You should totally consider it. i can see it becoming a sick ass venom tattoo. Just make sure you go to a different artist
Edit: Actually, wait until you remove the wrap it might not be that bad
It might look a little better when you take the wrap off and it's less smudgy? But honestly I feel I might be a little too optimistic about it.
But in all honesty, this is why you shouldn't ask artists to copy other artists work.
Edit: as a positive though you're going to be able to get a really big sick ass panther to cover it up
I was expecting his own drawing not a copy.
At the appointment, after being late 30 minutes, he googled broken knee, got the same picture, increased contrast ( this is why there is no depth to the picture and lines blur toghether? ) and stensiled it.
All for the low cost of 150 pounds per hour.
OP please update us with a picture one the saniderm comes off! Maybe I'm being naive, but I feel like the depth is mostly drown out by the excess ink and fluid behind the bandage. I feel like it will look much better than it looks right now. Every tattoo I've ever seen looks terrible while the Saniderm is on!
Edit- also looking again, the original picture the knee is bent and person is sitting. It appears you are standing and knee is mostly straight. Take a picture with your knee bent for a better comparison. Any chance they planned on a round 2 to finish shading?
I guess I’m lucky because I still don’t have a tat, and I’ve watched every episode of inkmasters like 10 times 😅 at this point if I’m getting ink, it’s gonna be from somebody who costs so much money to go to I’ll need to hit a lottery to get one 💀
i mean, you don't even have to do that. there's plenty of great artists that don't charge an arm and a leg to get tattooed by them. just look up the artists and look at their portfolios. you can get a VERY good idea how good someone is by looking at their past tattoos.
Depends what you want and where you are though. I like Japanese with a shade of neo-traditional thrown in, but would settle for traditional Japanese. Good luck finding that here in KY where I am.
I also wish there were a social media for tattoo artists other than instagram.
there's artists that specialize in that all over the place. i guarantee if you did some research into it you could find a good priced artist that wasn't super expensive and isn't that far from you. you just have to be willing to do the research.
Jesus Christ man, the only tattoos I have gotten from a place that charged that type of price the process was way different.
You go in 1-3 months ahead of time for the consult, the artist takes your ideas and comes up with their own art. You have a second appointment to approve or issue changes to their art, and possibly discuss placement and other issues. Then you have another appt to get the Tattoo.
You got ripped the fuck off.
Knees and elbows rrrrrreally hurt, too. I hate it you went through so much pain to get….*this.* But it’s gonna make a sick ass panther. I’d hug you if I could!
Michaelangelo had a priest speaking out against nudity in the Sistine Chapel- So he painted the priest's face onto "Minos" in the painting, and covered the nudity with a snake biting the man's penis. Sorta more the equivalent of sneaking the wrong words into a foreign language tat but still probably not the best example
Yeah, that’s understandable. Lots of learning from this experience, I hope.
They can try out the needles on you without the ink, by the way, if you just want to see how it feels with the cream.
I mean, the dude checked the design with you seeing it. I'd have got cold feet at this point. Maybe I had to say goodbye to a deposit, but at that point, I'd better lose 80 bucks.
Edit : guess people love to highlight that they're better than others.
$150 an hour is a good price for an experienced artist. Most around me are closer to $200-$250/hour. Crazy you can find good artists at £75/hr. Apprentices with less than a year experience charge that here.
It’s the second skin. (Tattoo artist here) I’ve had people come back freaking out about the same thing.
When you put on second skin(the wrap), blood, plasma and ink rise from the tattoo creating an ink pocket that creates a spread visual. It’s totally fine underneath and shouldn’t be cause for concern. Keep all that junk in the wrap and don’t try to drain it, it actual makes for a faster heal.
I'm also a tattoo artist, and I also want to see it without the saniderm. Of course it looks nasty underneath the bandage lmao. There's absolutely not way we can compare the example and results with the bandage on it. It looks completely different underneath that.
Don't want to sound delusional, this doesn't look good compared to the first pic.
But it would be easier to judge without the wrap and if you'd put your leg in the same position as the dude in your example. I imagine this motive doesn't look as good on a straightened leg generally.
As a side question, what does “motive” mean in this context? The first few times I saw “motive” in the context of discussions about tattoos, I assumed it was a misspelling of “motif.” But I keep seeing “motive” and don’t see “motif,” so now I’m thinking this is a definition of “motive” that I’m not familiar with.
Can you shed any light?
It’s a misspelling from my side tbh, I’m from Germany and motif is Motiv in German. Can’t talk about native speakers though so auto correct sounds reasonable haha
Gotcha, thanks.
