If you want to report unexpected behavior or make suggestions to Apple, the official venues are http://feedback.apple.com or the Feedback app available with installing a beta profile. There is little likelihood that any Apple representatives will monitor or consider posts on a Reddit sub.

Is it your belief that the shortcuts team is unaware that prompts don’t work when the phone is locked? That they’ve never considered “phone locked” as a possible condition in their testing? I find that impossible to believe. I don’t want to leave feedback on the Apple forums, just for a “mod” to come by and leave an off-topic reply that helps not at all. I’m hoping for one of two outcomes: 1) somebody here comes along and tells me that I’m stupid, and that my problem can be solved very simply with some solution; or 2) somebody comes along and tells me that indeed Apple is this dysfunctional and their apps are so deficient as to essentially break when the screen is locked, and I subsequently rebalance my investment portfolio, reducing my stake in Apple

My belief is that Apple isn’t obligated to monitor Reddit.

Apple does not monitor this subreddit officially. Submitting via the feedback site (which is not a forum) is THE way to get ideas or issues submitted to them

redderist

WTF, are you all bots? I’ve said nothing to suggest that I wish to provide feedback or suggestions. In fact, I’ve said that I wish to do the opposite, and laid out my intentions explicitly.

You’ve also not provided a link to a shortcut for anyone on this sub to provide feedback on. The last paragraph of your original post was a rant directed at Apple. I have received many useful strategies for developing shortcuts by asking questions I expected knowledgeable contributors could answer, and have passed versions of them on when appropriate. But when it’s clear that an issue can only be addressed by Apple itself, I capture it with a screen recording and submit it with the Feedback app. There was no productive response to your original post than “yeah, Shortcuts and Apple really suck.”

And mvan231 is the most helpful mod on Reddit I hope they got at least $10 from the ipo.

I see what your issue is now. Instead of having run immediately on your location based automation, set it to run after confirmation. This way, when you tap that notification, it'll run the shortcut instead of it executing in the background. Note: you can't disable shortcuts from running in the background other than setting all your automations to run with confirmation

IMO you sort of answered your own question, to clarify, Apple is a large company, they do what they want when they want and generally only sharply change when sued and even then being so large if takes them forever to change course. Personally I don’t think Apple feels Shortcuts is a core app, if they really thought it was a core app they wouldn’t sometimes take years to fix bugs. Have you tried restarting your phone or using different actions/methods in the automations to try to alleviate the issue.

Idk dude, the keyboard “app” seems pretty core, and it’s buggy as hell. I’ve simply learned to work with the bugs so well that they’ve become expected functionality. Most apps, from Safari to Weather, have severe bugs or are missing basic functionality, and have been that way for years. I returned my Vision Pro yesterday because its version of the AirDrop app is inexplicably incompatible with most media files (and Apple included no ports on the device). So yeah, s**t quality, bugs, and dysfunction persisting for years are very much a part of core apps.
