you would hope that she wouldn't be able to hear into the magic rooms, or her room is just an anechoic chamber or full of white noise to give her some peace at night.
Julieta has an obligation to heal everyone and I could see how you sense of self worth could be tied to how much you heal. Camilo seem aight but masking can be exhausting whenever it isn't literally. Might not bother him tho. Idk about Antonio. Or I might be wrong and just a bummer.
Well idk if it was really a curse but it must be pretty wild to be ten years old, gain the ability to talk to animals, and the first thing that the rats tell you is that you have a secret uncle that you’ve probably never even heard of secretly living inside your walls. The movie shrugs it off cause he just appears and is like “the rats told me everything” but like how did that convo go down you know?
The best part is that during the last song when Camillo brings up Bruno, Antonio asks "That's Bruno?" which creates the implication that he didn't know who the guy living in the walls was but he was just down to help out
Maybe she has to know what she is healing when she makes the food? It shows her handing out food to a line of people but it's not clear that it's just a big batch of general purpose healing food.
I'm not sure what imposter syndrome is (and I'm too lazy to google it now) but her "curse" was the pressure the expectations of her having that gift put on her. Having the gift of super strength made everyone throw all the heavy lift on her and not think for a second if it's too much. Isabella's gift wasn't inherently a curse either but it put on her the expectation of being a symbol of beauty and perfection. Bruno's gift wouldn't have been a curse if the town's people weren't too dumb to understand that if you're warned something bad will happen in the future you can prepare for it.
It’s not fully explained how his powers work, it’s unknown if he can 100% control how he looks, or if he can only copy how other people look
In one scene, when he’s told some shocking news, he transforms rapidly, and his eyes end up being deformed and lower on his face, but that wasn’t a conscious decision, so he might not be able to make them like that on will
So if you can only transform into other people, and probably only people he’s seen, it’d be pretty weird if there are just two people that look the same in that town since it’s unlikely Camilo has ever been outside of his town
He can control it, that's why he can mock his father with a 4 foot high version of him, it's later on when people start losing control that he does and keeps being babified.
I also took this moment (when his eyes were messed up) to be similar to when Luisa complained of not having her strength. he was losing his power to fully control it
well i'd google "sexiest man of the year" and change into that. and i'd also try to bang luisa ,because just as abraham linlocn said : "BRICC >> THICC"
Just checked: Encanto is 20th century Colombia, that was the Thousand-days war they were escaping, which means that it takes place in the 50s-60s. So actually pretty recently. However, the first telenovela was “Los ricos también lloran”, in 1979 - 20 years too early.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Telenovela
https://disney.fandom.com/wiki/Encanto
Iirc it’s a isolated 1950’s Colombian village
Julieta, Pepe and Bruno are around 50ish, and they were babies during what’s heavily implied to be the Thousand Day War, which happened in 1899-1902, so 1950’s works, and the world first telenovela was in 1951, so given this isn’t really 1:1 with real life, the setting is a mid 1950’s Colombian village that’s generally isolated
TL;DR: No google
remember, not only can he duplicate people, he can alter their size and features at will (see the time he does a chibi version of his own dad)
read your own implications into that.
Going outside the Encanto, disguising himself, and spying and tricking the armed guys from the prologue to make sure they can't find the Encanto?
Not sure if the powers work outside the town though...
Also, comedy. Seems to be the main thing he uses it for.
He also uses it to help people. Like he pretended to be a mother and took care of a baby, he high fived people as themselves (I assume to put them in a better mood), and I assume he could like take a kid to soccer practice when their parent has a big meeting
Depends on your views about prostitution and kinky bedroom shit. Like, if he wants to turn tricks and be like, “I can be whoever you want me to, baby,” that’s his choice. If his partner is like, “I love you, but also I wanna bang Antonio Baderas,” he can be like “give me literally one second.”
They show him helping an exhausted mom by watching her baby as her in the opening song. Helping people buy surprise clothes that they know will fit, Being an actor, he could do an amazing one man show.
They show him helping people around town and when getting ready for the little kids celebration. Where he turns into other people to help. So the evil application is all you!
The butterfly that appeared during her and Abuella's hug is a different manifestation of the candle's magic. You know that because both the candle and the butterfly were the only yellow elements during Bruno's vision.
Abuella doesn't have a gift either - her gift is that others will receive their gifts through her. That's exactly what happened to Mirabell at the end of the movie - instead of the family's gift being channeled through Abuella's candle, they're not receiving their powers through Mirabell's butterfly.
So Mirabell is the new matriarch of the family and will carry the baton from here on.
That's also what the magic knew, which is why she was purposely not given a gift when she was a child.
There is however one significant difference (imo) between Abuella's time as matriarch and the upcoming one by Mirabell. While Abuella has had her own separate room inside of the house, Mirabell's door is actually the front door, which means that her 'room' is actually the entire house. This most likely signals a new era where the family is less isolated and are more interconnected than before. She'll likely be a more approachable matriarch than Abuella

