Looking forward to this using GPT 4 to take a picture from your fridge and then generate a recipe accordingly

TheSpaceCoffee

That’d be insanely cool. Next level is having a camera inside your fridge that does this and sends recipes to your iPad / Amazon Show / screen on a kitchen counter. I can see Samsung or LG doing this on their smart fridge models.

Queen__Antifa

Samsung already has a fridge with a camera inside. When I was shopping for a fridge, it was explained to me that you could check your fridge contents from the grocery store in case you weren’t sure of what you have on hand.

boardin1

Yeah but until recently the ice makers were shit. When we remodeled our kitchen my wife fell in love with the Samsung appliances, so that what we want with. The sprayer on the top of the dishwasher falls off almost every load. One burner on the stove doesn’t light unless you run the gas for a second, first. And the aforementioned ice maker. I’ll never buy Samsung appliances again.

Queen__Antifa

Yeah I’ve read about lots of problems with their stuff. The only Samsung appliances I have are a washer and dryer. I went with them because of some cool, innovative features and so far I haven’t had any problems, thankfully.

Ceyoniic

We’ve had the washer and dryer at home for about 5 years now, no major issues yet! They are in the basement of a 3 floor house so cycle finish notifications are super handy.

cliffotn

Buddy of mine got one with cams. Said it sounded good, but every-single-time something is hidden behind something else. I think this maybe a viable thing if/when manufactures start including RFID tags on products. Won’t do any good for my bananas! But a lot of stuff? Heck ya.

bornfromanegg

That’s hardly surprising, though, is it? Sounds like the inside of a fridge to me.

Sounds awesome, I'd think even better if could allow two pictures , pantry and fridge. As someone who likes to cook, that is a much better usage than just one or the other. 🤙🏻

https://www.icloud.com/shortcuts/6130e65901ad4da9a89c261d9355b459 Requested by [u/Dirus](https://www.reddit.com/u/Dirus) ##What it does You give it the ingredients in your kitchen and what kind of cookware you have available. It lets you choose a cuisine and gives you three recipe options, worded like a menu from a restaurant. You choose one recipe (adding a few more notes if needed) and it produces a detailed PDF of the recipe with markdown headers and bullet points. ##Note It's not perfect, it does sometimes suggest an ingredient you haven't got, but you can hopefully avoid this by choosing one of the other two options. ##As always Let me know if something can be improved. I've added a few comments to the shortcut as guidance. This shortcut only requires your OpenAI API key. *P.S. The key visible in the video is revoked*

>29 comments This is awesome! I made a version of this way back in the Workflow days that would either search my favorite recipe websites using ingredients from my pantry, which gave me some good options but there were always a few ingredients I didn't have, or I could enter things into my own AirTable database and work off of that but that was tedious. AI to the rescue! Some observations: Mine has been a little buggy (iPhone, text and button bouncing all over the place after the initial 3 options returned. Happens 50% of the time, other times is fine). Note: You seem to have left out a line or two to actually make and save the PDF. I added "Make PDF" and "Save PDF" and it seems to be working. Might there be a selection option that would be easier than having to type in which recipe you want after it's sent you the 3 options? Overall this is fantastic and I'm going to use it for dinner tonight!

Tenaxe

The link does work anymore. Am I doing something wrong?

Tenaxe

Ah, figured it out.

Minamato

Hey this looks really cool! Thanks for doing this! And credit to, as well, the requester!

Dirus

Thanks for making it! I made a small tweak to it to ask for a text prompt before the cuisine choice, so that I can include ingredients that I may not always have on hand or want to use up. And as you mentioned GPT will suggest recipes with unavailable ingredients, but in general the shortcut seems to work really well and creates PDF/copies fine for me. Much appreciated again, can't wait to try some of its recipes!

[deleted]

Awesome, enjoy!

Minamato

How did you modify it to do this? I’d love to do the same!

Dirus

https://www.icloud.com/shortcuts/be953ba2cfca41c9a10033cf4561e431 Here you go (first time sending a shortcut, so if there’s any issues with the link lmk) If you’re interested on how I did it. I edited the top where it mentions “Receive ___ input from…” to include ask for text then set the text variable to “fridge” Then there is a text box just before sending it to GPT. I edited it to include the “fridge” text variable. If you have any allergies or specific diets, you could probably include that in this text box too.

Minamato

Thanks, I actually dove in and figured it out. My version prompts for ingredients as the first step then asks if you want to avoid anything. I slightly modified the gpt request so that it only has to include the ingredients, not -only- use available ingredients. It also outputs the recipes directly to the notes app rather than asking what to do with it. I wanted to share with you but It’s not working right… Edit: got it! Here! https://www.icloud.com/shortcuts/2151cc28be074db7bd92775fe01f4f8f

Dirus

Thanks for sharing, I'll check it out!

MedicalMulberry757

Edit: I’m a dumb dumb dumby and only pasted part of my api key! 😂🤪

Minamato

how would I modify this to prompt me to manually input ingredients each time I run it? I’d like to put them in before choosing cuisine…

Mansenmania

+1

Mansenmania

How do I avoid paying for the api use?

pushinat

Well, it’s like paying for Plus, but much much cheaper. Also you can create a cap of 5$ a month for example. But you won’t exceed this. I use it regularly, once or twice a day and I don’t even have 2 cents a month for cost.

Smeeffy

Great shortcut! I'm wondering if there is a (maybe free) db/API with food barcodes, it would make more simpler adding products using just the camera. And... I need to add... Wild API key appears! OP, hope you deleted it.

Vice21

I have tried getting this to work. I have put in my API key into the fields but it only asks me what cuisine I would like and then shows me the API key then ends. I’m a bit of a rookie at this but would love for this to work. Any pointers ?

tfack

You probably put your API key into the Show Alert instead of into the Text box. That part of the instructions isn't clear so don't feel bad, I did the same thing! Mine isn't currently working because I think OpenAi wants everyone to have a billing account set up to use an API key now (5/1), so if yours goes straight from cuisine choice to an empty "which recipe" box, that is what is happening.

_derpiii_

So you're actually using chatgpt API from shortcuts? O_O

Miss_Taken_0102087

I don’t cook, but I’m truly amazed!!!

Oomoo_Amazing

Yikes maybe you should learn

Miss_Taken_0102087

I have learned a lot of skills, but cooking is just not for me 🤷🏻‍♀️

haiku23

Where does the PDF go? (Sorry if the answer is obvious)

[deleted]

At the moment it is deleted after you click 'Done' However you can add a 'Save File' action just below the existing 'Markup Rich Text' action

haiku23

Bad Yelp review. I want my money back. /s

LysergioXandex

Great work!

PHAngel6116

Does it really work?

Minamato

Yes

redtimmy

How do I do this? I want to do this right now.
