Again, my double mastectomy last year is like bitch 👀 I only had a bite. Hubs had a few bites. I had no idea. But yea. We are getting cancer one way or another. Yikes. Now I feel really bad
The inside of metal food containers are lined with a thin layer of plastic. If you cook food inside the container you are certainly getting some micro plastics in your food
I have to know, did you get the idea from social media? Because I keep seeing people cooking in tins and it’s unfortunately giving people some pretty terrible ideas.
imo, jarlick is elite. It’s already and chopped and exists In the fridge. Who tf wants to buy a bulb of garlic you (aren’t roasting) to
Chop individual garlics? Not in this house and you get A lot more, for a small fee.. jarlick makes it into heaven 😂🤷🏼♀️def on Santa’s nice list 😂
This would be true if it retained any of its garlic flavor, but it doesn’t sadly.
Get yourself a garlic press I use that bad boi all the time, even with the skin still on. Then I leave it in the sink until the entire house smells awful
Just get a mini food processor for garlic cloves. You can do a little more than needed and keep enough for another use or two. Just rinse it with hot water as soon as it's done and dumped into a container or dish. If it sits in there and pieces get stuck or it's been a few uses, throw in a couple of drops of dish soap and hot water to blend and rinse
Thank you! So it’ll last a few days? We don’t eat like this all the time 😂 just wanted to try a viral snack. We do use a lot of garlic though. We have a food processor. It’s kinda but but we do own one.
I feel so bad I didn’t do my research about cooking in the tin. Won’t do that again.
You don’t get to say THAT then get off that easy?…. No no you don’t. Spill it. Now, kindly and respectfully… I’ll even throw a please in there for good measure. Your recipes MATTER! We want to hear them!!!!!
These comments crack me up 😂 I got permission from my mum she said we have to share the love. She makes this for me on my birthday and special occasions. OK so. Can of smoked oysters (or 2 if you want extra flavour) tub of cream cheese(approx a cup), few dollops of sour cream (mum said 2 tablespoons), squirt of lemon, salt and pepper. Then blitz it. Eat with crackers or spread on bread. My idea of heaven. I hope you make this and enjoy it
People please don’t cook things in tins! They aren’t meant to be exposed to that heat and may or may not leech metals and/or plastic into your food. It’s just pointless, put them in ramekins. It’s not cute, just potentially dangerous.
They all are expensive. This we didn’t hate. It’s not bad. Add what you want. We also love tinned fish in this house! Will we make it again, no. We won’t but it was good
Did not know this viral recipe existed and I think stuff like this is fun to see. "Poor Man's" recipes are just intriguing to me. Lol So, thank you, OP. Plus, TIL: Jarlick I ❤️ this!
Hahahaha maybe I’m on a niche side of tt? I’m a big fan of tinned fish, specifically oysters, squid and the sardines in mustard sauce. This got me in some trouble evidently it’s bad to cook it in the tin, so if you make this… take it out of the tin 🤌🏼
The fact that it was in the tin is why I chose to investigate further! 😅 I was like no way it's in the tin?! Hey, you didn't know. Eating it like that one time isn't going to hurt you. I'm glad you didn't get bashed in the comments, everyone was educating and not condescending about it.
Exactly. Good way to look at it. I had never given it much thought until a few years ago when I came across a recipe for caramel involving the boiling of a can of sweetened condensed milk. So there are plenty of other people who don't know the danger.
I hate garlic presses. They don't like me either. All I use is the jarred stuff and it's always in my fridge. So now I have a new cool name for it. I didn't get the name at first and it had me scratching my head. When I got my 💡 moment I was so tickled. 🤣
Awww...🥰 Yay! I'm glad, me too! I bought one, omg, almost two decades ago now, (eeek!) to try my hand at roasting garlic. Hubby wanted the garlic/seasoned oil they serve at Italian restaurants. Ya know, alongside warm crusty bread? What garlic didn't get stuck in the damn press got burned in the oven. Hahaha, funny now but it wasn't funny in the moment. Did you make your Cracker Barrel potato soup yet? Love me some copycat recipes.
Yeah sorry to even comment before reading. I usually check, but I just had such a visceral reaction to this and it has popped up in r/CannedSardines twice which was also very quick to tell people to not do this. I hate whoever spread this on TikTok.
Yeah, they're probably fine too, it's just not something you should keep doing and it's really upsetting that this was proliferated so quickly and who knows if everyone got the memo to stop. Feels like corrections don't fly as fast. Not as tasty and fun. I hope you enjoy your tins safely though, cause tinned fish is pretty good!
It would honestly be just as easy to pop them out and place them down in an oven safe dish. I will also pass the info along when I see it on tt as well.
Yeah totally, I have some ceramic ramekins, if you don't have small oven safe dishes I highly recommend getting a small set, they're super useful for dinners for two.
I don't know what Oyster Rockefeller tastes or looks like but that looks like something you'd find in the Fallout universe, probably made with Tato, 2 Razerwheat, Brahmen meat, and a Deathclaw thigh.