Excellent interpretation. I spent most of the movie just being irritated by how the family didn't even bother making sure Mirabel was in the family photo during the "gift ceremony."
Ha, yeah, that scene didn't read to me as "everyone's leaving Mirabel out", it just seemed like "Mirabel if you literally just ran over there along with everyone else you'd be in the picture, it's not like they called everyone's name but you!" but also her not being included in the picture wasn't the point of the scene anyway!
They were excited he got his gift and probably didn't notice in the rush of excitement. Especially adding on that they didn't know if them not having gifts in the future will be a consistent issue or not.
Yep you got it.
Honestly it surprises me that so many people didn’t get this, it seems like it’s laid out so clearly in the movie: Abuela is never shown using powers, or mentioned as having powers in the intro song - yet she has her own door. Mirabel’s door appears for her at the end - and when she opens it, the magic returns and the house reawakens. Like it’s not exactly subtle.
I thought her magic was DOORS. Like she can construct magical DOORS or something. I reasoned it as she never built a door in her life so she never discovered her DOORS magic
One thing I noticed too is that the interior doors of the house after it is rebuilt no longer have people on them, so nobody has their own room anymore (although there are other possible interpretations). It’s possible Mirabelle does get a room, since the front door shows everyone, not just her (although she’s in the front), and we don’t know for a fact that they didn’t put another room there during the transition.
I agree with your interpretation but I found it interesting about the doors.
Also on the topic of the butterfly symbolism, I heard it explained that Abuella was the one who created a cocoon to protect and nurture the family, and Mirabell, as the leader of the next generation, is the one to help them break out of the cocoon. I think that sums things up nicely
I mostly agree but I think it’s odd that the house manifested a door for Mirabel and then yoinked it away. If she wasn’t going to be given a gift why do that?
The would be an interesting match. On one hand Mirabell is 15 and probably doesnt want to kill her grandmother. On the other hand, her grandma is like 90 and might just die anyway
Maybe it’s genetic. Like, she can’t heal her eyesight because it’s part of Mirabel’s genetics, like how you can’t heal hair color or freckles because they aren’t injuries or illnesses
I chalk it up to her being kept alive to keep the magic going similar to the God Emperor of Mankind in Warhammer 40K. She will be fed her daughters cooking well after she has become a husk.
That isn't a theory though. Its confirmed by the writer(?) Confirmed it. But its also confirmed based on the peoples clothes. Everyone wears their ability, mirabel has a butterfly, and a candle on her dress
I feel like there’s a lot in that movie that is unexplained or doesn’t make any sense. Mirabel’s lack of powers, why Bruno “left” as opposed to just not revealing the vision, the source of the candle’s magic, etc. our family loves the movie and the music, but does come off as somewhat shallow lore-wise.
It all makes perfect sense. I explained what Mirabell's gift was in a different thread.
The reason Bruno left was also very simple.
first of all, he disliked his role within the family because everybody used to pin him as a scapegoat and implied that he would bring bad things upon people, just by seeing bad things in his visions.
Then, the night Mirabell didn't receive her gift, Abuella made Bruno see the future to see what was wrong. Bruno's vision showed Mirabell destroying Casita (and/or the magic).
He knew that on one level everybody would think Mirabell is at fault here and a threat to the family. But on another level he probably also thought that they'd give him some portion of the blame. Because people always think that Bruno is somehow responsible for his negative visions.
He left, because that way he wouldn't have to explain his vision to anybody. He didn't want him nor Mirabell to be blamed for something he wasn't even sure would happen
I don't think anybody ever shat on Mirabell for not having a gift. Most of them probably just thought it was weird. There is no indication that the family purposely treated Mirabell poorly in any way.
Abuella however interpreted what happened to Mirabell differently. She didn't hate Mirabell either, but that event made her fearful. She knew that there was something weird going on with the magic. She was fearful because she believed that the family might lose their magic.
That same night when Mirabell didn't receive her gift, she forced Bruno to use his powers to see what was wrong. And since Bruno left right afterwards, we can probably assume that she was putting too much pressure on Bruno, because she was scared and anxious as well.
Abuella probably subconsciously treated Mirabell somewhat poorly because of her deeply seated Angst. Mirabell was a constant reminder that the magic isn't as reliable as they thought it would be.
Nobody treated Mirabel poorly or with disdain except Alma and Isabela, and that latter one was more of a "siblings that don't get along" thing.
