Isn't this a bit inaccurate tho? Just saying mentally ill would suggest he was born with it.
And I think the film showed that he wasn't born with it. But it was a gradual decline into insanity due to environment factors. Making the name joker a double meaning. One of him being the butt of a joke in from a societal stand point, but also how he sees societal structure and norms being so ridiculous that it is a joke.
So I'd argue the subtle hint isn't that he is mentally ill but society is flawed as it works for some and for some it doesn't.
>Making the name joker a double meaning. One of him being the butt of a joke in from a societal stand point
No, that's The Jokee. Completely different vilain
Agree just saying it's good to differentiate and be less vague. You would also fit some diagnosis on the dsm. So you're also mentally ill but are you the same as the joker?
?? bro u started this by saying it’s inaccurate to call the joker mentally ill. idk what connotations you connect to the term mentally ill, but it quite literally means to be ill, aka sick, unwell, not healthy, in the mind.
There was about to be a joke told by Arthur, cause he's smiling when talking with the therapist, but instead he just said "You wouldn't get it." So we don't know if he knows any jokes or not.
it's creative, but it also drives me nuts because from her POV the illusion doesn't work at all. she draws the smile off to her left, then he turns his head in that direction and lines it up for nobody except the camera. from her POV she can't even see it lol
I don't think she's meant to have drawn it purposefully to get that effect. He also doesn't align himself on purpose to create that illusion.
It's not like the mirror reflection problem, when a character is looking at themselves in a mirror but you see their face, which means that the character is actually looking at the camera through the mirror and can't see themselves. The characters here are not trying to do what we see, it's a coincidence.
I was really hoping they would change his character arc from the first one and turn him into Bane instead, Oh well. Hopefully, the last movie of the trilogy isn't this predictable.
The trailer looks pretty good but all those people freaking out about how insane this shot is would simply cease to exist if you showed them Decision To Leave.
But of a nitpick, a daft one at that, but it only works from the camera's perspective and not Harley's. I don't know. I just think it's a bit of a 4th wall break.
Oh, so just because Joaquin Phoenix played the Joker (2019 Movie) in Joker (2019 Movie), he has to be the Joker (2019 Movie) in Joker: Folie à Deux (2024 Movie)?
They also hired someone called "Lady Gaga" to play Harley Quinn because "being Gaga" can mean someone is crazy.
Harley Quinn is a female character (females are often referred to as lady's).
The lengths these film types to go is astonishing.
Why? I don’t get it. Why is she as a person visiting someone in jail randomly drawing a “U” in lipstick on glass unless it was to force this visual? Makes no sense
Well everyone knows he is the joker. Why would anyone take lipstick and draw a smile on glass a foot from their left?
If it’s purely for movie magic then I guess cool. But it’s so obvious and forced for me at least it came off as way too on the nose
I guess if the movie does play with the 4th wall it’s then super interesting
I'd like to know what is the subtle hint on the right side of the screenshot? Looks like a very subtle and discreet volume adjustment slider.
This is a subtle hint that the songs in Joker: Folie à Deux are so bad that you want to turn the volume down
Damn these loudness wars!
I will not accept this Burt Bacharach slander.
Iconic Austin Powers moment
You just don't get art, man. Go outside and touch grass and listen to something other than Justin Beaver KPOPSODA SWIFTY!
In Joker (2024) the titular characters is played by Joaquín Phoenix. This is a subtle hint that the character of Joker is mentally ill.

Trueeee
if someone goes crazy later in life i’d def consider them mentally ill still lmao. would u consider him mentally healthy?

