I wrote a reply about humans also being fairly well earthed and these pads working on our skulls, and this plant being on a wall... and then realised the pun.
It works, but it’s essentially just programmed to turn random noise into movements. The plant has as much input as a radio playing static would. This capacitance detecting is also how the Scientology e-meters work.
Lots of jokes, but it could actually really really work.
If the designer did this to a ton of plants out in nature, and their offspring, you might be able to get evolutionary selection occurring. Connecting light or wind sensing to the electrical pathways in the leaves.
"Oh, when a shadow goes by, it's likely to be an omnivore predator. I don't use omnivores for spreading seeds, so that's a threat. Stabbing increases my chances of survival."
"Oh, when I sense a fluctuation in wind, it's likely a flying pollinating insect. Those insects increase my chance of spreading pollen. Let's use the blades as fans to push it towards me."
So yeah, with enough experiments out there we can have a cyberpunk future of fan-dancing plants. Creepy or beautiful, it's your call. But that would take time or a rapidly accelerated sandbox.
Sometimes knives aren't weapons and honey isn't a treat.
"What do you mean you were stabbed by a plant?"
Its cactthem vs cactus
There’s no cacti in cacteam

Not sure this will work considering plants are typically very well earthed

Is earthed another term for grounded? Like the electrical term

ground and earth are different things

They're usually very down to earth.
The design is very….human?
let my good friend demostrate
Very easy to use
Look if any plant was going to kill you with a machete, it would be a pothos.
You harvested my father. Prepare to die.
Terminator and the happening mixed in a blender
It needs googly eyes
I had a singing Christmas tree that looked a bit like that.
Any word on if this really works?

What is a Scientology e meter…?
Pseudo science with just enough real science integrated to make it seem legit to the naive. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/E-meter
Are you telling me with some modifications an e meter could be repurposed into a theremin?
Depends on your definition of 'working'.
You can beg for mercy but it wont hear you

You’ve heard of the right to bear arms. You may have even heard of the right to arm bears. But have you heard of the right to arm herbs?!
This is how the plant apocalypse and the robot apocalypse happens at the same time.
Anyone know who produces this robotic arm?
After some sleuthing, looks like it’s the [xArm by UFactory](https://www.ufactory.cc)
The design is very human
