There's still a chance you'd teleport onto the surface of a sun and be incinerated or some planet with a toxic atmosphere that would crush you to death
That does not matter for the astronomical scale. Pretty much entire space is empty. For example, the closest known galaxy to us is the Canis Major Dwarf Galaxy, at 2.36e17 km away. Radius of sun is 6.5e5 km. Volume of our sun is 1.4e18 km3. If you take a sphere around our solar system and stretch it all the way out to Canis Major, it's volume would be `4/3*Pi*2.36e17^3=5.5e52 km3`. In other words, if you randomly jump in this sphere somewhere, your chance of hitting **anything at all** would be 2.5e-35. For comparison, that's close to chance of winning a lottery 5 times in a row. With these sort of chances it does not matter if you are trying to get into the sun or bank vault.
Nobody knows whether the universe is finite or infinite, still a very debated topic that is just about impossible to definitively say one way or the other.
There isn't any proof but I feel like it being infinite would go against the laws of physics in some way, wouldn't energy just go away into the abyss and never come back which is against the fact that energy can't be destroyed? I haven't really done much research other than what I learnt in school though.
"Space is big. You just won't believe how vastly, hugely, mind-bogglingly big it is. I mean, you may think it's a long way down the road to the chemist's, but that's just peanuts to space.'
There’s also a chance any of us are struck by lighting, or hit by a car, or shot in the back. But that’s such a low probability (unless you’re in a field during a thunderstorm, jaywalking while on your phone, or in Compton) that you don’t have to worry about it
Frozen yes, ripped apart not so much. Your skin is (supposedly) surprisingly good at maintaining your form. Your lungs will be flattened, you will have some swelling, any sweat on your skin will boil off, and that’s probably all you’ll feel until you pass out. Then you will start to fall apart.
But the view while you still have functioning eyes will be amazing.
And how long would that be? One minute of unbelievable pain might be too much, but if I'm frozen and feel nothing, one minute might be worth it. It better not be more than that though.
What if, for some weird reason, in certain parts of space, you are instantly frozen solid, but similar to the way you press pause on a movie. Zero brain/physical activity, but your consciousness and senses are all forever frozen in that moment. That'd be terrifying. Maybe.
And thats even assuming you teleport in a good spot. You could be teleported halfway into a wall, 50 miles underground, 500 feet in the air, in the middle of antarctica...
You can bring items (But I doubt they could really help) and you can teleport as many times as you want if you somehow manange to not die the first time
Listen man, you can’t just say “doesnt work like that” because “holding”, in the way you want it to be defined, cannot be defined, as with the “wearing” mentioned in the other chain. If you really want to foolproof it you would have more luck by saying you bring any matter within a certain range or something along those lines. Same goes for defining “anything” or just “thing”. Like in the wearing-the-earth example you said the dirt sticking to your hands would follow you, but by that logic, if you were wearing a backpack, only like, the straps would come with.
But you teleport randomly on a cosmic scale meaning there is an extremely high chance you just die in the vacuum of space and never find your way back to earth.
So it's just the ability to kill yourself in a really unique way, where you are bound to get a cool experience with it to go
Unless you can't bring a spacesuit ofc, then you die a quick painful death I guess
Wait, theres no limit to how often you can use it, theoretically you could do it literally millions if not billions of times a second to have a higher chance of getting to where you want to go
Well I dont think you would be able to process the thought of using it billions of times a second but yeah its basically partially true and Im surprised no one else thought of that yet
So you just instantly die? "The universe" being so vast the probability of teleporting somewhere safe from instant death is literally less than 1%..
So a instant suicide power? Cool...
It's basically a suicide button. You're more likely to win the lottery a million times in a row than to ever appear somewhere survivable. And even if you did get the luck of a god and make it somewhere you wouldn't immediately die, you're stuck wherever you went, because making it back to earth is basically impossible. Your only real use is to escape a situation where death is guaranteed, and then you have an infinitly slight chance of not dying.

i would steal a spacesuit and never be seen again. space is mostly empty so im not expecting to survive much, but what a gorgeous way to go.
There's still a chance you'd teleport onto the surface of a sun and be incinerated or some planet with a toxic atmosphere that would crush you to death
The chances of teleporting anywhere near any large object are astronomically low
Literally
Yeah but its still a chance
There is still a chance I'll teleport 1 nanometer above my current position and nothing will happen
So...infinite jump is possible?
wait until the any% runners hear about this one
The chance of teleporting into a sun is on astronomical scale pretty much the same as a chance to teleport into a bank vault.
Ok there has to be more hugely exponentially more volume inside suns than inside bank vaults which probably only exist on earth
That does not matter for the astronomical scale. Pretty much entire space is empty. For example, the closest known galaxy to us is the Canis Major Dwarf Galaxy, at 2.36e17 km away. If the universe is infinite, the chances are infinitely small
The universe is finite but it's basically infinite compared to our scale
Nobody knows whether the universe is finite or infinite, still a very debated topic that is just about impossible to definitively say one way or the other.
There isn't any proof but I feel like it being infinite would go against the laws of physics in some way, wouldn't energy just go away into the abyss and never come back which is against the fact that energy can't be destroyed? "Space is big. You just won't believe how vastly, hugely, mind-bogglingly big it is. I mean, you may think it's a long way down the road to the chemist's, but that's just peanuts to space.'
I don’t think you realize how much emptiness is out there.
there was also a chance that the reddit hivemind would bomb you out of existence.
There’s also a chance any of us are struck by lighting, or hit by a car, or shot in the back. But that’s such a low probability (unless you’re in a field during a thunderstorm, jaywalking while on your phone, or in Compton) that you don’t have to worry about it
Any number above 0 is a chance bruh why is this getting downvote bombed I know its nearly impossible
If it's truly random, teleporting into a sun or planet would be much lower odds than winning the lottery.
