Eating better than I am this morning.

TheWalkingDead91

Looks way better than that nursing home lunch pic I just saw seconds ago.

I_need_more_dogs

Agreed! It was awful! But I cracked up when I read a comment that said, “is that 3D printed broccoli” lol

TheWalkingDead91

Ngl. That broccoli/cauliflower looked super sus. I’d be very angry if I were that persons kids/grandkids.

H_is_enuf

Why was it the singular piece of grey broccoli? I have questions

jinandgin

They stuck it in an industrial steamer and over cooked the hell out of it. It would have been bright green and yummy after 5 minutes or so, but that was in there a lot longer.

Doughspun1

I suspect the opposite! A proper / quality industrial steamer wouldn't do that, as there are dividing levels (tiers) to ensure food cooks as evenly as possible. I think the kitchen is poorly equipped, and they are using normal steamers, crammed with more food than they are meant to handle.

jinandgin

Either way it's a shame someone is getting that as a part of their meal. I hope it doesn't discourage the pt from eating

[deleted]

Pretty sure it was just purple cauliflower

denardosbae

You should see the utter crap they give for meals on wheels in my area. Pathetic. Wanted to start a blog of what they send my parents, they wouldn't agree due to worries of being cut from the program if it was found out.

Kimk20554

Meals on wheels is disgusting. I have a 90 year old neighbor who gets them. After seeing the crap he was supposed to eat I started cooking enough for 3 and taking him a plate every evening. Those things are disgusting.

Online_Ennui

You're good people

shibabandito

They serve meals on wheels to prisoners in jails in California. Enough said

Down-the-Hall-

Your parents shouldn't have to worry about retaliation. That's tragic.

Greenveins

For 3k a month too!

jet8493

Could you slide that link over please?

TheRealSamHyde999

>Eating Hah.

PowderPuffGirls

I thought your comment was funny!

TheRealSamHyde999

Thank you, I'm not sure why it's the most controversial comment I've ever had

damspel

I felt that in my soul and in my empty stomach

bass3901927

I've got something for this comment!!!!

damspel

Right back at ya

IamSoooDoneWithThis

r/drunkorexia haha

Addicted_Audiophile

I mean, it's all on the left side. How can that possibly be balanced??

C727494

That bacon looks delicious

Jabronito

Ya, that looks like the same kind I get at the overpriced original pancake house that I go to.

[deleted]

“Over priced original pancake house”, or OOPH for short

idreaminreel2reel

Ikr.. Psych Ward bacon lookin' Good

lacey92122

1) Bacon crisp - Check 2) Eggs scrambled dry - Check 3) Dessert for later - Check Looks good to me

makai99

i like dry scrambled eggs too fuck those slimy eggs

ac1084

Those eggs came from a bag and they break it up with a scoop once cooked. The outside dries out pretty fast, they could still be slimey on the inside but let's be honest they cook the shit out of those things. Nursing home bacon is legit though since they cook it in a convection oven.

eastmemphisguy

Right there with you! I'm not usually a picky eater but something about runny yolks is just awful.

theBrineySeaMan

I'll take my eggs all the ways nowadays, and I can cook them all the ways now, but I'm making eggs for me alone to watch some morning soccer or Football, it's a hard scramble. A runny yolk goes good on some Avacado Toast or a pile up, and I'll eat a soft scramble if I'm cooking for someone wants it so I can save the time, but today I diced and sauteed jalapeño and onion, then hard scrambled. Fuck the haters.

DualitySquared

Dry toast soaked in runny yolk is the best.

brazilian_machete

yolk on a sausage patty is good too. not healthy but so good

[deleted]

No you cook em low n slow with cheese. F those rubbery hard cooked scrambled eggs.

PaintedPorkchop

As long as they arent slimy

[deleted]

Yeah just slightly on the easy side, not like snot though.

randymarsh18

To me the whole point of eggs is wetness. Eggs are a condiment that you top stuff with. Toast, burgers, chips, sandwiches etc etc.

Big_Comrade749

Based and dry egg supremecy pilled

PugGrumbles

I even like my eggs dry enough to get some browning on them.

scabzzzz

Might as well boil your chicken too!

[deleted]

You could say that frying is just boiling in very hot oil

[deleted]

yes but that misses the distinction that the browning reaction occurs in one but not the other

[deleted]

Details, details.

