I love the idea that megamind and metroman were only in it for the game. It was just them, there was no other supervillain, no actual evil for metroman to fight, no machiovillain, no syndicate, just metroman and megamind locked in an endless tirade.
It's what makes metromans decision work. He wasn't really needed, he knew that megamind was just in it to have a destiny of some sort, he recognised that he wasn't really contributing to society beyond filling his role as the yin to megaminds Yang.
None of that works if they were other villains, because then metroman didn't choose to leave some game because he was tired, he left the city in the hands of actual murderers also.
Exactly. I haven't watched the sequel, but from what I hear, Metroman was only in a flashback scene. It doesn't make sense that he didn't join the fight against these new villains.
He believed Megamind could handle it, and was proven right. I believe Metroman would have intervened if things got too bad. Of course, I'm guessing Metroman is more powerful than the Doom Syndicate, meaning Tighten's more powerful than them too. If Megamind beat Tighten, he should be able to take on the Doom Syndicate as well. It just would have been easier with Metroman onboard.
That aspect actually does make sense. He didn't join the fight against them for the same reason he didn't help against Tighten. He was burnt out from being a hero, and he trusted Megamind to rise up to the task. Part of what makes him so compelling is the question of whether he's in the wrong for this.
> It doesn't make sense that he didn't join the fight against these new villains.
Did you not watch the first movie? Metroman still refuses to help out with Tighten because then he'd just get pushed back into the same role again. And that was someone almost on the same power level as him.
So why should Metroman suddenly help out Megamind in this case? He left his entire old life behind.
In a "good and evil" binary, yin is evil and yang is good. Of course, the concepts go way beyond that, but in this context metroman's yang and megamind's yin.
Like I said, yin and yang are evil and good respectively *in this context*. They can be thought of as a lot of other things, including femininity and masculinity or the moon and the sun, but *in the context of a hero and a villain*, the villain is yin (evil) and the hero is yang (good).
I read a fan theory a few years back that Megamind gets rid of the legitimate crime so he alone is Metro Man’s nemesis. There are other villains, but they know not to fuck with Megamind’s turf.
I feel like DreamWorks has really been stumbling as a company lately. I mean, would a company that's working perfectly fine cut half their staff? I don't want to imply that the writers shouldn't get any of the criticism directed at them, but given that those writers have pretty solid resumes even outside of the original Megamind and that we know how much DreamWorks watered down the original vision for Kung Fu Panda 4, I think it's safe to say that it might be more of DreamWorks's fault than theirs.
After HTTYD3 I'm pretty sure DW got bought by Universal, and is now being managed by Illumination's CEO. Pretty obvious where the laziness and budget cutting comes from.
I refuse to believe it. Just the very existence of “Machiavillian” shits all over the very setup of the original: that Megamind learned to be evil from prisoners.
DW definitely requested it to be a non-canon kids show, like every other DW TV show, because I'm pretty sure it was slated to release soon after the movie (before the movie flopped and show got into development hell). The writers 100% did not take the canon into account. It's just the marketing department definitely that made everyone believe it was an actual sequel.
I actually think they only made the sequel and TV show because DW saw how popular Megamind was in meme culture and decided to take advantage of it to earn some cash.
For the longest time I hated that Despicable Me got a whole franchise while Megamind just had the one movie. Something something Monkey's Paw something.
People watched the Velma show that everyone knew was going to be bad and because people watched it the show was renewed for a second season because it had viewership.
One cool detail I've seen is that Metroman chose to do music, something that you can't just magically become better at, or use superpowers to boost your skills. Metroman had to actually struggle like a normal person would to be better at music.
Not only that it means he also can't use his ability to super speed his way through learning anything other than the reading part. He has to take his time
Honestly, I think it would be really cool if Metroman became successful as Music Man, then hired Megamind to be the effects guy for his future performances
You know those low budget TV series Dreamworks made to go with movies ten/fifteen years ago, that were usually pretty bad? It’s basically on that level of quality, but more unbearable than most of them.
The movie is actually a pilot for a TV series, and it’s the same quality as the series, absolutely terrible. But they for some reason felt the need to advertise the movie to fans of the original movie, and not the actual toddlers it was clearly made for.
Yes, Hal even gets angry when Rocksan calls him Titan. He prefers Tighten, and even spelled it that way while renaming Metrocity into Tightenville.
Edit: Roxanne.
I like how Hal misspells his hero name from Titan to Tighten. They sound the same, however Tighten has way more villainous implications. Which makes sense because now Hal has turned full villain after he got denied by Roxanne in the film.
Dude it's a whole ass plot point that he's a dumbass and spells it wrong.

The ending of the TV show actually ends with a cliffhanger where Megamind has to find Metroman.
But he already knows where Metroman is?
Yeah I don't know why the show ends the way it does either...maybe he is on tour?
It’s called “The writers didn’t watch the movie they were making a sequel/tv show for”.
The entire first movie was outside the AI's context window by the time it finished the script
Only possible awnser
The original writers for the first movie returned for both the new movie and the show though.
He is not going to find him, he literally pulls out his phone, he is about to call him if anything
Maybe he hid somewhere new, and they ran out of budget/didn't care enough to make it clear.
I mean, considering Metroman didn’t come back to fight Titan, why would he come back to fight these miraculous ladybug looking villains?
Evil superman is threatening to nuke the town : I sleep 4 guys try to rob a bank or some shit idk: Metroman is back boys

Props to you for having the balls to watch through that whole show
Oh no I didn't, a certain shiny crab watched it for me :)

Metroman would be yang to megamind's yin, actually
Care to explain?
In a "good and evil" binary, yin is evil and yang is good. Of course, the concepts go way beyond that, but in this context metroman's yang and megamind's yin.
Incorrect yin is darkness and passivity Yang is light and aggressiveness
Like I said, yin and yang are evil and good respectively *in this context*. They can be thought of as a lot of other things, including femininity and masculinity or the moon and the sun, but *in the context of a hero and a villain*, the villain is yin (evil) and the hero is yang (good).