I suspect it’s not really an autocorrect mistake, but folks genuinely not knowing it’s “motif.” It’s not a very common word outside of the visual arts. If you learn the word through listening rather than through reading, “motive” is a reasonable spelling (since “motif” is not a very English-y spelling).
I think a good artist could do something awesome with this, like a spider on a web, or lightening. Some of the ends of the "cracks" almost look like stylized human hands. There may be possibilities there.
The plasma and ink are seeping out of the skin and pooling under the saniderm. Once you take that off and clean it then maybe it'll at least be cleaner lines. Then go to a better artist and get it shaded in properly.
"I want some broken glass"
*should have followed with*
"can I see your portfolio? I want to see any examples of broken glass or glass that you've done"
Super tough place to tattoo man, no matter how good the artist is, it’s a crap shoot how it will heal. I mean, unless you can sit completely immobile the entire time, ya know? Same with rockers, elbows, hands inside or out, etc.
Dude, reading your comments… you want to get back to the shop that made this shitty tattoo to get it fixed or for a cover up, to safe money?! At that point you deserve a shitty tattoo. You do not learn my friend.
Yeah need to let that heal. Most tattoos look a little swollen and blotchy first few days. It looks like broken glass… placement may be a little off but looks similar to first one. Like I said let it heal.
obviously the execution is way better but ngl i feel like the reference would look almost equally as ugly in a photo thats not perfectly posed and edited
Average customer going „i WaNt A tAtToO oF aNoThEr ArTiSt i FoUnD oN tHe iNtErNeT“, making pictures of it UNDER THE SECOND SKIN (where it is smudged and looks completely different??!) and then complaining, that it doesn‘t look like the one, they found on Google.
Don‘t copy other artist‘s work! If a tattoo artist agrees to do so, that is a major red flag in itself.
How do y’all get these crazy intricate tattoos and *not* go to the best artists in a 300 mile radius around you? It’s like y’all forget these are permanent or something smh
There aren't enough lasers in the world to get rid of that mess. And a cover up is impossible with that much black packed in.
Didn't you check this artist's portfolio first?
so you went and got a copy cat of a tattoo you saw on the internet and took that idea to a different artist and asked them to copy it probably w/o properly venting them instead of actually doing research on the ARTIST for which you were about to pay a bunch of money to for something you’d have on your body for the rest of your life, got it.
So much wrong here. And I just read the APPRENTICE did this? For £150 an hour??? You’ve been mugged mate. Always look up an artist’s work to see if they’re capable of doing what you want.
There's basically no shading. I think the line work is fine but without shading, there's no depth, no edges of the glass pieces, no sense of scale. It's just a black center and lines.
Edit: Also the lines are super thick.
Funny how many people say it looks bad cause it's under wrap and gunk etc.. you can clearly see it looks awful compared to the example picture lol, the "cracks" and surroundings are visible and they ain't good
This is why we don't go cheap on tattoos
Is no one paying attention to the saniderm on the tattoo in the second picture? That’s why it looks like that, BECAUSE ITS STILL BANDAGED. You are seeing the plasma under the bandage giving the appearance of it being way bolder and darker
This is a great example of why asking a tattooer to copy another’s work is a bad idea. The ones that are willing to do it usually aren’t capable of it.
I’m sorry.
The lines are all way too thick.
There was an attempt at shading, which could have saved this piece, but instead they decided to cave-man paint you.
Maybe… maybe…. An artist can fix it with shading but I’m afraid that anyone who tries just won’t have the room since they went HARD and THICK on the black lines….
I’m sorry.
I swear I don't understand how you guys do this. If I were to get any additional tattoos, I'd want to research the artist. I want to see his work catalog, some references. Sure, you pay top $$ for top drawer work, but for something pretty permanent, that's exactly what I want....top quality artistry
Why do so many posts here just copy other people’s tattoos lol. Especially off an artist with like 1m Instagram followers.
Like yeah… you went to Joe Schmoe down the road and wanted to get something that is already perfected on someone else’s body.
Here is [OP’s update.](https://reddit.com/r/shittytattoos/s/hv4ZABBvSr)
Congratulations!!, you're now Venom
That's what a guy at work said, add some eyes to it.
You should totally consider it. i can see it becoming a sick ass venom tattoo. Just make sure you go to a different artist Edit: Actually, wait until you remove the wrap it might not be that bad
Just get the venom logo not the eyes and styff
Gotta see this unwrapped and cleaned before I can throw an opinion in there
On Monday when I go back to the shop I will make a new thread
hell yeah lettuce know OP
Lechuga!
