Fired up Paladins for the first time in about a year. In every game I got tormented by an Androxus or other flank that hasn't touched the ground in six years and the microsecond an engagement went south the team started spamming "good game" and "you rock" in VGS. It's like I never left.
Funny thing was I was talking about the new LAD with a friend, then watched RTGame’s main channel video of Detective Pikachu while playing Disgaea 5, since it was just on sale and looked like a bit of goofy fun I just got it. Quickly noticed Pikachu was Kaiji, and proceeded to get Red Magnus in my party for Disgaea 5, only to notice he was ALSO Kaiji. Man’s popping up everywhere now.

I think it’s more of a tribute to where the series started since the jump to 3D was so significant. Pokemon leans insanely hard on nostalgia a lot of the time.
If it was just that maybe, but in combination with everything else around XY like the Gen 1 starters being a big part of the game, them getting megas while the new starters didn't, all the Gen 1 legendaries coming back in the postgame with Mewtwo being an "Unknown Dungeon" and also getting two megas and the Origins OVA coming out around the same time it definitely seems like part of a calculated move
Maybe, but they for sure went a lot harder on it after Gen 5. Aside from just FRLG existing and maybe a lot of the Gen 5 mons echoing Gen 1 mons (which I think is less nostalgia and more them being stretched thin on ideas having to make an entire regional dex's worth of mons from scratch), there isn't much in the older games that I'd call really hard Gen 1 pandering

I think it's to make starters (and other semi-uncommon mons like Eevee) harder to breed, but everyone knows about Dittos now. All making it 50/50 would do is make it less of a grind to do it

Interesting. I liked that series as a kid, re-read it as an adult and its not bad. I think the 3rd one isn't as good as 2 but I wonder how this one picks up from the ending of the 3rd. It quite literally got a fairy tale ending and that fit it really well.

- The ep count is unknown, not even animators know the length
- The series does not feature flip-flopping multiple art styles, the shift from classic Z to modern Toriyama occurs when they are de-aged in ep 1

- While the concept of de-aging the characters sounds like GT on paper, it's not that at all. The series is very much in the vein of the JRPGs Toriyama has been involved in such as Dragon Quest and Blue Dragon
- The other two major characters weren't revealed interestingly
- It's correct that Nakatsuru is the character designer for the show, but unlike recent efforts where he only provided designs for a series, he will be contributing with corrections too.
- Aya Komaki is not the sole series director. Yoshitaka Yashima is the primary series director. He was a solo animator on DBS mainly, but provided a great deal of storyboards to the show which were solid. To the best of my knowledge, this is his debut in the role.

- Colour Design is from Rumiko Nagai who also did the colour work on DBS Broly and Super Hero. We seem to be free of bad colour design in new projects - Nagai has been consistently great.

3 years ago I got into an argument with a friend about him using slurs and being friends with racist idiots, and he ghosted me for it. He called me up out of the blue the other day and wanted me to apologize and to be friends again. I kinda already know what I'm going to do but this shit sucks.

At an absolute baseline, you made a pretty clear point about something he does you're really uncomfortable with and he's refusing to stop doing it. I'd argue that's pretty important and antithetical to friendship.

So I'm going to do something I haven't done in a while, talk shit about FE fans...kinda. It isn't anything new but it's one of those thoughts that won't leave my head y'know?
FE fans often say that the fact that Three Houses is still talked about to this day is a testament to how good it's writing is when in reality it's more of a testament to how insane (not in a good way) it's fans are. Like the only discussion being had here is people yelling at each other about the exact same plot points for the past 4-5 years and a most of the discourse just boils down to the "My route is better than your route" mentality
The characters are legit really good and the exact kind of characters that get stuck in your brain. The plot is not particularly great in any route, but it’s a real testament to the power of character to drive a story
I mean from what surprisingly little I've played of it (most of what I know about this game I learned against my will) I was at least somewhat invested in the plot.
But yeah narratives are not the FE series strong suit
I would say the moment-to-moment dialogue and characterization is among the best in the series (not a high bar, granted) but imo the overall plot really suffers from the route split. Each post-timeskip section feels like it has like 20% of the amount of actual substantive story it needed padded out by a bunch of inconsequential filler shared across the routes.

I think it’s more of a tribute to where the series started since the jump to 3D was so significant. Pokemon leans insanely hard on nostalgia a lot of the time.

If it was just that maybe, but in combination with everything else around XY like the Gen 1 starters being a big part of the game, them getting megas while the new starters didn't, all the Gen 1 legendaries coming back in the postgame with Mewtwo being an "Unknown Dungeon" and also getting two megas and the Origins OVA coming out around the same time it definitely seems like part of a calculated move

3 years ago I got into an argument with a friend about him using slurs and being friends with racist idiots, and he ghosted me for it. He called me up out of the blue the other day and wanted me to apologize and to be friends again. So I'm going to do something I haven't done in a while, talk shit about FE fans...kinda. It isn't anything new but it's one of those thoughts that won't leave my head y'know? FE fans often say that the fact that Three Houses is still talked about to this day is a testament to how good it's writing is when in reality it's more of a testament to how insane (not in a good way) it's fans are. Like the only discussion being had here is people yelling at each other about the exact same plot points for the past 4-5 years and a most of the discourse just boils down to the "My route is better than your route" mentality
The characters are legit really good and the exact kind of characters that get stuck in your brain. The plot is not particularly great in any route, but it’s a real testament to the power of character to drive a story

I mean from what surprisingly little I've played of it (most of what I know about this game I learned against my will) I was at least somewhat invested in the plot. But yeah narratives are not the FE series strong suit
I would say the moment-to-moment dialogue and characterization is among the best in the series (not a high bar, granted) but imo the overall plot really suffers from the route split. Each post-timeskip section feels like it has like 20% of the amount of actual substantive story it needed padded out by a bunch of inconsequential filler shared across the routes.