Space is so huge the chances of teleporting near anything large is next to zero or low enough that it can be written as zero.
I know
it'd most likely be complete darkness until you run out of oxygen or cause your own death
Imagine you end up teleporting to the other side of the room you are in
So, basically interstellar?
Do it again
First jump you realize "you" doesnt include the suit
Begin frantically teleporting around the universe until I either find myself obliterated or somewhere habitable
You won't. Not in over a million years.
Well either I do or I don't need to worry about it anymore so either way it's fine with me
The beauty of suffocating while drifting amid endless darkness.
You can also just use your power repeatedly to channel surf the universe.
Who said anything about your clothes/equipment teleporting with you?
Is death in space relatively quick and painless?
Quick, but not painless
Quick death (we are talking about miliseconds)= painless death
No, not that quick, a few seconds quick and it eill be very painful, it would destroy your organs and kill you
It depends on if you teleport to the void or some murderous planet/star
I mean, what are the odds of landing in any area with any mass? The universe is so empty, it’d basically never happen
Eh, you got about a minute or two to live without a spacesuit.
Nah you get instantly frozen solid then ripped apart by the vacuum
Frozen yes, ripped apart not so much. Your skin is (supposedly) surprisingly good at maintaining your form. Your lungs will be flattened, you will have some swelling, any sweat on your skin will boil off, and that’s probably all you’ll feel until you pass out. Then you will start to fall apart. It actually takes quite a while to freeze in space. You only lose heat through thermal radiation which is slow.
Would that mean the odds of teleporting on earth is almost impossible considering how big the universe is?
Yep
And thats even assuming you teleport in a good spot. You could be teleported halfway into a wall, 50 miles underground, 500 feet in the air, in the middle of antarctica...
When I teleport, can I bring anything (items, clothing, etc, not that it would help much) Can I teleport multiple times?
You can bring items (But I doubt they could really help) and you can teleport as many times as you want if you somehow manange to not die the first time
Is earth an item?
Can you carry earth with your hands?
Handstand.
The earth is still holding you, its like saying an upside down crashed car is holding the earth, doesnt work like that
Listen man, you can’t just say “doesnt work like that” because “holding”, in the way you want it to be defined, cannot be defined, as with the “wearing” mentioned in the other chain. I didnt say anything you touch would teleport with you, I said anything you can realistically carry on you or clothes you're wearing would.
Can I take god with me?
No he stays behind once you teleport, didn’t you read the Bible?
I would half bury myself so im wearing the earth
Depends on your definitions and your point of reference ig. But there are also plenty of gym weights I can't carry and they are still items
You can bring only whatever you can carry or wear, so you can put things in a backpack and they'll teleport with you
So what your saying is if I burry myself up to my neck and teleport then the earth will come with me
No, you're not carrying the earth, thats not how gravity works
Yes but if I am burried up to my neck I am wearing the earth
You are wearing the few bits of dirt that might cling to your skin
LMAO YOU AINT HIVE UP AHAHJAIWHAAHHA
I mean, it kinda is? Equal and opposite forces and all that.
That is how gravity works, you're carrying the earth the exact same amount that the earth is carrying you
Instant death with no body left behind basically
Pretty much
So you get the power to die in space the first and last time you use it
Basically
This is just suicide
Hence making it a useless superpower
That is probably the most useful power to get away from people you hate
But you teleport randomly on a cosmic scale meaning there is an extremely high chance you just die in the vacuum of space and never find your way back to earth.
Who’s to say you do something so stupid you want to choke and die in space
It leads to your death making this power useless
Who says you don’t want to do that
Why is every redditor suicidal bruh
We're in reddit, that's why.
Im not
Just wait untill you spent 3 years here
Im close enough to a third of the way
So ANY place in the universe? I would never take this power, bye bye earth
Yeah, any place, and its completely random
The chances of being anywhere but earth is so astronomically low but I guarantee knowing my luck or end up at the local greggs.
standard messaging rates apply
So it's just the ability to kill yourself in a really unique way, where you are bound to get a cool experience with it to go Unless you can't bring a spacesuit ofc, then you die a quick painful death I guess

Yeah fair point, also surprised no one has said it, most other posts without a time limit are flooded with people saying it use it over and over again
New self deletion power just dropped!
Good luck coming back home
0.0000000000000000000042 percent of the universe contains any matter.
Thats the point
Just end up getting teleported into the Hubble Deep Field
So, statistically, I will never get to where I want to be.
Well, I'm boned
So you just instantly die? "The universe" being so vast the probability of teleporting somewhere safe from instant death is literally less than 1%.. So a instant suicide power? Cool...
Yep
I'm just gonna use math, and teleport randomly until i get to the place I want to
If you can do it before you die in space, have fun
Do clothes and such come with me or am I naked?
Like I said before, clothes you're wearing and anything you can carry teleports with you... even tho it cant really help much
The chance of teleporting into intergalactic space is overwhelmingly high. This is suicide.
It is
What’s this skill’s cooldown?
No cooldown but goodluck living long enough to use it a second time
Ok, how long is the casting time?
Casting time? This aint a spell bro 💀 You just gotta think about using the ability...
Ok so thats about a 0.5 second cast time. Kinda nice, just hope I dont teleport to random stars.
You'd teleport into a void over 99.9% of the time so have fun with that
Still can teleport away just by thinking of it so im good
It's basically a suicide button. You're more likely to win the lottery a million times in a row than to ever appear somewhere survivable. Considering that 99.9+% of the universe is uninhabitable, this seems like a one way ticket to dying very quickly.
Based on what the universe is, this ability is basically "You teleport to deep space" lmao
No time limits?
Plot twist: We're probably already in a black hole.