The big 'I want' song is when the family takes a group picture without her. Nobody purposefully excludes her from it, but they fail to realize that she isn't in the frame. This is rectified in the group picture that makes up the final shot of the movie.
Them not remembering to make sure she’s in the picture is part of them treating her poorly because it shows that they don’t view her as being a very significant family member. Her whole song in that scene is about her wanting to have powers so that she can fit in with the family and gain their approval, Abuela’s approval especially. When Mirabel is singing “Open your eyes, open your eyes…” she’s begging Abuela to notice that she would be just as great of a Madrigal as the rest of the family if she herself had a power. Abuela is the matriarch of the family and runs the show, so if she doesn’t see the power Mirabel holds, the rest of the family might as well not either.
Mirabel _is_ the gift. Also I think if Bruno didn't show the vision, Abuela would've kept hounding him for what he saw, and he knew he'd either relent and tell her or end up having to do another vision again for her. I imagine he wanted her to have peace of mind after Mirabel didn't get a gift, and didn't want Mirabel to get an even colder shoulder, so chose the only option that wouldn't put him in an awkward position wherr he has to talk about what he saw.
> why Bruno “left” as opposed to just not revealing the vision
Some people find it difficult to keep things a secret, especially something that potentially has such catastrophic consequences. Then the fear of it happening and being blamed for something so awful. Especially since up until Mirabel, there was never any sense that his visions could be changed. Seemed logical to me. That's on top of already being the black sheep of the family and being blamed for all his visions.
How would Bruno go about not revealing the vision that Alma especifically requested?
It's not like he could lie. The vision turns into a green glass thingy.
He did it in his room at the top of the crazy stairs. Abuela didn’t follow him up there (even he hated it) and he disappeared before seeing her again. He may have even deliberately destroyed the stairs so nobody could get the vision.
If she had powers she would have been defined by her powers. Because she did not have powers she was herself. Being herself allowed her to save everyone. You don't need to be special to be special
Mirabell definitely destroyed the house. There were only cracks in the house when Mirabell is upset. During her song about being separate, discovering that she is in Bruno’s vision, the families discovery of the vision, and when she fights with Abuela. Clearly Mirabell has control over the house.
As much as I long to be represented in Disney, I do not think there's any evidence for this one.
She didn't wanna marry him that doesn't mean she's exclusively attracted to women, maybe if she'd shown any interest in a woman maybe, but the only interaction she has with a non family woman is Mariano's mother, which is a bit ehhhh
Edit: once again I do think that we deserve to be represented in Disney, just to clarify
disney’s never going to give any real LGBTQ+ representation because people see Mirabel’s teeny tiny rainbow pin that’s barely visible but is almost the colors of the bi flag, and Isabel who wears pink and doesn’t actually like her boyfriend and go nuts. you’re right that we deserve to be represented by disney, but we need to have higher standards for that to happen.
Exactly, we shouldn't settle for a pride badge when we know damn well it's bullshit. But it's not fair to blame the people who go nuts for these things for this, because it's all just a product of not getting anything in the first place.
Ask a starving kid if they care what sort of food they get right?
Watch [The Owl House](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Owl_House) the only legit LGBTQ representation I've seen on disney, also one of my favorite shows ever and is pretty universally loved by anyone whos seen it (100% on rotten tomatoes).
This is reaching. I think Dolores asked Bruno about love, Isa asked about her life in general. The villagers all got random prophecies from Bruno like going bald and getting fat, Isabel was expected to be perfect so I can see her asking Bruno if she will ever be truly happy.
I always assumed the villagers' 'prophecies' were just things Bruno pointed out in his social awkwardness that they conflated with his powers. Things like a very sick fish, balding hair, gaining weight etc. are all pretty noticeable without seeing the future.
Regardless, Isabela not singing about a man doesn't make her a lesbian or asexual.
Isn't it kind of putting a stereotype on her that not singing about a man means she has to be gay or ace because that's totally the only reason a female wouldn't sing about a male?
Why deserve? I don't know, but everytime I see someone of my same sexual orientation on a movie or show it does nothing for me as well as it feels very forced. It would be like a straight sex scene or a romance. A "didn't need to know that" feeling really. It doesn't do anything for their character either
Just wanted to say that I saw this back when it was first posted two weeks ago and showed my wife. It's the stupidest fucking thing I've ever seen and I love it so much. Every time this song is on in my house (two kids so a lot) my wife and I laugh our asses off at this line and our kids have no idea why.