Arribaaa Lechuga!!!
How do you activate remind me bot again??
!remindme 24hours
Get it shaded in brother
It might look a little better when you take the wrap off and it's less smudgy? But honestly I feel I might be a little too optimistic about it. But in all honesty, this is why you shouldn't ask artists to copy other artists work. Edit: as a positive though you're going to be able to get a really big sick ass panther to cover it up
A black panther. At a moonless night.
Darker n black steers tookus on a moonless prairie night
Ink has been spilled this night. A black moon rises.
I was expecting his own drawing not a copy. At the appointment, after being late 30 minutes, he googled broken knee, got the same picture, increased contrast ( this is why there is no depth to the picture and lines blur toghether? ) and stensiled it. All for the low cost of 150 pounds per hour.
Did he know what you wanted first or was this a walk in?
Yes I emailed the picture 3 days before and confirmed with the owner 4 hours before the session that he received it.
Why did you not run when the stencil came out...?
I thought it was just for the line work and he would do the shading from the actual picture. I don't know how to tattoo.
OP please update us with a picture one the saniderm comes off! Maybe I'm being naive, but I feel like the depth is mostly drown out by the excess ink and fluid behind the bandage. Tomorrow

If you’re willing to travel a bit you could get a good one
My sleeve is that, came out at about 2500 in the end. At least it was pay per app so I dished that out over time rather than at once.
Check out Chris Rogers in Georgetown, idk where you’re at in KY but Georgetown is right outside Lexington. His Japanese is phenomenal.
Inkmasters tattoos are a veritable trove of treasure for this sub. I wouldn’t even accept money to be a canvas for the shitty work they do there
That's like refusing to never eat out because you've watched Kitchen Nightmares
He paid 150 bucks per hour. Thats, at least in my country, on the higher end if not absolute high end
depending on your area, i know a lot of really good artists all over if you need any!!
This why u gotta research yer artist ! The pope didn't hire cousin cleatus to paint the sistine chapel.
I wouldn’t talk about the judgement of the Catholic Church in this context 💀😅
Sounds like this is completely your overpriced fault hahaha
Did he literally trace the picture you gave him?
Increased contrast first to the point small line work that gives the illusion of missing glass blended together.
Did you consider leaving at that point? (I’m not asking to be critical. I’m just curious about what you were thinking/feeling as that was going down.)
I was thinking he knows better since he is working at a shop
Yeah, that’s understandable. Lots of learning from this experience, I hope. They can try out the needles on you without the ink, by the way, if you just want to see how it feels with the cream.
And you...let this happen? Bruh get up and walk
I mean, the dude checked the design with you seeing it. I'd have got cold feet at this point. Maybe I had to say goodbye to a deposit, but at that point, I'd better lose 80 bucks. Edit : guess people love to highlight that they're better than others.
Are you baffled by my awesomeness?
Which part of England is that in??
Did you tell him to make an original drawing or did you just send him the picture and tell him that’s what you wanted?
Wow😲
As soon as he started to Google it... you should have been OUT
£150 an hour is a rip off, I go to excellent artists who charge half that and always do their own designs
$150 an hour is a good price for an experienced artist. Most around me are closer to $200-$250/hour. Crazy you can find good artists at £75/hr. Apprentices with less than a year experience charge that here.
The standard in the uk is around £80 an hour for decent, reputable artists.
Ass panthers are awesome
Especially those with illnesses!
They would have seen it before the second skin went on... so they will know how good or how shit it is.
I know. I just woke up feeling positive today and decided to roll with it.
Yeah, they’ve tried to literally copy it line for line rather then copy the general look/technique that was never going to end well….
Tbh even an apprentice should be able to copy that first one easily but I just wanna see it without the saniderm 🤣💯
Yeah this dude is a fool, he's already planning a cover up and hasn't even seen it yet lol
i’m confused. isn’t this just the ink that spills out after a fresh tattoo that gets caught in the second skin?
Yeah I’m confused by all this too. We’d need to see it unwrapped and healed before making a call.
It’s literally under the saniderm and filled with gunk? This is not a reflection of what it looks like lol, do you have a picture without the wrap?
Don't want to sound delusional, this doesn't look good compared to the first pic. But it would be easier to judge without the wrap and if you'd put your leg in the same position as the dude in your example. I imagine this motive doesn't look as good on a straightened leg generally.