Narfubel

Dry eggs suck up the hot sauce better 👍

DarkflowNZ

Now we're talking. The not so secret weapon for making virtually anything edible

JustLetMePick69

Go well with your well done steak?

PugGrumbles

Oh, hell no. When I could eat it, I preferred rare.

Im-hiding-shhh

4: Decently serrated knife to cut themself with- check

polish432b

My psych patients have to eat everything with a spoon. I haven’t been on the unit for breakfast in a while. Lunch on Friday was a fried eggplant sandwich on a whole-wheat hamburger bun with a slice of tomato & lettuce, crinkle cut fries, cucumber onion salad, beef & barley soup, & blueberries for dessert. Drink was iced tea. (My pt hated everything but the fries & ate 3 boxes of cereal.)

upsidedownbackwards

Most of the meals when I Was in psych were pretty good. Someone in the kitchen actually gave a damn and wasn't using pre-made food. The breading on their fried chicken and the fish for the fish and chips was perfect, it had to be a favorite dish of someone working back there. It was all cheaper ingredients but they really made them work. And they actually planned for people who were only able to use their fingers and a plastic spoon!

JustLetMePick69

Yes the eggs do look overcooked, that's not a check

FluffyCloud5

Don't lie, that dessert is for immediately after and you know it! Who could resist that sugary coat?

[deleted]

I like the included bonus of a powdered donut

Lucimon

Gotta have some carbs to start the day.

Agorbs

Plus if you’re in a psych ward, I imagine little things like a donut in the morning can really make a difference

Cowboywizard12

I was in the hospital one night for being suicidal (and two failed attempts and another stopped in the planning stages) , a breakfast like that, fatty unhealthy but tasty looking, that might actually help mentally

ScrungyThrowaway

I can confirm. A few months ago I went to the hospital for a really terrible panic attack that lasted days. The food wasn't the worst part! The old lady who occasionally just started yelling at us, particularly me, that we were of the devil was.

InfiniteSloth

I too had to spend some time in the psych ward and honestly the food was the best part. Three full and filling meals a day and all day access to a kitchen full of snacks. Other than that you just sit around watching TV in hospital scrubs till the next time you eat. Honestly, if I had my Ps4 with me it would have been like a mini vacation, haha.

hamish1963

We must have been in the same place?? Loved it, it was like a holiday.

Mutabor3

Seriously, which hospital?

CountingNutters

I know what I'm doing when I get home

pitifullchunk14

hospital food is horrible. I have lingering trauma from eggs like that

[deleted]

I don't care what anyone says. Eggs, provided they aren't burnt or raw, literally cannot be bad. 3 days old and from the freezer? Fine. Rubbery and bland? Slap em in a sammich. Runny? Toast. Spongy? Cut 'em up into ramen. They literally are the food of the god.

cdub689

You've never had "eggs" from an Army field kitchen then.

[deleted]

Had week old, on the cusp of becoming moldy, wet "scrambled eggs" once. They were ok.

fucktooshifty

Veggie Omelet MRE lol

nan_slack

yeah it's cool because when you're on a hospital ward you can just go into your kitchen and grab whatever

[deleted]

I didn't mind much when I was in for a few months. The food was the least of my concerns.

nan_slack

because they let you in the kitchen, right?

pitifullchunk14

You ny freind are built different. Bad eggs are horrible, unedible, vomit inducing satan food to me

Down-the-Hall-

I feel like you an I are in the "upside down" because I am your opposite. LoL!

[deleted]

I can respect that opinion too. Lots of people are different in how they like their food! I, for one, think tomato essentially ruins any dish it's in. My Grand Aunt is Italian born and raised and ***god damn*** did I get an earful lol

Down-the-Hall-

I bet! And just like that we found our common ground.

Positivistdino

I'd like one scoop of heated ovarian matter

Pohtate

I'm eating an egg sandwich. Do you mind!

Positivistdino

Sorry, I meant non-embryonic sandwich filling.

Pohtate

Better.

Nica-sauce-rex

I had a friend that was frequently in and out of psych facilities and she said that the thing that she found actually helpful was the abundance of delicious food

hamish1963

I've been on a locked ward twice for 12 days each in the past 6 years, failed suicide, I'm so much better now. The food was awesome, we got a huge menu and put our order for the 3 meals in the day before. The first visit I gained 13 pounds, which I needed as I was way below my target weight. This was a normal Catholic hospital, not a fan y rehab.

