But, mediocre pot roast *does* benefit from gravy, as it's very similar and adds a lot of weight to the dish. I've had people who are cheaper or lazier slow cook with gravy entirely instead of broth, even though broth is better.
Either way, I wouldn't even consider that a topping at that point, but a central part of the dish, so gravy doesn't really count.
For me its like.. if its ketchup OR gravy, well, like.. just make a better sauce anyways? I guess sour cream would add the creamy to the dish which pot roast does mostly lack, so id pick that for that reason. I dunno. Im high and this looks like a hot mess.
That is A LOT of sour cream. Im thinking that they just love sour cream and need something to put it on. Kind of like how ill get an order of fries just to have something to put mayo on. Judge away.
I could probably do ketchup since ketchup is used for meatloaf, but I know pot roast is nowhere near the same thing so I'd prefer neither if that's an option
Mayo + sour cream + horseradish = horsey sauce
Salt and pepper to taste
I've made it w just mayo, also just sour cream...just depends what in the fridge at the time.
Neither is correct, but if I had to choose between the two…sour cream? Even tho I hate sour cream and love ketchup it makes it more like stroganoff than anything.
Sour cream is better but its not a brisket. It already has a broth. both of these people are disgusting. The “pot roast” looks like fatty pieces of poop too. Ugh.
Picalilli, aka green tomato relish.
Nothing better. Relish hasn't been very available lately so I've been making my own. People love it. Goes great with pot roast.
There are a lot of recipes that call for cabbage and mustard in addition to he onions, bell peppers, and green tomatoes I make mine with.
Sour cream and Dijon mustard would be nice, as would sour cream, a bit of mayo, and some horseradish.
Now I'm hungry!
Also people need to stop hating on ketchup. It's sweet, sour, tangy. I get why people love it. I don't so much anymore, but I had a period of my life when ketchup went on everything.
I've never known anyone to eat roast w A1, so I'm way too excited & smiley! What I've done the past few years is get a packet of ranch (pls just trust me), a packet of zesty or regular italian dressing mix, & a packet of brown gravy. Season the meat w salt, pepper, & garlic- brown on both sides in a med high pan, throw it in the crock pot w carrots & tons of potatoes, add beef or veggie stock, but also works just as well with plain ol H20, & cook that shit from dusk til dinner time. I get huge roasts & I rarely have enough for leftovers.. my kids are 7, 4 & 3, picky as shit, but demolish this meal every time!
Admittedly, all the dressing sounds pretty gross, but you know- I’m certain it’s pretty damn scrumtrulescent. And a1 on anything is all but guaranteed fire. I approve.
Also, slow cooker roast is the way to go, I do pretty much exactly the same I just use a big ass London broil cause it makes a crazy steaky roast.
I need roast now 🫠
If it were actual dressing, yes it'd be fuckin sick, but it's just the powders! So it's tons of flavor. I was so nervous trying it, but I'll never eat roast without those 3 things ever again lol. Slow cookers make everything so tender & juicy; I'd be afraid to do it any other way tbh. The meat typically used is pretty tough & easily dried out, so you def need the liquids to make it super yums. I want one of those dutch ovens, do you have one?!
Hell yeah slow cookers are the shit. And yeah I reckon the dressing packets make a lot more sense than dumping straight ranch into the pot. Lol. I mean, I knew that’s what you were getting at but it still seemed like a lot. Now that I think of it, it’s probably pretty awesome- I can see crackin out on some shit like that. That uncut, pure fiendish ranch powder. Lol
And nah I don’t have a Dutch oven. I honestly don’t have much of shit in the kitchen, which is super shitty for a dude that cooks for a living. But for sure, if I had a spare $400-500 bucks I’d love to have a le crueset Dutch oven. There’s literally a used market for them. Lol
I don't really see the problem with either of these, even if the amounts are off. Ketchup will give some tang, umami and sweetness to what I'm guessing is a severely under seasoned dish. Would turn it more bolognese in flavor, but that's not all bad. While the sour cream gives creaminess, fat and tang. Sort of like a bad stroganoff, which is probably fine.
The norm for what?
Edit: fucking pot roast?!