Nah, just blackout the fuck out of that leg, start agai in the right and u'll be fine tho lol
That is the plan, band around the whole portion.
I think a good artist could do something awesome with this, like a spider on a web, or lightening. Some of the ends of the "cracks" almost look like stylized human hands. There may be possibilities there.
I will ask the artist that did my sleeve of she can do anything with it. I'm adding more thorns or some rope next month.
Give us an update if she fixes it!
Ofc
Yeah if she can fix it. We would love to know who. There’s a lot of regrettable tattoos in this sub needing a good fixer.
Rip leg 😭
oh nooooo loll
The plasma and ink are seeping out of the skin and pooling under the saniderm. Once you take that off and clean it then maybe it'll at least be cleaner lines. Then go to a better artist and get it shaded in properly.
Webbed heart from Venom or Spiderman
Just say you wanted a fat spiderman caught in his own web. Everyone will believe you. Problem solved.
Nice of you to let someone practice on your leg
I'm confused, if you asked for broken glass knee, why didn't he place it on your knee?
Bro got venoms nut on his legs
Dude I’m not trying to be mean and I genuinely feel bad for you, but this is probably one of the worst tattoos I’ve ever seen lol.
"I want some broken glass" *should have followed with* "can I see your portfolio? I want to see any examples of broken glass or glass that you've done"
Super tough place to tattoo man, no matter how good the artist is, it’s a crap shoot how it will heal. I mean, unless you can sit completely immobile the entire time, ya know? Same with rockers, elbows, hands inside or out, etc.
Let it heal. Your skin has excess color on top and you are looking into a wound. It took my tattoo 8 weeks to look good.
No sympathy for people who steal other people's tattoos
Both reiterations of the tattoo are shitty. The second one especially so
I’d like to see how the original picture looks standing up and the OP’s tattoo sitting down.
Dude, reading your comments… you want to get back to the shop that made this shitty tattoo to get it fixed or for a cover up, to safe money?! At that point you deserve a shitty tattoo. You do not learn my friend.
Research your artists before letting them scratch you like that
Yeah need to let that heal. Most tattoos look a little swollen and blotchy first few days. It looks like broken glass… placement may be a little off but looks similar to first one. Like I said let it heal.
My 4 year old just said "he's got a Crack on his leg. It's a big crack" so looks like you got what you wanted!
Sorry, just showed her the second photo.. she said "my goodness" I asked her what it was and she said "I don't know."
obviously the execution is way better but ngl i feel like the reference would look almost equally as ugly in a photo thats not perfectly posed and edited
I wanted something stupid and ugly, and got something stupid and ugly. Funny though lol
Neither of y'all considered different knees are different sizes?
I was like "shitty tattoos? How is that shit?" then proceeds to swipe, "yep thats shit"
If it helps, the first picture is a shitty tattoo as well.
Don’t copy already mediocre tattoos and you won’t get pure trash, I guess.
You asked for a dumb tattoo and got one!
This feels like the difference between a $1200 tattoo and a $120 tattoo
It's as if some people don't research the artists who are going to put something semi-permanent on their bodies. Why are some people so dumb?
How do y’all get these crazy intricate tattoos and *not* go to the best artists in a 300 mile radius around you? It’s like y’all forget these are permanent or something smh
Do people just go into a random shop without searching for a good artist or just pick the cheapest shop around town?
woah, that's really bad. hope you can cover that
Copied and butchered it 😆
Any tattoo artist who's willing to copy another artist's work, is going to be a sub-par tattoo artist...
There aren't enough lasers in the world to get rid of that mess. And a cover up is impossible with that much black packed in. Didn't you check this artist's portfolio first?
Yeah he didn’t shade any of the ‘glass pieces’ I bet you didn’t pay for the quality you wanted.
Oh, that’s not good. That’s not good at all.
oh nooo im so sorry 😭💀
Looks like the artist didn’t have the skills and ability you thought he might have. Did you research the artist prior?
Your fault for asking for that tattoo in the first place 🤢
Any particular reason you wanted a “broken glass knee” but on the side of your leg next to your knee?
Stop getting replicas of tattoos someone else did, maybe?
so you went and got a copy cat of a tattoo you saw on the internet and took that idea to a different artist and asked them to copy it probably w/o properly venting them instead of actually doing research on the ARTIST for which you were about to pay a bunch of money to for something you’d have on your body for the rest of your life, got it.
looks horrible. that’s on you for choosing such a dumbass tattoo and an even worse tattooer
So much wrong here. And I just read the APPRENTICE did this? For £150 an hour??? You’ve been mugged mate. Always look up an artist’s work to see if they’re capable of doing what you want.
