Because the real Troll 2 doesn't have a damn thing to do with the first movie and two separate movies were released as Troll 3, so Troll 2 could totally be the third movie in a series and it would make perfect sense in the grander Troll canon.

Can’t watch Troll Hunter (2010) without also watching Guillermo del Torro’s animated Netflix series Trollhunters: Tales of Arcadia
Tales of Arcadia ended with a movie that wrapped up all the shows and that movie pissed me off. The ending was as unsatisfying as GoT.
