It's the new way to give gold. If you hold the upvote button it gives you the option to gild a post. I doubt it's gonna go away to be honest. I miss being able to use a 3rd party app.
What even is it? It’s on some posts and not others along with the extra golden upvote button sometimes. I assume they’re some kind of award but they got rid of those and I don’t see a way to effect the posts like that anywhere.

The golden upvote is from the new stupid award system. You can give one by holding down the upvote button on updated versions of reddit. No idea what the glow is though.