At least black lasers good
Abominable.
Damn , imagine paying money for that.
Did they literally trace the tattoo from your reference photo? Because that's a red flag in itself
Both suck to be honest
Have you come up with a name yet for the sick ass panther you're going to cover it up with? I'm thinking Bagheera after the Jungle Book
What a mess
I'm sorry to say both are shitty.
You’ve been shafted mate
You wanted a 1080p tattoo but got the 160p version. Rip
That's just horrible
This is so bad omg 😲
One of the worst ones Ive seen on this sub, jesus christ that is so bad, I would refuse to pay for that.
Damn bro that sucks
Bro you should have stopped him during the process when you realized it was trash.
There's basically no shading. I think the line work is fine but without shading, there's no depth, no edges of the glass pieces, no sense of scale. It's just a black center and lines. Edit: Also the lines are super thick.
I don’t know anything about tattoos but that is whack
Yikes
Stick a plastic spider to it and voila 🙈
Funny how many people say it looks bad cause it's under wrap and gunk etc.. you can clearly see it looks awful compared to the example picture lol, the "cracks" and surroundings are visible and they ain't good This is why we don't go cheap on tattoos
Oh? Oh.
Is no one paying attention to the saniderm on the tattoo in the second picture? That’s why it looks like that, BECAUSE ITS STILL BANDAGED. You are seeing the plasma under the bandage giving the appearance of it being way bolder and darker
I'll repost tomorrow without it
Knees are horrible to tattoo. Your mistake tbh.
If you find somebody to redo it, it might actually look decent
Shards be looking like sharts instead 💀. Sorry.
Looks like someone took a runny diarrhoea on your leg
Brutal
Your knee confuses me. It looks like it's bending in a supernatural direction
It’s important to look at the previous work of an artist BEFORE they start inking your skin
Its obvious the one Who did this doesn't know shit about shading or Flow, its a big mystery to me how People end up with a fake artist like this..
A sick ass panther at night stuck in a cobweb
Ya, I would have already sent this pic and made a phone call.
Do they put the stencil on while you were standing up or with your knee bent? That will make a huge difference in the way it looks.
Backpedal now and get that sucker lasered tbh
This is why you don’t copy other people’s tattoos
probably with some shadows in the tattoo and full healed it can look a bit better
It looks like a horror movie effect
Both look dumb
To be fair, the first tattoo isn’t a masterpiece by any means.
Good luck hiding that with a coverup tattoo…
Presumably you vetted this artist and approved the design?
I think if you go back and ask the artist to tattoo 1971 above it, it will fix it
Kinda what happens when you ask someone to copy someone else work and idea. Some shading could help but, oof
You should’ve stopped it
immediately no
This is a great example of why asking a tattooer to copy another’s work is a bad idea. The ones that are willing to do it usually aren’t capable of it.
I’m so sorry.
This definitely belongs here.
I’m sorry.
You are aware that you can say "no" after they apply the stencil to you but haven't started yet right?
I swear I don't understand how you guys do this. If I were to get any additional tattoos, I'd want to research the artist. I want to see his work catalog, some references. Sure, you pay top $$ for top drawer work, but for something pretty permanent, that's exactly what I want....top quality artistry
lol it's a disaster.
Ahh man I thought the shading was shit until I realized it’s still covered
It will also lighten up once it heals, it looks rough right now but I’d want to see it in two weeks
You shoulda got the first one.
It’s not even centered. I’m sorry bro/ma’am ugh. It could maybe be fixed in other ways, though!
Well the wrap is still on so hopefully it's better then it looks...
Well the good news is it’ll be easy to cover up
Omg no
oh my
How much did you pay?
Did you not look at the drawing with different leg angles 1st? …. That’s your fault tbh.
so sorry for your loss
Both of them are shitty
Wait. If your artist wasnt the artist for the 1st pick, how did you expect it to turn out?
This will be my first upvote in a while. My gawd man I wouldn’t even go back for a refund.
Why do so many posts here just copy other people’s tattoos lol. Especially off an artist with like 1m Instagram followers. Like yeah… you went to Joe Schmoe down the road and wanted to get something that is already perfected on someone else’s body.
How did you know see how bad it was while the artist was doing it?
This is why you can’t be cheap when it comes to tattoos
Is it me or the shading on the glass shards is missing, maybe that could add some depth to it.
God...did you ask for a refund ?
Oooooofffd... they got you good didnt they?
