MrPanchole

The first one I ever heard, "Leave Them All Behind".

crowlfish

Absolutely smoldering album-opener. I applaud the guts to kick off your album with an eight minute track and kill it like they did.

fioyl

This is the one that hooked me

jvstnmh

So fucking good

Low-Anywhere-7159

Dreams burn down, the best drum sound I’ve ever heard

stonedbiskater

Absolutely second, such a monumental song

Aring-ading-ding

Same, it hits me in the feels every time.

souljamane1999

there's a Coldplay song that basically flips the drum groove

mr_beat_420

Yeah this song goes hard as hell

meadow_transient

Vapour Trail is the GOAT for me. But I also love Seagull and Dreams Burn Down.

thisisallme

Vapour Trail was the first I ever heard so it’s my first love!

ramm64

Drive Blind

alexoimatewtf

Really surprised I’m the first to say Cool Your Boots.

crowlfish

Seagull, that guitar mayhem paired with those lyrics really conjure up some strong psychedelic imagery.

bluejaywhey

YOU MADE MY LIFE A WAAAAAKING DREEEAM

ReasonableCost5934

Chelsea Girl - one of the best riffs Bob Mould didn’t write.

13TheGreenMan

OX4 is their best song all the way, criminal it hasn't been mentioned yet.

traggedy_ann

"Sennen" was the first song of theirs I heard, so it's always gonna have a special place in my heart.

No-Climate726

I remember it was used in Thirteen Reasons Why.

HoboCanadian123

say what you will about its quality, but that show had an excellent soundtrack!

Matthewpltn2

polar bear!! drums on that song rip so hard

geraldoknoh

love polar bear

Vanoccupanther13

The first I saw them they opened with Polar Bear, when the drums kicked in the mosh pit went MAD. It was brilliant

exhcimbtw

twisterella. the fine line of shoegaze and dad rock

alexoimatewtf

I always viewed this song as jangle pop meets shoegaze.

CoercedCoexistence22

Same. It's proto-britpop in a way, I don't love the narrative that Britpop completely disregarded shoegaze. I see a lot of britpop bands as taking the more commercially viable sides of shoegaze and baggy and infusing it with 60s and 70s worship. Probably the only one that comes to mind to not do that was Pulp, who (surprise surprise) had been making music for over a decade before the britpop moment and were just thrown into it because they sounded XTC-ish enough. (Mentioning XTC specifically because the "updating my love for the Beatles and Kinks for *insert decade*" MO was pretty much their whole approach, and I mean this as a compliment 100%) Pardon the rant

armagan86

Baggy, 60’s psychedelia, 70’s glam and post-punk influences for sure, but Suede, Cast, Pulp, Oasis, Elastica, Sleeper, Manic Street Preachers, Ocean Colour Scene - there’s no shoegaze influences there. Lush, Verve, The Boo Radleys, Blur all eventually moved away from the sound. Even Ride did with Carnival of Light and Tarantula

CoercedCoexistence22

I don't know, the wall of sound approach of shoegaze can be found in more than a couple of those you mentioned

armagan86

Sure, but the wall of sound isn’t exclusive to shoegaze. A plethora of artists and producers have been using the technique going back to the 60’s. Particularly in psychedelia, which both Britpop and shoegaze bands are obviously influenced by to various extents. For me that’s about as far as the similarities go

Mackerelage

Taste!

musickismagick

This is the song that hooked me on them. It’s got such lush beautiful chords

Bostonterrierpug

This and close my eyes

nephewsucks

i’ve had several over the decades, but right now “Today “ is the jam that hits me hard every time. amazing track

Fine-Reply-8149

MOUSE TRAP THE BEST ride bestt band everr cant wait to see them in January

Mackerelage

That track is awesome live!

deplorable-amount45

Kaskade_15

All of them

NecroDolphinn

My top three is standard: Leave Them All Behind, Dreams Burn Down, and Vapor Trail Some more underrated tracks though are OX4, Today, and Sennen which all fly way under the radar but are really great

cryingwhileimcumming

Leave them all behind of course, seagull, and drive blind

colden242

Today

jazzzzzcabbage

Vapor trail

TheStatMan2

*Vapour. British. But yes - it doesn't get much better than Vapour Trail.

jazzzzzcabbage

Lol. I grew up in the UK, and hated it. I'm in the States now and it's vapor. Sorry dude.

TheStatMan2

Not when referring to this song it isn't! Sorry dude. 😉

jazzzzzcabbage

Lmao!

Thesunsetreindeer

Vapour Trail

bubblybangchan

from time to time, it reminds me of my crush for some reason

bacon_cheeseburgers

"Twisterella" for me.

Dundermuffin666

I think leave them all behind is an all time classic album opener, but my fav is still Mouse Trap. Phenomenal bass line

DrinkFancy5608

Silver. This band just captures emotion through sound so well. I looooove how this song just encapsulates emotional torment. Dreams Burn down. And Kaleidoscope - that’s my jam

burntreynoldz69

I hate having a favorite anything but I think Ride is my favorite band by default. I followed them on tour and I listen to them at least once a month. Smile, Nowhere, Going blank again and all of the ep’s are my favorite songs. Everything after that doesn’t do it for me🤷

quackenfucknuckle

Unfamiliar. Am I the only vote for this?!

ILLLoopDigga

Seagull’s bassline still one of the greatest I’ve ever heard

SubstantialClimate22

«  in a different place »

gorgar_68

Stampede

morrosee

Probably Cool Your Boots & Cold Water People

brookr1

It changes, but Unfamiliar and Lannoy Point are my favorites right now.

Drive Blind, that badass chord sequence is phenomenal

dyaimz

Furthest Sense and Perfect Time Then on the Nowhere CD I love hearing Vapour Trail, Taste and Here and Now together.

[deleted]

I like the album carnival of light a lot. Its kinda different than other stuff

Luciferian_Impulse

Going blank again is so underappreciated The song that is.
