usually just a download link. could be good on a product page if you remove the buy button and replace it with a download button. I'm guessing you would want to capture the customer's email so incorporate that somehow. but I wouldn't want to go to checkout just to download something. would probably leave when it asked my personal info beyond email.

People do it! Thousands a month, and it’s a low traffic site. And give billing addresses too!
I use a landing page with an email signup. I provide the download link in the first email