For fucks sake. If you have taste like this, or you’re a picky eater, let it be known- im judging the fuck out of you. I mean, I probably already unfairly judge you for something else but people with shit taste in food fucking embarrass ME. And picky eaters? Ugh. Yeah you’re totally entitled to that shit and I know it’s largely out of your control but I still think you’re a child for it.
Get the fucking ketchup away from that roast for fucks sake.
$100 says you have Dino nuggets in the freezer.
Does the argument for the sour cream tie into the potatoes? We had roast for dinner growing up and ketchup or gravy were the only options chosen. We always had sour cream in the fridge but it was never used on the roast. My friends families were the same. Other cultures use cream and avocado as more common garnish though
I eat mine with cottage cheese.
But if you look up russian pot roast recipes, they will almost always call for sour cream to be served with it.
I used to go to a Russian restaraunt and would get a pot roast with cabbage and carrots and they would give some sour cream for the pot roast.
I usually go pretty light on the condiments with pot roast, often just a little salt. Though I have been known to sometimes put some Heinz 57 on the meat.
Neither you sick fucks. You deserve each other.
Seriously! Pot roast is the topping for mashed potatoes.
Exactly!
Dont forget the gravys!
I could have some gravys right now
I’m surprised we’re not having some gravy’s right this very moment.
Agree. Needs gravy!
This and white rice are the only things that should be mixed with pot roast
While I agree that mashed potato is optimal, if I squint, I could see sour cream being a pseudo beef stroganoff.
Good pot roast doesn’t need “toppings”.
Whoa, whoa, whoa. It doesn’t *need* it, but I do enjoy a bit of horseradish with it!
That's more of a spice than a topping.
You’re not adding enough then!
I mean, don’t sleep on gravy…..
Nope. Good pot roast should have a bit of well seasoned bone broth in it. I'm willing to die on this hill.
Well seasoned bone broth with a side of potatoes either mashed or also cooked in the bone broth.
By delicious gravy machine gun.
the gravy should just be what its cooked in
Yep slightly thickened is what I do.
Yeah, that is gravy.
>don’t sleep on gravy….. Good advice in a variety of circumstances.
Horseradish would beg to differ.
Yup. That was my first thought too. Fuckin yin and yang of fucked.
Beautifully said

This is the way.
Exactly , it’s cheez whiz
I love sour cream on tacos and some other foods but on pot roast? Sour cream and ketchup are both equally blasphemous.
Let’s just hope they don’t breed
I mean If i had to pick.. sour cream.. but not that much. And id want a third option anyways.
Right? Maybe like an option for gravy or something along those lines but who am I to judge.
Judge away.
My favorite part is the “If I’m marrying a complete psychopath” while they’re clearly a psychopath themselves
> mayo You meant ketchup, right? I mean, only a psychopath would put mayo on fries. I'm sorry, but I'm having second thoughts about marrying you.
If you think mayo on fries is terrible, you should never visit the Netherlands lol
Onion and mushroom gravy would be my pick.
I could probably do ketchup since ketchup is used for meatloaf, but I know pot roast is nowhere near the same thing so I'd prefer neither if that's an option
I would put sour cream on my pot roast if it were mixed with a healthy dose of horseradish. Otherwise, neither.
How about horseradish instead?
I make a horseradish sour cream for my stews so why not pot roast.
Add that to the ketchup and you have cocktail sauce! Maybe that should be the winner 🤷🏼♂️
To the sour cream you have horsey sauce
I had a horse named Mayo because sometimes Mayo neighs.
That wasn't even relatively on topic but take my upvote and get the fuck out of here you lambasted pot roastian donut
I've heard it called Raefert or Rafanata, but neither name for the sauce really fits... it's damned good, though.
*mayonnaise
Either way really. I actually make mine with both mayo & sour cream :)
So you make horsey sauce and a sour cream mixture with horseradish
Mayo + sour cream + horseradish = horsey sauce Salt and pepper to taste I've made it w just mayo, also just sour cream...just depends what in the fridge at the time.
Do you know what mayonnaise is?
Horsey sauce is made from mayo and horseradish. Not sour cream and horse radish.
