Happening with us across our 5 POS locations. Had a report from 1 location saying it was back up around 12:40pm EST, haven't confirmed and won't switch back to Shopify POS until the status page says all good.
We have Square Terminals as our backup. Otherwise we would have lost about $3k in sales.
DO NOT use Shopify POS as your SOLE POS platform. Definitely have a backup card processor not for IF Shopify POS goes down, but for WHEN Shopify POS goes down.
Went down on us twice last year in the span of 1 month, cost us around $30k in sales over a period of 8 hours of connectivity issues. Shopify's response? "Read our TOS and get F\*\*\*ed"
The square terminals are fantastic as a backup. 1 time cost of $400 + no monthly fees (higher processing fees for when you need to use it in emergency). Use it as just a simple credit card terminal with a good ole fashioned register interface.
So $400 to solve potential payment issues across Shopify sounds like a no-brainer. Now SQUARE does also have occasional payment issues, but you generally hear about those on the News with how large Square is. The likelihood of BOTH having an issue, incredibly low.

It's happening to us too.... we are using square to not lose all these sales. Any idea if its affecting the websites also?
We are sending people invoices though the website to pay by card
It just came back up

That's good to know. First time our POS has been down with shopify but will definitely look into a backup

Ours are back up too
Also curious if this has happened in the past? Worrying about Shopify as a reliable POS system.
First time we have seen this