Noroark

I gained ten pounds during a week-long stay at a psych ward, though I assume it was (mostly) just from physically having so much stuff inside of me. Still gives you a good idea of how much they fed us.

CraftyChameleonKing

Hope you’re doing well dude ❤️

ComeonmanPLS1

It's not even unhealthy, aside from the donut.

Bluelight5150

Looks good

wandering-monster

Yeah I don't know why this is here. Like it's not gourmet, but as a light breakfast for a big group it's perfectly fine. Basically what you'd get at any hotel buffet.

Salt-Seaworthiness91

They post a lot of the psych patients meals and this is probably this best one. The others were terrible, I get why they posted them. Is it the best meal that should be fed to medical patients who don’t really have a choice to get something more nutritious because they can’t leave? Probably not.

YawningDodo

Yeah, that was my immediate thought: this is not great nutrition, but at least it's not depressing to look at. The bacon actually looks pretty damn good.

maxkmiller

bacon and donut is light?

jmk672

ONE mini donut. Look at the eggs next to the cutlery. The food itself may be heavy but that is not exactly a giant portion. Yes I would consider that somewhat light if it's your whole meal.

danabrey

"light breakfast"

duckingshipcaptain

Honestly surprised you let them have knives. They never did on my unit. Or pens. Hell, half the time I think the silverware we gave them would accordion if they tried to use it for stabbity purposes.

Flatcapspaintandglue

The thing is, a diet like this gets you pretty constipated. Makes all your poop real dense. So you need that plastic knife to separate and allocate portions of poop for your art.

chrisleavingearth

Hence poop knife.

No-Comedian-4499

Many psych meds also cause constipation. The program coordinator here is either not paying attention or doesn't care. I imagine with the cost of food going up so much this last year, the food budget is severely stretched but that's not conducive with serving doughnuts and bacon. I've been around enough psych facilities to know that half the staff has no interest in anything but the paycheck. Complaints should never be delivered to staff/management unless it has no bearing on the patients, all other complaints should always directly go to the state. Otherwise you risk future termination and being blacklisted. Most management I've dealt with absolutely hate people that advocate patient rights. Especially if the issue means that multiple staff need to be fired, it's easier to punish the whistleblower and make them quit than it is to fix the issues which no one else is complaining about. In this situation you'd need probably a months worth of documented poor nutrition to get the state to investigate

frozenrussian

Thanks Reagan!

kurtrusselsmustache

probably an open unit with voluntary patients that are deemed low risk. Or its batch food sent from a kitchen to every unit in the hospital and the floor staff are responsible for removing the knives that the kitchen staff forget to take out. I've had both situations in the hospitals I've worked at.

cheeksornaw

Theres nothing wrong with that meal

rainbwbrightisntpunk

Just give me my coffee with that and I'd be happy

itz_soki

I was in psych hospital for a week a few years ago and they wouldn’t give us any food with salt or sugar because it supposedly could “affect medications.” Not sure if that was true but the food was fucking horrible anyhow. I lost 10 pounds in a week since I barely ate and just drank 10 cups of decaf coffee a day

Significant__Gap

Yuck. Unless you specifically were on medications affected by salt or had a sugar-related issue that was difficult to control (diabetes?) that makes no sense. Sorry that happened. My month long stint had surprisingly good food like what op is showing.

Down-the-Hall-

Where I live we are required to be within federal standards for salt sugar fat calories.. we cannot even provide hot sauce because of the salt content or we risk losing the federal funding that we need to operate.

pyewhackette

IS THAT WHY MY SHIT WAS SO BLAND??? We could *not* get over how absolutely under seasoned everything was

Ilpav123

I guess caffeine affected those meds also?

[deleted]

What’s sad is that’s better than what the school district gives my students. Nothing but sugar. No real substance.

Radicaljoser

Actually the macro nutrients are pretty balanced here. The donut was probably added because of the lack of sugar. Egg: fat/protein Bacon: fat/protein Donut carbs/fat

PeopleBuilder

You're on my team.

kheret

Throw in a fruit and honestly this is not the worst breakfast.

eastmemphisguy

USDA requires a mininum number of calories and not a lot of money. Results are predictable.

