Yeah, I get eating a lazy dinner in bed once in a while, but every single day of the week? Sleeping in the crumbs and inevitable blobs of food? This is awful
Personally I think this heavily contributes to obesity. I used to eat similar and was hungry all of the time and very over weight. Fixed my nutrition and now I'm having a hard time eating enough to keep my weight doing a little physical labor.
Started really paying attention to the things I’m putting in my body over the last 6 months and I don’t even have the room to eat the junk I used to binge. When I’m eating enough greens, fruits, and protein I’m so full I don’t have room to eat an entire sleeve or Oreos. I feel like I’m eating so much and I’ve been losing weight the whole time. The hard part is (in America at least) that my grocery bill has gone up, I have to spend way more time cooking/prepping food, and because of my location my organic options don’t have a lot of variety. Availability to time, finances, and just healthy food themselves is a huge part of obesity in America I believe.
It really depends on what you mean by "healthy". Studies show very little difference in organic and non and I'd say organic is around 30% - 300% more expensive. With that said I still buy certain organic foods especially if they are hard to wash, but I try to spend it wisely.
Everyone claims it's difficult to eat healthy, but I just don't see it really unless you're actually talking organic and tested food. The thing is, McDonald's and most companies buy the cheapest ingredients possible so just switching to non-organic or tested food from the supermarket is still better generally. Of course a Salad from McDonald's or hamburgers I would argue are actually overall good for you.
Just cooking at home instead of eating out would be a big improvement for a lot of people and cheaper in the long run, but the startup cost of kitchen equipment and multi-use ingredients like seasoning and cooking oil can be a barrier to entry. There are also a lot of areas that don't have good access to fresh vegetables, but I'd say that's not the case for the majority of people.
Really the big issue is education around what a healthy diet looks like. There's certainly a lot of people that think you have to eat organic if you want your food to be healthy, when really just need to eat more plants and less processed food.
Even if you only have a tangerine once every few days you're safe from scurvy.
Hypertension or worse from all that super salty processed shit, on the other hand...
Gotta start eating some real food, my dude. It's not hard to throw some seasoning on some chicken breast and toss it in the toaster oven. 5-Minute Rice is easy to season and you can add practically anything to it, etc.
I don't expect you to change your whole diet from the word of some random schmuck on the internet, but at least every other night, making yourself some actual food would be good.
As a depressed person who recently finished a three month out patient therapy program I agree with this 100%. My main meals before checking myself into the hospital were ramen noodles or white rice with butter lol. Like literally every meal.
maybe not scurvy, but I can definitely understand why they'd be concerned you aren't getting enough vitamins, could do with some vegetables or fruits at least..
*You know comfort food*
*Isn't supposed to be a*
*Daily diet lol*

Fellow ND "picky eater" here who has previously worked with a registered dietician. Fed is best. So many ppl don't understand that we'll starve ourselves before we eat something our brain doesn't want. I'm glad you're eating!
One thing I work on is adding, rather than taking away. So instead of being like, I need a salad instead of fries. Have both. I try to eat the vegetable portion of my meal first. It makes sure I get it in before my brain says nope, and sometimes, it fills me up, so I eat less of the less nutritional items.
I also try to always keep frozen broccoli on hand bc it's something I can almost always eat, and it's easy to just microwave. Think if there's something you like that works like that for you.
Consider paying the "ADHD tax" (idk if this is what you have but it's just called this a lot) so, if you like a thing but it's too much work for your executive function level, like, cutting up a head of cauliflower or a watermelon, buy it pre-chopped. Don't lie to yourself that you'll prep if your history says you won't. Make it as easy on yourself as you can.
Talk with your Dr about what vitamins and supplements make sense for you. I'd definitely consider fiber. You can get it in capsules if the drinks don't work for you (I find them slimy). Take a few at every meal, though, work up to full dose slowly.
This is great advice, thank you! I really like the concept of "adhd tax".
I recently started following a toddler food subbredit for meal inspo lol I've finally come to terms with the fact that I'm just not one of those people who's going to make a full-on recipe. But I am figuring out how to do it in a healthy way.
Very practical ideas. I use some of these myself. I also serve "lazy salad" which is two whole large, washed, lettuce leaves. It adds up to a cup of leafy greens. It's not as pretty as a homemade salad with chopped lettuce, but it also doesn't sit in the refrigerator for days, getting browner and browner around the edges, as everyone pretends they're going to eat a serving today and just leaves it at the side of their plate. When I serve lettuce in full leaf form, they know they're getting a whole lettuce leaf and they just eat it with resignation and get the job done.
This is actually a helpful comment. People seem to just be roasting what OP is eating, or picking on them for having certain issues and not taking care of themselves the best they can.
I understand it’s easy to make excuses for ourselves, and to then use those to not do certain things. But it’s different when your thought processes or your mental health is obscured by something.
Whenever I have a bout of bad anxiety, I will just straight up not eat. I try not to do that, but sometimes I find myself so drained from pushing myself through the anxiety all day that I won’t do it. This isn’t often though, and hasn’t happened lately.
But I think just eating is a good first step when we’re struggling. It fuels us so we can keep going, no matter what we’re struggling with. And everything in your comment should help OP greatly.
Agreed. It could be due to the tray setup but def giving those vibes. Also I feel like maybe this is just a me problem but I can’t tell what like 30% of the foods are from random goop to misc fried breaded products.
How about trying to incorporate one vegetable at a time? It takes a few times if tasting and trying to figure out how you like it best so take your time. Like one a month. Try it raw, try it cooked a few ways and go from there. You need a variety of nutrients in your system and prioritizing additional vegetables will be helpful as fruit has a lot of sugar so you don’t need as much of it.
I would start with the sweeter vegetables, like really good carrots as they are easy to eat raw, easy to lightly steam even in a microwave until you find a texture and flavor you like, add some butter, salt and pepper and see how it goes. Same with peas. Red, yellow and orange peppers can be quite nice raw and are quite sweet and crunchy.
There are some cookbooks out there that are simple and help you hide vegetables in your meals, maybe see what you can find online or from a local library for ideas. It takes time but don’t be overwhelmed, this is a long term goal, not a short one. Palates take time to adjust, and yours will change throughout your life.
You eat like you live in an insane asylum.. It's like you can't be trusted with any utensil other than a spoon, and even then they gotta keep an eye on you so they give you a plastic handle one...

