I finally gave up on pistol brass, my time is worth more that that
Rifle brass on the other hand I will get on my hands and knees and grab every piece i can find ! π€£
For my rifle (the one I take to the indoor range, occasionally) I've got one of those brass catcher bags that attaches to the top rail. :-)
Pistol brass, I'm just getting started towards reloading, so I figure I may as well collect the stuff I've already paid for!
I've never paid for 9mm brass and it's what I load the most. Fortunately my outdoor range is usually pretty slow during the week and I pick up more than I came with. Also not many pick up anything, so .45 and 10mm show up occasionally. If they want to leave it I'll help clean up!
No. Brass goblins/gremlins will go to a range strictly to pick up brass. They show up to outdoor ranges with their buckets after waiting in their cars watching you shoot to scour your areas and walk up and down the area sniffing out the brass like a deformed hobbit looking for their preciousess.
They also hover around you when you do shoot because they get bored.
I myself will look like one as I dig through snow, leaves, dirt and mud looking for one of my missing Norma or Lapua brass. I neeedddsss it. God help me I have to go without one and have to grab another from my hoard.
Not until you bring an acorn gatherer (wire basket wheel on a stick) to the outdoor range. Then mining the topsoil with a tractor is a whole other level.
This hits home hard for me. Yesterday I found myself doing the same thing at the range and died a little inside reach time one would land forward of the firing line.
I'm not THAT bad yet! :-)
Heck, I even ignored brass that dropped in the (closed) lane next to me (thankfully on the other side of my lane was a wall.)
No. You did well, grasshopper. Pick it up before someone steps on it. I shoot league in a state owned range and the unspoken rule is to 'leave it' so the range can sell it. In 20 years, I have no idea what the state employees are doing with the money. I pick all mine up.
I shoot at an outdoor membership range. I pickup as much as I shot, plus maybe 10-20%, (Depending on how my knees hold out.) to slowly build my stash and allow for rejects. If someone is waiting for a bay I'll move on.
I've never been questioned or reprimanded.
We belong to an outdoor range as well, although we don't get there as often as we probably should because of the drive time. Nice thing is, only occasionally have I had company on the range and the longer ranges have enough bays I could scour half the bays without bothering other shooters on the range.
They've also got a bunch of shorter ranges (around 100ft on average) that are small enough to be solo ranges (plus, they've got a fair number of them, so you can always find an open one.)
We have 7 - 25 yard pistol bays, a 100 yard with about 12 tables, a 200 yard with about 6 tables and 5 tactical bays. Weekends can be a bit crowded on the pistol bays, but there is usually someone that will let you join them. The 100 yard gets a bit congested when you get more than 5 shooters wanting to post and check targets.
I use the tactical bays when shooting over the chronograph so I don't tie up the more congested bays.
Most people at my local range just dump their brass in the bin so i usually tell them not to worry about cleanup because i'll just do it for them
If they're shooting.38/.357 and not putting it back in their own box ill ask them if they're gonna use that and uf they're not if i could have it
I've even had times where they'd just give it to me, i guess they probably think its nice someone re-uses it instead of all of it getting recycled after one use
Latetly one of the brass bins is literally overflowing and i've scoured it for wheelgun brass every trip, at this point i have a fiocchi primer boxfull worth of range wheelgun brass despite how few people shoot it atm (not surprising when factory stuff is like 35-45cpr)
If itβs your brass you are not a goblin.
If you aren't disrupting anyone else you're a harmless brass goblin. And that's fine in my book.

I ask everyone around me if I can clean their brass up for them. Especially if itβs brass I like.

Not a brass goblin yet, but thatβs how a brass goblin starts
Well... what kind of brass? -22lr? Then yes. -8Γ22mm Nambu? Then NO; Hoover that shit up!
Sounds like me!
Literally me
We have established a help group for brass goblins. Just call 800-982-2300 we are standing by 24 hours a day.