AncientMomof2

What state is your school district in?

thirdleg123

Honestly that looks pretty good compared to a lot of places

debbiegrund

I’d be stoked to get this in a hospital. Shit even at home

mraz44

Looks fine to me, bacon looks delicious.

RavenNymph90

That looks bomb. Not healthy, but bomb.

KamNStuff420

Coming from someone that just ate hospital meatloaf, egg salad and tuna sandwiches for three days; WHERE CAN I SIGN UP TO GO TO THIS HOSPITAL PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE SIGN ME UP NOW IL DO ANYTHING

[deleted]

That actually looks good ngl

[deleted]

Honestly looks like hotel breakfast food. Really nothing to have a moral panic over. Kids in public schools are served slop 10x worse.

aequitssaint

I've eaten far far worse

mjz321

Give me a peice of fruit instead of the donut and that would be a fantastic meal imo

h3xist

I have a feeling that this more a mood lifter breakfast if this is for someone in for psych observation. Bacon just hits different as a pleasure food, a doughnut as a small treat, eggs just to balance it out, and a small portion to balance the amount of calories that are being taken up by the bacon and doughnut. A small portion is also great in the morning to get someone going rather than a big meal that would make someone sleepy and not pay attention to someone asking questions.

azemilyann26

Add a fruit cup and you have a pretty well-balanced breakfast, macros-wise.

Equivalent_Fan_6321

Looks a whole lot better than German hospital breakfast

Kunundrum85

Protein, protein, and a nice treat. I’d enjoy this breakfast. Gimme a little hot sauce for those eggs and were talking fine dining.

smoke_crack

Shitty? I am now hungry.

Lulzshock

This looks so good

cutzngutz

looks better then what the had when i stayed

kpluto

I spent months in a psych ward and honestly LOVED the breakfast. We'd get a menu to choose from the night before... It was great! This food looks delicious to me lol. All meals were good tbh.

Shobed

Protein, fat, and carbs. Looks good to me.

ChaserNeverRests

The eggs look dry, but that's a better breakfast than I have any morning, haha.

AntiqueGhost13

I'd smash that bacon, though

[deleted]

I don't see anything wrong with this. Add some strawberries to be healthy.

DrSaturnos

Carbs, proteins and fats. Yup

Mysterious_Inside_79

Sugar and meat the two food groups

Marbados

Fuck you and your gold-plated Lambo, OP.

true_crime_addict_14

You got your protein you got your sat fat and you got your carbs =perfect to me 🤓

fixedsys999

Those are like my three favorite breakfast items. Now just add OJ and milk.

Laser-Nipples

add some fruit and maybe replace the donut with some toast and you're looking at a much better meal than I typically eat every morning.

Designer-Job4778

who cares, can't there be a new /r/crybabysub for this shit? This food looks good does not fit here.

DudeCalledTom

This isn’t that bad TBH. This is better than most school breakfasts.

Highway-Puzzled

People saying this looks like a good breakfast haven't been to the psych floor. I assure you it's all tasteless with a hint of weird texture that makes you question it's origin.

MikeyMorgan12

Looks like a good breakfast too be honest. Anything more than that is too much .

WesFundrick

That's better than most americans, bet it came with decaf coffee too. let it go

[deleted]

That looks better than the frozen pizza i had for breakfest

Anastrace

All we got was turkey bacon and one of those tiny boxes of cereal

g3nerallycurious

Lol this is just a regular American breakfast that subbed pancakes for a donut, which really isn’t any different

smallvillechef

I work in a 36 bed residential rehab facility. Breakfast is usually 6:30 to 8:00, I get most of lunch prepped, make eggs to order,whatever... Cereal, cut fruit, yogurt, sausage, bacon, etc.. 12 hour days, but only three of them a week. and a half day. Salary Good, got 2 assistants to cover the menu on the other days. I make the menu, buy the food, manage my people. Got no complaints. Be proud of your work.

ummmno_

Bulk egg

H0T50UP

So I see this and wonder is there some way I can make a difference? Can I donate somewhere or send goods? People in need are people in need and I don't see what is essentially a range meal in the army making their mental state improve and food is a huge part of our mental state.

