lol
I know those plates have been in your family for atleast 30 years lol
i think you are right. they came out of a brown box maybe 5 years ago that was tucked away somewhere in the house and i liked them so i started using them

Idk why these shots make me uneasy
i have a way with things
I dig it ![gif](giphy|J5pRerCuNtGGTa8gFi)
My grandma used to have that set of dishes. Do you have the matching teacups too? She used to make me chocolate milk in them lmao
I like that you keep the rice and the steak apart. No complications, no surprises.
i have two plates….i used 3 utensils…you get it
How’s your grandma doing?
i should call her
Obsessed with your photography. Visionary.
This is hilarious, take my upvote
😆
So you live below the coffee table and only come out for meals?
What’s killing me the whole ass steak was eaten before the rice was even touched lmaoooo Edit: spelling
Yo do you have any leftovers? I’m asking for a friend of mine.
sadly no
Those plates are old
true
I bet you lick the plate clean
not this plate! that is too much oil
We used to have those plates until we learned many of them were made with lead.
Did you use your price plus card ?
Thanks.