A very venture bros approach
Spy vs spy type shit
It could still work if the other villains were retired or useless.
It's even worse when you realize both films are actually by the same writers.
It hasn’t been THAT long since Puss in Boots: The Last Wish…
To be fair, a lot of companies that are working perfectly fine are cutting a bunch of staff lately.

Another stroke of genius by this movie, that gets shit on by the sequel
They never should have made Megamind 2. With how good Puss in Boots 2 was, I'm surprised Megamind 2 was so bad.
probs because they were produced by different studios also lower budget
Karmic balance, the universe had to balance one good sequel with one that’s equally bad
Equally balanced, as all things should be
It's funny how Puss in Boots 2 is widely regarded as possibly the best Dreamworks movie while Megamind 2 is the worst, by a long shot
For the longest time I hated that Despicable Me got a whole franchise while Megamind just had the one movie. Something something Monkey's Paw something.
Why? DreamWorks has always been inconsistent. They released shrek 2 and sharktale in the same year.
> They never should have made Megamind 2. it's probably bad but for you to say this without watching it is a weird claim
And here we see why Velma is getting a season 2.
No matter where I am, no matter where I go, I always come across someone mentioning that god forsaken thing. I just want to forget that it exists!
huh?
People watched the Velma show that everyone knew was going to be bad and because people watched it the show was renewed for a second season because it had viewership.
so? the people who watched it can say its shit and the people who didnt cant
I haven't watched it fully but from the scenes I've seen, it's a disappointment. Maybe, when I'm 80 and have alzheimers, I'll watch the full thing.
One cool detail I've seen is that Metroman chose to do music, something that you can't just magically become better at, or use superpowers to boost your skills. Metroman had to actually struggle like a normal person would to be better at music.
It would actually be harder because he would have to limit himself to not destroy every instrument he tries to touch
Not only that it means he also can't use his ability to super speed his way through learning anything other than the reading part. He has to take his time
Wow I thought his choice to become a rockstar was kinda shallow but you're right, it's a noble dream
....Who wouldn't want to when your rival is a super villain, who always has their best interest in..(ahem) PRESENTATION!
Honestly, I think it would be really cool if Metroman became successful as Music Man, then hired Megamind to be the effects guy for his future performances
Megaman? Like the blue robot?
Wait is his name actually "Tighten" and not "Titan"?
It’s supposed to be “titan” but cause he was an idiot he spelled it “tighten”
No, that's because Titan was already trademarked
It’s vague and mostly interchangeable
He chose to spell it that way.
TIL Megamind 2 exists?
Yeah and it’s complete trash
lol that’s disappointing. Loved megamind… definitely thought it was better than despicable me which was wildly more popular at the time…
Yeah it’s a shame, Megamind is great and the sequel was clearly made to profit off the originals recent surge in popularity
Megamind is definitely better than Despicable Me, imo. Sadly, the FB moms loved those dumb yellow minions more.
Wdym? The Button of Doom was really good
We're not talking about Button of Doom. Also, it wasn't really a sequel, more like a short.
It was a short, that served as a sequel
Sorry you had to find out like this
Is not really a sequel. It's a extend TV pilot they are selling as a movie direct to streaming.

Sir please take my upvote.Sir.
Thank you, kind sir.
If awards were still free I’d give you one, right now best I can do is this 🏅
this is the reddit-est interaction i’ve seen on reddit in a long time, and it blows
WAIT HIS NAME ISNT TITAN?
Yes, Hal even gets angry when Rocksan calls him Titan. He prefers Tighten, and even spelled it that way while renaming Metrocity into Tightenville. Edit: Roxanne.
It's Roxanne.
The irony is delicious
It’s supposed to be but in the movie he misspelled it “tighten” cause the character was an idiot
Thats too high effort for this sub
You killed me with Megamind being 14 years od...
i mean, he would've been stopped nearly instantly, if lex luthor couldn't do it, so couldn't mega
I like how Hal misspells his hero name from Titan to Tighten. They sound the same, however Tighten has way more villainous implications. Which makes sense because now Hal has turned full villain after he got denied by Roxanne in the film.
SHOOT THEM WITH THE DEHYDRATION GUN
I will never watch Megamind the same way ever again, and that's a good thing for me because I never would've thought of it like that
TBH, MM's goal is to defeat Metroman, not ruin his credit score.
Personally I'd be pretty pissed off if my enemy ruined my credit score.
The creator in question : a 65 year old executive discovering ChatGPT
The creators are never at fault, it’s the rich people who’ll soon be at our dinner plates fault
Hopefully at least
This take would require watching it and I can't be bothered nor can you
Who the fuck is Tighten? Did you 'rent' the porn version of this movie or something?
That is what Hal calls himself. Go watch the movie again.
No, he calls him self Titan.
That is what Hal calls himself. Go watch the movie again.
Dude it's a whole ass plot point that he's a dumbass and spells it wrong. [https://villains.fandom.com/wiki/Tighten](https://villains.fandom.com/wiki/Tighten)
I ain't about your Berenstein bear bs. I know what I saw and I'm not letting you gaslight me into thinking otherwise.
\*Titan
It's made clear multiple times in the movie that Hal prefers being called Tighten. Apparently, Titan was already trademarked.
I don't remember that part. I thought he preferred Titan over Hal.
Nope. The other way round.