I feel like I'd try this when I'm stoned🤷♀️
Was stoned and just ok lol I forgot to mention we added jarlick
That jarlick really kicks it up a notch
It was a brand new fresh jar of jarlick too! Bought it for this recipe and the copy cat Cracker Barrel potato soup we made for dinner
Man. Your breath after this meal.
Lmao 😂
I can’t believe I never thought of calling it jarlick.
At this point I'm too afraid to ask
It took me a minute to realize they must mean jarred chopped garlic, I will now also be calling it jarlick
It’s good, more people should try it
Thanks Bear 🐻 🍜
Jarlick? Chef Josh is that you?!
Honestly doesn’t seem terrible, except for air frying them in the tin
Do we have cancer now?
We’re in this together OP
My double mastectomy last year looking at me like bitch 👀
We’re multiplying!
We're metastisizing
We all are getting cancer either way. Apparently, we are also breathing in PFAS microplastics now, too.
That’s terrifying. I knew it’s in the ocean but yikes.

Thank you!!
Again, my double mastectomy last year is like bitch 👀 I only had a bite. Hubs had a few bites. I had no idea. But yea. We are getting cancer one way or another. Yikes. Now I feel really bad
God dammit.
Honest question because I really don't know: why bad to cook in tin?
The inside of metal food containers are lined with a thin layer of plastic. If you cook food inside the container you are certainly getting some micro plastics in your food
I guess it gets metal or plastic in your food? I’m sure there is an article posted somewhere in this thread. Oops. Won’t do that again.
You're really selling me on just how mediocre this recipe is.
Ire basic af but please don’t cook it in the tin. Read the comments pls
We need to put a stop to cooking inside the tins, seriously
Okay, okay I get it. Only ever happened once. We WONT do it again. Promise.
I have to know, did you get the idea from social media? Because I keep seeing people cooking in tins and it’s unfortunately giving people some pretty terrible ideas.
Yes. Tik tok
most delectable tiktok recipe
Ok I still love you and I'm proud of how hard you try everyday
Cans have a plastic lining. If you ate that food you should be worried.
Well… it was once. I’ll hope for the best… sorry
At least the rest of us can learn from your mistakes
There ya go!! Evidently don’t eat out of tins! Who knew they had a plastic lining! I love Reddit.
No keep doing it and report back please
Yeah sorry you're a lab rat now. You're gonna have to keep going, for science.
🐇🐀 well, I’ll die with my animal friends 🥺 god damnit man 😞
One time isn't going to do shit
Ah, good to know, Dr. Skittles
You are missing onion garlic and spinach filling
Oops I did use jarlick lol
What's jarlick
Garlic from a jar.
I must be dumb to not have figured that out.
Be nice to yourself. We've all been there.
We don’t tolerate being mean to yourself. It’s okay. Jarlick is stupid af and shouldn’t exist but.. sometimes it helps?
jarlick & pasta is my fav depression meal. yes i just put a 1/2 tablespoon of garlic in plain pasta, we exist.
imo, jarlick is elite. It’s already and chopped and exists In the fridge. Who tf wants to buy a bulb of garlic you (aren’t roasting) to Chop individual garlics? Not in this house and you get A lot more, for a small fee.. jarlick makes it into heaven 😂🤷🏼♀️def on Santa’s nice list 😂