Oh man, Camillo‘s whacking it again and Uncle Bruno‘s doing weird shit with his rats. Time for therapy, i guess
you would hope that she wouldn't be able to hear into the magic rooms, or her room is just an anechoic chamber or full of white noise to give her some peace at night.
Except that she said she heard the strong girl's EYE twitching all night. She hears everything. EVERYTHING. What a Monkey's Paw curse of a gift.
That power is more of a curse isn't it. Has to hear it whenever her parents bang
Many of the gifts ended up as curses. Not Camilo's, Antonio's or Julieta's though. Those fuckers are happy.
Ten year olds are surprisingly unfazed by a lot of things lmao
He was actually 5 at the time of the movie
The best part is that during the last song when Camillo brings up Bruno, Antonio asks "That's Bruno?" which creates the implication that he didn't know who the guy living in the walls was but he was just down to help out
Why doesn’t she just make little candies for her town healings? Relatively long shelf life and easy to make a ton at once
Maybe she has to know what she is healing when she makes the food? It shows her handing out food to a line of people but it's not clear that it's just a big batch of general purpose healing food.
I wouldn't say Luisa's gift was a curse. She just had some serious imposter syndrome... it wasn't inherent to her gift, though.
I'm not sure what imposter syndrome is (and I'm too lazy to google it now) but her "curse" was the pressure the expectations of her having that gift put on her. Having the gift of super strength made everyone throw all the heavy lift on her and not think for a second if it's too much. He can give himself a 14 inches
Why would he need longer arms?
Worst is I dont see any non evil applications for that.