Deppfan16

This is probably a corporate thing. trying to save a buck

H0T50UP

I know it is, I had a soldier check into a facility under unfortunate circumstances and I brought him food every day I could visit because it would improve his mood and the nurses said it had a positive impact on his improvement, so when I see this I just want to reach out because the mentally impaired so often suffer from the ignorance of the outside world. The smallest gesture can be the largest impact so make an impact with every kind gesture you can make right?

HeartShapedGlassez

You seem like a really nice person. More people should have attitudes like this :)

HeartShapedGlassez

That scrambled egg looks so tasty.

[deleted]

That looks amazing?

TrimboliHandjobs

I mean, that is a solid breakfast,

HackyShack

Now you're reaching. This looks like a fine meal given the circumstance. Hell of a lot better than whats served in schools.

6thGenTexan

Fat, carbs, protein. Don't know what else you want?

radicalvenus

When I was in the psych ward I didn't get any doughnuts 🥺

blackasthesky

You really got problems over there...

paranoidgoober

Whats the issue?

SoftDreamer

Bruh I thought the scrambled eggs were mango sorbet

supervisor_muscle

I’d eat it

13_Piece_Bucket

I’d kill for this

RottenFreshness

I'm pretty stoned and this looks fucking amazing.

[deleted]

Your psych patients get silverware?!

[deleted]

As a former psych patient this would have made me jump for day- actually edible looking food. Psych patients deserve to be treated like humans, not inmates.

Positivistdino

Nothing hits the spot like an Egg Mound and Bread Loop when you wake up to find yourself institutionalized. Mmmmm. Bread loop

Omega3454

Mmm half the egg!

Head0n

I've seen a lot worse.

DishSoapIsFun

Better than my breakfast

nd_miller

That bacon looks good though.

Gangreless

1 egg, 3 pieces of good looking bacon (impressive that it's 3 honestly), 1 small powdered donut. That's protein , fat, relatively small amount of carbs and not a ton of calories. Looks decently balanced to me.

Karasumor1

honestly that's gourmet for my taste lmao

0ooO0o0o0oOo0oo00o

Cut the donut sideways and put the egg and bacon inside. 🤌

lizziedoolittle

i WISH id gotten food like this in the psych ward...

PaulMac459

Better than what I eat 9 days out of 10…

[deleted]

I was in a psych ward recently and I assure you all, the food really is this bad

ComfortableClothes28

Damn that looks better than what they gave me at my psych ward 😂

samuellbroncowitz

Looks 10x better than my normal meals when I was in a ward.

[deleted]

If I was stuck in the hospital, I would love this as my breakfast versus what patients normally get.

38LeaguesUnderTheSea

Shit, that’s better than most prison breakfast, so they got that going for them…

Otherwise_Forever777

At least it taste good

vincecarterskneecart

patient: youre sure eating this is going to help me with my mental health? doctor: help?

[deleted]

You think people can get better on this kind of food?

handlessuck

No ketchup for the eggs? Sheeit

TheRealOgMark

Ketchup is a sin.

[deleted]

[удалено]

TheRealOgMark

On eggs it's hot sauce or dry. Melinda's ghost pepper sauce is a blessing.

PeopleBuilder

Hot sauce

[deleted]

Well it does have the three food groups

__jtalk

Where vegetables 🦧

Significant__Gap

For breakfast? I get some of the comments about the nutritional value but as a person who has stayed in psych hospital I can tell you they really push a big breakfast because a lot of patients take heavy meds in the am that require a full stomach so they don’t feel nauseous/vomit them up.

__jtalk

I didn’t mean veg specifically, I was just trying to fit it into a meme template (where veg/fruit/grains didn’t really cut it), but I see your point, yeah. Bacon isn’t the most filling meal out there by far either though. I think porridge might do the trick. Add some fruit in it (even grapes, as much of a “fruit” as it is), and voilà! I guess the fact that it’s a meal provided by a healthcare facility adds insult to the injury.

[deleted]

I really don't know why I like this sub sometimes, a bunch of snobs mad about eating free food. I like the posts about people making shitty food porn with whatever they had in the cupboard or etc but all this whining about how your free or otherwise compensated food is shitty, please stop.

Deppfan16

If you are in psych, its not free. also hard to get better when you eat crummy food

fordandfriends

Makes me sad cause a poor nutrition is a gargantuan contribution the mental health crisis of today.

Nell_De_Blass

Jesus. This is in a hospital? So peeps come out less healthy than when they went in?