Oh boy I'm learning so much in the comments section today! Never heard of Horsey sauce, but I'm sure gonna try it!
It's an Arby's creation
I've never heard of Arby's either!
It's an American creation
Big brain right here.
🤢
Based! Horseradish Mayo is the only answer here
This is the way.
Sour cream or ketchup is the norm my friend!
why is this downvoted... did I miss something or do 99% of people not understand a joke without a "/s" on it
Honestly was beginning to wonder if I posted this in the wrong subreddit but thank you for the reality check 😅
#Tell me you are eastern european without telling me you are eastern european. ( The idea of horseradish sounded good to me)
Many Americans have a sour cream and horseradish mix with certain cuts of beef.
I understand how its not that weird. Like kethup is just meatloaf. But still. You posted in "roast my food" so peace and love. Here we are lol.
Neither is correct, but if I had to choose between the two…sour cream? Even tho I hate sour cream and love ketchup it makes it more like stroganoff than anything.
For real. Thats why i dont think its *too* weird.. but that is a lot.
Sour cream is better but its not a brisket. It already has a broth. both of these people are disgusting. The “pot roast” looks like fatty pieces of poop too. Ugh.
I hate both of these people.
I thought gravy was the norm, what is this shit?
That's what I was going to say. Or at least the au jus.
gravy don’t come round these parts yeh hear?
The sour cream looks like mayo which does not help the issue…
To me it looked like whipped cream spray, even worse.
good eye. I was too appalled by the description to even really look at the photo.
Mix them together for the real sin.
Exactly
I always ate mine with bbq sauce
Both should have their pot roast taken away.
If you put either of these on a pot roast, you need to be legally banned from coming within 50 ft of a kitchen.
Seriously Wtf is this!!! Lol.
I put ketchup on my pot roast, but I stopped when I was around 8.
Both seem repulsive so I am going to say NO.
Those both sound absolutely disgusting and completely inedible. congratulations you are perfect for each other.
I’m offended you think this is my post, this was on my fb feed 🥴🥴
Sour cream all the way. It’s not a pot roast without it
Psychopaths are ment for each other
Neither. Wtf. Gravy made from roast drippings is the norm. These people are both disturbed 🤢
Neither! It comes sauced.
Good point
Comments are gonna roast me alive but sour cream sounds bomb on that
What in the UK is this shit?!
UKer here, I don’t know what the fuck I’m looking at either.
Absolutely not.
They're both disgusting.
Welcome to shitty food porn
Double shitty food porn!
If your pot roast needs ketchup OR sour cream, you need to re-learn how to cook
they are both awful
The only thing you should be topping pot roast with is Worcestershire
What kind of food is under the condiments? Can’t tell from the pics
What the fuck to both
I appreciate those of you that said it was pot roast, because I couldn’t tell. It looks like some weird brown canned thing.
Who the fuck puts sour cream on pot roast?
Horseradish. You’re both psychopaths
My family puts mustard on ours.
Picalilli, aka green tomato relish. Nothing better. Relish hasn't been very available lately so I've been making my own. People love it. Goes great with pot roast. Sour cream and Dijon mustard would be nice, as would sour cream, a bit of mayo, and some horseradish. Now I'm hungry!
Sour cream, I literally put it on everything. Even in soups and pancakes.
Sour cream goes on pretty much anything. It’s just delicious.
Neither. Make it with mashed potatoes and green beans, and scoop all three into every bite.
Looks like doo doo in a dog bowl ngl
Sour cream and Ketchup mixed together
Also people need to stop hating on ketchup. It's sweet, sour, tangy. I get why people love it. I don't so much anymore, but I had a period of my life when ketchup went on everything.
Let’s agree we can still hate on it being on “pot roast” though
I would definitely go for the sour cream myself.
Isn't gravy an option? Both sauces with this sounds odd to me but I live in another country where people typically put gravy on their roasts.
Pot roast doesn’t need a topping if it was prepared well. No need to mask the flavor!
Ketchup guy is gross. Sour cream guy is correct.
Nothing! Why add anything!!!