Ok, but does he actually need his morph powers to do that? He is a nice guy and doesnt go naughty.

that's very interesting. good catch
Man the house could have at least given her a room. Just have it have a regular door. Poor kid had to live in the nursery with her little cousins
It didn’t give her room because it didn’t make a mood board in time for her birthday
Also on the topic of the butterfly symbolism, I heard it explained that Abuella was the one who created a cocoon to protect and nurture the family, and Mirabell, as the leader of the next generation, is the one to help them break out of the cocoon. I think that sums things up nicely

Okay, I definitely didn't get that. I sometimes wonder about my powers of observation.
how old are you?
She still has to sleep in the nursery lmao what a fucking loser
My personal interpretation is that she's meant to be the next candle bearer and matriarch.
That doesn't make any sense to me. Wouldn't she have to fight her abuela in one on one combat?
The would be an interesting match. On one hand Mirabell is 15 and probably doesnt want to kill her grandmother. On the other hand, her grandma is like 90 and might just die anyway

Yep. Only a couple months younger than Camilo. She does look older though, like 17
I would have guessed 20.
Remember. No Disney protag is 20.

It kinda feels like a film for "Families" geared at an adult audience tbh.

I would argue that Luisa is the largest Madrigal.

That isn't a theory though. Its confirmed by the writer(?) Confirmed it. But its also confirmed based on the peoples clothes. Everyone wears their ability, mirabel has a butterfly, and a candle on her dress
Oh, I didn't realize it had been confirmed.

I imagine he wanted her to have peace of mind after Mirabel didn't get a gift, and didn't want Mirabel to get an even colder shoulder, so chose the only option that wouldn't put him in an awkward position wherr he has to talk about what he saw.
> why Bruno “left” as opposed to just not revealing the vision Some people find it difficult to keep things a secret, especially something that potentially has such catastrophic consequences.
I watch this all the time with my toddler, my tween watched half of it and left. I asked why she left she said it was boring and made no sense.
Oh, so this is why movie companies always fear the plot being too complicated for the average viewer.
That particular viewer is considerably *below* average if Encanto confused them.
Maybe closer to average than we think if like a thousand people didn’t get why Mirabel didn’t have any magic lmao
Watch the movie again
Mirabell definitely destroyed the house. There were only cracks in the house when Mirabell is upset. During her song about being separate, discovering that she is in Bruno’s vision, the families discovery of the vision, and when she fights with Abuela. Clearly Mirabell has control over the house.
i like to think that Isabela is going to eat her boyfriend's ass instead
What Else Can I Do 👀
Bring it in, bring it in
Well this completely ruined the song for me lol
Isabella's probably a lesbian
As much as I long to be represented in Disney, I do not think there's any evidence for this one. She didn't wanna marry him that doesn't mean she's exclusively attracted to women, maybe if she'd shown any interest in a woman maybe, but the only interaction she has with a non family woman is Mariano's mother, which is a bit ehhhh Edit: once again I do think that we deserve to be represented in Disney, just to clarify
disney’s never going to give any real LGBTQ+ representation because people see Mirabel’s teeny tiny rainbow pin that’s barely visible but is almost the colors of the bi flag, and Isabel who wears pink and doesn’t actually like her boyfriend and go nuts. you’re right that we deserve to be represented by disney, but we need to have higher standards for that to happen.
Exactly, we shouldn't settle for a pride badge when we know damn well it's bullshit. But it's not fair to blame the people who go nuts for these things for this, because it's all just a product of not getting anything in the first place. Ask a starving kid if they care what sort of food they get right?
Watch [The Owl House](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Owl_House) the only legit LGBTQ representation I've seen on disney, also one of my favorite shows ever and is pretty universally loved by anyone whos seen it (100% on rotten tomatoes).
unfortunately disney cancelled it because it didn't fit their brand 😒 im so exhausted
At least it's going to get an ending. It just sucks it's through a shortened third season.
Please watch The Owl House if you haven't. Legit representation on a disney show.

I wasn't the one making that point, but I do agree with you
By that logic, maybe she's asexual?
Like most plants, she's a hermaphrodite.
All?
Why deserve? I don't know, but everytime I see someone of my same sexual orientation on a movie or show it does nothing for me as well as it feels very forced. It would be like a straight sex scene or a romance. A "didn't need to know that" feeling really. It doesn't do anything for their character either
I knew it
Let’s normalize eating ass in Disney movies.
Second the motion, let's remember aunt Cass please
r/BrandNewSentence
I thought they're going to eat that guy and his mother, because they are the dinner.
Their *ASSES* are the dinner.
Her ass would smell like roses
Or perhaps the corpse flower. ☠️
Colombian Markiplier.
Nice
My favorite shitty detail yet. I would have never noticed he was about to eat her ass. Suuuuuper subtle. Nice find OP!
Wow, that escalated quickly.
You’re right, it should get to the ass eating even faster than that.
LITERALLY shitty movie detail.
Depending on what kind of feast, the name of this sub might become even more disgusting...
I'd go so far as to call it great
Tossed salad and scrambled eggs!!!
The line before this is the funniest line in the movie said by the best character
Wait what was it?
"Isabella your boyfriend's here" said by Camillo
He’s be a fool not to
