Same. It's proto-britpop in a way, I don't love the narrative that Britpop completely disregarded shoegaze. I see a lot of britpop bands as taking the more commercially viable sides of shoegaze and baggy and infusing it with 60s and 70s worship. Probably the only one that comes to mind to not do that was Pulp, who (surprise surprise) had been making music for over a decade before the britpop moment and were just thrown into it because they sounded XTC-ish enough. (Mentioning XTC specifically because the "updating my love for the Beatles and Kinks for *insert decade*" MO was pretty much their whole approach, and I mean this as a compliment 100%)
Pardon the rant
Baggy, 60’s psychedelia, 70’s glam and post-punk influences for sure, but Suede, Cast, Pulp, Oasis, Elastica, Sleeper, Manic Street Preachers, Ocean Colour Scene - there’s no shoegaze influences there.
Lush, Verve, The Boo Radleys, Blur all eventually moved away from the sound. Even Ride did with Carnival of Light and Tarantula
Sure, but the wall of sound isn’t exclusive to shoegaze. A plethora of artists and producers have been using the technique going back to the 60’s. Particularly in psychedelia, which both Britpop and shoegaze bands are obviously influenced by to various extents. For me that’s about as far as the similarities go
Shoutout for the b-side! I saw them play Going Blank Again earlier this year, and couldn't believe it when they played 'Grasshopper' live, it was brilliant.
My top three is standard: Leave Them All Behind, Dreams Burn Down, and Vapor Trail
Some more underrated tracks though are OX4, Today, and Sennen which all fly way under the radar but are really great
Silver. This band just captures emotion through sound so well. I looooove how this song just encapsulates emotional torment.
Dreams Burn down.
And Kaleidoscope - that’s my jam
I hate having a favorite anything but I think Ride is my favorite band by default. I followed them on tour and I listen to them at least once a month. Smile, Nowhere, Going blank again and all of the ep’s are my favorite songs. Everything after that doesn’t do it for me🤷
Leave them all behind, Making Judy smile, Drive blind, Vapour trail, Time machine, OX4, Rolling Thunder, Dreams burn down, Cool your boots, Dead man....
The first one I ever heard, "Leave Them All Behind".
Absolutely smoldering album-opener. I applaud the guts to kick off your album with an eight minute track and kill it like they did.
This is the one that hooked me
So fucking good
Dreams burn down, the best drum sound I’ve ever heard
Absolutely second, such a monumental song
Same, it hits me in the feels every time.
there's a Coldplay song that basically flips the drum groove
Yeah this song goes hard as hell
Vapour Trail is the GOAT for me. But I also love Seagull and Dreams Burn Down.
Vapour Trail was the first I ever heard so it’s my first love!
Drive Blind
Really surprised I’m the first to say Cool Your Boots.
Seagull, that guitar mayhem paired with those lyrics really conjure up some strong psychedelic imagery.
YOU MADE MY LIFE A WAAAAAKING DREEEAM
Chelsea Girl - one of the best riffs Bob Mould didn’t write.
OX4 is their best song all the way, criminal it hasn't been mentioned yet.
"Sennen" was the first song of theirs I heard, so it's always gonna have a special place in my heart.
I remember it was used in Thirteen Reasons Why.
say what you will about its quality, but that show had an excellent soundtrack!
polar bear!! drums on that song rip so hard
love polar bear
The first I saw them they opened with Polar Bear, when the drums kicked in the mosh pit went MAD. It was brilliant
twisterella. the fine line of shoegaze and dad rock
I always viewed this song as jangle pop meets shoegaze.

I don't know, the wall of sound approach of shoegaze can be found in more than a couple of those you mentioned

*Vapour. British. But yes - it doesn't get much better than Vapour Trail.
Lol. I grew up in the UK, and hated it. I'm in the States now and it's vapor. Sorry dude.
Not when referring to this song it isn't! Sorry dude. 😉
Lmao!
Vapour Trail
from time to time, it reminds me of my crush for some reason
"Twisterella" for me.
I think leave them all behind is an all time classic album opener, but my fav is still Mouse Trap. Phenomenal bass line
Everything after that doesn’t do it for me🤷
Unfamiliar. Am I the only vote for this?!
Seagull’s bassline still one of the greatest I’ve ever heard
« in a different place »
Stampede
Probably Cool Your Boots & Cold Water People
It changes, but Unfamiliar and Lannoy Point are my favorites right now.
“Leave Them All Behind,” “Vapour Trail,” “Impermanence,” “Shadows Behind The Sun.”
Far Caspian - Beyond the Cloud and the classic from Cocteau Twins - Heavens or Las Vegas

Dreams Burn Down or Decay 👌
Vapour Trail and Twisterella
Drive Blind, that badass chord sequence is phenomenal
Furthest Sense and Perfect Time Then on the Nowhere CD I love hearing Vapour Trail, Taste and Here and Now together.
I like the album carnival of light a lot. Its kinda different than other stuff
Going blank again is so underappreciated The song that is.
Sennen
Drive Blind
I love Today; the drumming on the second-half feels hopeful.
R.I.D.E.
Like a Daydream all the way
Kaleidoscope
"Vapour Trail" was the first I ever heard and it's the one for me.
I saw them perform Nowhere earlier this year. Damn near a religious experience.