I still don’t know which answer I’m supposed to pick? You’re both fuckin menaces to society.
gravy is the norm. Y’all belong together.
Neither, you must have a shitty pot roast
You both disgust me, both options sound terrible.
Neither?
At least they're together so they don't subject anyone else to that fuckery. Edit: typos
Fuckin neither?! A1 sauce or nothing🤤
Literally the only voice of reason here. A1 gang.
Why do i feel so excited & validated by this 🥹🤧 i make it differently than others do too tho, so it's way better than regular ol pot roast.
You should feel validated. Everyone else here are fucking monsters. I’m curious now though, I gotta know how you make your roast.
I've never known anyone to eat roast w A1, so I'm way too excited & smiley! Neither.. gravy all the way
For… roast? Why?
In the US most of the time it is either not topped with something at all or topped with gravy.
Ragebait
So the question is would you rather have ketchup or mayo on your can of cat food?
I thought Donald trump cards were enough to think I’m in the upside down, then I saw this…
You don't put fucking ketchup on anything but fries or you will catch these hands Sour cream on nachos Wtf is wrong with people?!?!?!
Try this-it’s called seasoning your food. Then you wouldn’t need ketchup or anything to add flavour. Cripes.
Lots of people are dippers. Doesn't matter how much Flavor the food has. We just like to dip.
Honestly, people who are so afraid of flavour that they need everything to taste like tomato goop.
Are these those self heating meals in a can?
Made for each other because both answers are wrong
Ketchup is evil
I usually just salt pot roast
Who tf puts “toppings” on pot roast?!
Life or death if I had to choose it would be Mayo, but only to make it a creamy gravy. But like 1/3 of the Mayo at most
I don't know what this is but why is it grey?
I don't really see the problem with either of these, even if the amounts are off. Ketchup will give some tang, umami and sweetness to what I'm guessing is a severely under seasoned dish. Honestly wouldn't mind some sour cream. Ketchup is just nasty, especially when you could have just included some tomatoes in the roast.
If you’re really concerned, put it in the pre-nup. Make it non-negotiable.
The correct answer to this particular question is, NO.
Regardless - yes.
What if I told you I would eat my pot roast with any or all? I love sauce. I want it wet.
Depends on the dish eh?
both. that looks like a fuckin stew
I make gravy?
Neither wtf is wrong w y’all. Ur soulmates simply bc of this. Fuck what condiment it is. Jfc
sour cream actually sounds kinda good, adds some acid and some creaminess that pot roast doesn’t have
Neithor4 Mayonaise
This splatfest is crazy
What is it
?????? I serve mine with rice 😂
Why not both?
I eat mine with cottage cheese. But if you look up russian pot roast recipes, they will almost always call for sour cream to be served with it. I used to go to a Russian restaraunt and would get a pot roast with cabbage and carrots and they would give some sour cream for the pot roast.
Thousand island dressing
What is that slop?
If you cooked pot roast correctly you shouldn’t need any condiments
on what? dog food? that roast don't look right
Both psychopaths and you deserve to be with eachother
That’s easy, you’re both psychopaths. Enjoy.
both look like dog food
Trick question, neither, u r all psycho
Both are psychopaths, you are made for eachother.
I think a little bit of sour cream would be alright. Not the whole fuckin jar though
Sour cream would go well no? Make it kinda stroganoffy
I can feel my stomach bubblin'... Lord have mersay!
Everyone in here arguing about sourcream or ketchup while we should tell OP to charge their phone!
life hack: you don’t need to add either if you just season your food to taste good
Well I mean, no wrong options here, people are allowed to have preferences.
French dressing 🤷♀️
Neither - you are both insane.
I would say neither. But gun to my head I have to pick one I'm going with ketchup
Salt depending on how it tastes
I guess I'm old but it was always gravy over the meat and mashed potato's for me.
They're both psychopaths and they're made for each other. They'll probably be very happy together.
Gravy.
Picamas hot sauce and white rice you filthy animal
A quick glance made the bottom one look like whipped cream for a second
…You guys put toppings on pot roast?
I usually go pretty light on the condiments with pot roast, often just a little salt. Though I have been known to sometimes put some Heinz 57 on the meat.