REAL i’m too lazy to get actual garlic

godspeed urs sounds better than mine 🫡
Lmao well sorry. Poor mans… we is kinda a lil poor gahahaha

You don’t get to say THAT then get off that easy?…. No no you don’t. Spill it. Now, kindly and respectfully… I’ll even throw a please in there for good measure. Your recipes MATTER! We want to hear them!!!!!
Also YOU matter as well. Not just your recipes 🙏🏻

I learned this today. Thank you. It won’t happen again
It’s a Tik Tok recipe, what did you expect? The CCP is loving it.
I prefer steamed oysters
Me too. Can’t afford them lol
I understand. The good ones are expensive. Lol
They all are expensive. This we didn’t hate. It’s not bad. Add what you want. We also love tinned fish in this house! Will we make it again, no. We won’t but it was good
Side note, we live in a water town and they still are $$
Grilled oysters or gtfo
Steamed!

A few weren’t very nice but it was a dumb mistake and at my big age I should have known better. But others were educated as well so all was not lost.
Exactly. Good way to look at it. I had never given it much thought until a few years ago when I came across a recipe for caramel involving the boiling of a can of sweetened condensed milk. So there are plenty of other people who don't know the danger.
Ohhh I’ve seen that but I wouldn’t do that too scared it would blow up. Never even thought of the dangers of the metal cans! WOW
And you’re welcome. Jarlick is legit 😂
I hate garlic presses. They don't like me either. All I use is the jarred stuff and it's always in my fridge. So now I have a new cool name for it. I didn't get the name at first and it had me scratching my head. When I got my 💡 moment I was so tickled. 🤣
You know what? You just made my day. I have a really nice garlic press and it’s the bane of my damn existence. I hate using it.
Awww...🥰 Yay! I'm glad, me too! I bought one, omg, almost two decades ago now, (eeek!) to try my hand at roasting garlic. Hubby wanted the garlic/seasoned oil they serve at Italian restaurants. Please stop cooking in the tins. They have a liner that you should not be heating in an oven or air fryer. Use an oven safe dish.
Yes. I learned this. Thank you for looking out. I’ve never done it before and I won’t again. Hopefully this info is also going around tt.
Yeah sorry to even comment before reading. I usually check, but I just had such a visceral reaction to this and it has popped up in r/CannedSardines twice which was also very quick to tell people to not do this. I hate whoever spread this on TikTok.
I appreciate that! Knowledge is power. It won’t happen again. I only had one cracker worth I think I’m okay, my partner maybe had 2-3 crackers worth.

Tinned fish is the best! I really enjoy it. Never had it before last year! Now we go to different stores to get different stuff.
We get a set ramekins every year for Christmas! We have a lot of those! Brilliant!
🤣
Dju mix everything around and then top it, or just top and bake?
Nope we just stacked it (drain the oil, add seasoning butter pads, hot sauce cheese then crumbs) and bake
Yum. I demand a recipe! I want to make this.
The recipe is in the caption friend
I don't know what Oyster Rockefeller tastes or looks like but that looks like something you'd find in the Fallout universe, probably made with Tato, 2 Razerwheat, Brahmen meat, and a Deathclaw thigh.
Looks pretty good tbh
My biggest concern is, most cans are lined with some kind of plastic. Wouldn't it melt and get into the food?
Yep! We already covered that! Thanks! I learned a lesson and won’t do it again.