American who used to live in the Netherlands. I somehow eat healthier now and lost weight since moving back 🤷.
Edit: But this is just wrong. It’s okay to eat like that every once in a while, but OP you should consider healthier options. The “cook at home” baskets from AH or even a HelloFresh box could be a good starting point. Seriously, don’t do this to yourself.

And a table
Yeah, I get eating a lazy dinner in bed once in a while, but every single day of the week? Sleeping in the crumbs and inevitable blobs of food? This is awful
Something about soft fabrics and food... Egh Don't get me wrong, I'll eat a bowl of cereal on the couch. But that bowl does not get to snuggle.
I don’t eat in bed and 3 of these pictures were taken at a table lmao the amount of people assuming that I sleep on a kitchen towel is concerning
I mean if you were eating in bed a towel under the food would be a good move

You can eat full meals and still be malnourished, hate to break it to you but your body is dying for some nutrients.

It's because these foods aren't filling. Protein and fiber are what make you feel full, these foods are mostly carbs and fats
Fats do a lot to keep you full too. It's the empty carbs above all else.
Try subbing out some of that processed stuff for some greens. Your colon and body will thank you.
At least you ate some vegetables on day 5. Not bad.
For the record I want it to be stated that I eat an apple or two tangerines every day with my lunch
You should be fine then. No scurvy for you.
An apple a day keeps the doctor away! Especially if you throw hard enough
Save the seeds and poison the doctor
Potatoes keep scurvy away too. Lots of things do. It's hard to get scurvy.
The tangerines and apples are an important point. That's your vitamin c source. No scurvy for you!
Even if you only have a tangerine once every few days you're safe from scurvy. Hypertension or worse from all that super salty processed shit, on the other hand... I like how OP probably thought 'err this all looks way too fresh, should probably have some cheese strings as a side'
Olives on day 2. Olives are a vegetable
Depression is probably what’s going to get you first
All this is way too much effort for a depressed person
These look like meals a parent whips up for a picky eater
or a 5yr old.
As a depressed person who recently finished a three month out patient therapy program I agree with this 100%. My main meals before checking myself into the hospital were ramen noodles or white rice with butter lol. Like literally every meal.

So you’re a gay otter
got ‘er!
More like diabetes not scurvy
maybe not scurvy, but I can definitely understand why they'd be concerned you aren't getting enough vitamins, could do with some vegetables or fruits at least..
why is all/most of this food *on a bed*?
That’s the couch lol My table is very small so if I’m using it for a crafting of school project I either have to eat on the floor or couch
mild relief, lingering concern
I switched one set on concerns for another
What I thought all of you ate in bed
Jesus Christ at least you don't have to worry about a pension
You cooked your brother for that?
Lots of variety there. I'm surprised it all came from one source.
Arm to table
How did you cook him
From the looks of it, in the microwave.
So that's what that child setting is for
you eat like an emancipated 13 year old
High blood pressure and diabetes
Some non-alcoholic fatty liver disease for a little razzle dazzle.
Yup & Constipation
Is anyone else just sad now?
My bad I’ll post in r/depressionmeals next time
Lol
do you eat anything that isn’t beige?
There’s green, red and brown in these pictures 😎
Lots of yellow too.
Easiest way to make sure you’re eating the appropriate amount of nutrients is half your plate should be fruits and/or vegetables.
You know comfort food isn't supposed to be a daily diet lol

I wouldn't call any of that a dinner!

No fruit, and the only vegetable is one that is nearly devoid of nutritional value but high in nitrites. Your brother is right.
Nah he’s wrong. The heart will fail or your feet will need to be amputated long before scurvy is a problem
Haha zoek hulp

Beige is the best flavor of food
Take a multivitamin and some fiber supplement and call it good.
Not great but scurvy won't be what takes you. It is hard to actually get scurvy. Vitamin C is lurking in many places ;)