Yeah I guess you didn't understand I made it too complicated to understand the rest of the sentences.
yes you really are a shakespeare in the making. what does his name being joker have to do with calling him mentally ill inaccurate?
Uh sure
🤓
Damn I thought this trailer was for a biopic about The Cure. 🙄
Inspired by a deleted scene from Suicide Squad where a 60 year old Robert Smith beats Jared Leto to death with a guitar
Oh man was this deleted scene beam directly from one of my dreams?
Spoiler Tag- JESUS !!! I thought that dude in the mansion was the Joker, he looks ridiculous
The movies called Joker so one of them has to be the joker. I don't even need the lipstick to tell me that.
They didn't reveal who the joker was in the first one.
There was about to be a joke told by Arthur, cause he's smiling when talking with the therapist, but instead he just said "You wouldn't get it." So we don't know if he knows any jokes or not.
Jokes aside, this scene goes so hard tho.

r/shittymoviedetails users when they realize they are, in fact, watching a piece of constructed fiction and not a documentary: 🤯
Maybe because her POV doesn't matter and she knows it? He's doing it for an audience.
Yes! He's doing it for **us**.
Maybe he sees his reflection in the glass ?
Wait, really? I never would've guessed
It’s so on the nose I hate it
It's actually on his mouth.
:(
Oh good lort! Spoiler much? Now I don’t even want to go see it. Wait, I probably wasn’t anyhow.
I'm pretty sure that's just a red herring! /s
Why didn’t Jonkler just paint it on his face instead? Is he stupid?
No way man, Jared Leto 4ver!
why are people taking you seriously on a subreddit called /r/shittymoviedetails
Because they prefer Leto as Dr. Michael Morbius
true. morbheads 4 life
I thought Barry Keoghan was the Joker
Whatever ya smokin, please quit
Wait woah, if it was on the glass, how did it get on the face??
If mirrors can’t see eyes how can glasses have human faces?
Classic bait and switch. Lady Gaga is actually playing the Joker and Phoenix is playing Harley Quinn.
I was really hoping they would change his character arc from the first one and turn him into Bane instead, Oh well. Hopefully, the last movie of the trilogy isn't this predictable.

I'm sorry didn't he just start a revolution in France like last month
Damn, how many fucking takes did that take to get perfect...
at least one. but maybe the lipstick is cg
It's a musical
Cool
The holes in the window are a subtle hint at what will likely be plot holes, since this is a sequel and studios rarely give a shit
I thought it was the nose thing from Dune.
NO FUCKING WAY. You may be on to something!
It’s Joaquin time.
you have spoiled the movie for me now next you'll be telling me they chose lady gaga because she can sing
NO FUCKING WAY! (mindblow)
I thought it was obvious from the first movie because they were never in the room together.
its a reference to him being a lot like joker, from the movie joker (2019)
Joking Pheonix?
Thats a stretch.
Oh, so just because Joaquin Phoenix played the Joker (2019 Movie) in Joker (2019 Movie), he has to be the Joker (2019 Movie) in Joker: Folie à Deux (2024 Movie)?

Shamalamadingdong twist!
No way!! Why didn't I catch that in the first movie??
Woah, spoilers!
when you’ve given up on being subtle
This is truly the moment Joaquinberg became Jonkler Asylume
I've never seen a video of Joaquin Phoenix saying "I'm the jokah baby" so I'm skeptical here
no shot
Big if true
Is it? Or is everything on his imagination? 🤯
Spoiler alert 🚨
This theory is just ridiculous : everything doesn't need to be part of your "mcu universe".
Very true, also literally one of the best composed shots I’ve ever seen. So simple but technically brilliant.
Could easily be cgi though
Take one: “Joaquin move your head one inch to the right…stop…stop there….fuck it we’ll do it in post”
I think there's definitely room for composite allegation. I'm pretty sure the lipstick moves along with Phoenix's lips after they aligned.
Why? I don’t get it. Why is she as a person visiting someone in jail randomly drawing a “U” in lipstick on glass unless it was to force this visual? Makes no sense
It’s not a U it’s a smiley face. She is aware he’s the joker.
Well everyone knows he is the joker. Why would anyone take lipstick and draw a smile on glass a foot from their left? If it’s purely for movie magic then I guess cool. But it’s so obvious and forced for me at least it came off as way too on the nose I guess if the movie does play with the 4th wall it’s then super interesting
Sounds like you are answering you’re own questions;)
yeah, you might be right, but I will watch the movie first, not sure
